Assetto Corsa EVO is now out in early access, and fans of the sim racer are looking towards the future to see what other offerings developer Kunos Simulazioni have on tap for the title in 2025. One of the most eye-catching things to be found on the Assetto Corsa EVO roadmap is the inclusion of an open world component.
Scheduled for release at some point over the summer, the open world map in Assetto Corsa EVO will be modeled after 1,600 square kilometers of the Eifel region of Germany, which surrounds the famous Nürburgring race track. It’s unknown how much of this area will be available for free-roaming at the start, however, as Kunos Simulazioni states that the open world mode will be “released in stages, along with new features and content.”
Known for its Nordschleife configuration that served as the primary venue for the Formula 1 German Grand Prix from 1951 until 1976, the Nürburgring gained a dangerous reputation and was dubbed by F1 legend Jackie Stewart as the “Green Hell.” Despite being a long and treacherous drive — particularly in inclement weather — the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife configuration became a fan favorite and has gained legendary status among racing enthusiasts even five decades after its last bout of F1 action. So its inclusion here is likely to satisfy virtual racers.
Additionally, the open world area in Assetto Corsa EVO will contain points of interest that players can check out for themselves. “Players will have the unique opportunity to interact with local businesses, rent cars, and upgrade vehicles with aftermarket parts,” the press release states. This implies a level of freedom that isn’t typical of sim racers.
Assetto Corsa EVO has also invited local business and brand owners to be a part of the open world expansion. This can be achieved by submitting an inquiry via the website. “If you run a car rental company, an auto parts store, or any other business, you could see your brand featured in the game,” the announcement says.
