All Pitching Attributes in MLB The Show 26, Explained

The nitty-gritty!

Pitching is one of, if not the most, important jobs in the game. A good pitcher can really make or break your match, regardless of the team you’re facing. Hitting and fielding are also important attributes to have, but they pale in comparison to the impact the pitcher has on the outcome. Now, MLB The Show 26 has various pitching attributes for different game modes. Diamond Dynasty, Road to the Show, and Franchise mode all feature various pitching attributes.

Today, I’ll be going over all those pitching attributes, explaining what each one does and why it’s important. You might be thinking you could simply read the subtexts under them, but with all of them in abbreviations, it’s much harder than it looks. This should make things easy and help you get a handle on which pitching attributes you should focus on.

We’ll start with Franchise Mode since it has the highest number of attributes present. In Franchise Mode, you’re using cards for actual players, so the attributes give you the entire story. This is also why the attributes are so detailed; they help in accurately judging how good a player is. Here are all the pitching attributes in MLB The Show 26’s Franchise Mode:

  • STA (Stamina): Linked to your pitcher’s energy. A higher STA allows pitchers to be consistent later on in the game, while pitchers with low STA will tire out, affecting their performance the longer the game goes on.
  • H/9 (Hits per nine innings): This relates to how likely a batter is to miss the pitch or not make contact. Batters up against high H/9 pitchers are less likely to make contact with the ball than against low H/9 pitchers. However, the CON L/R attribute for batters can counteract this stat since their likelihood of making contact increases.
  • K/9 (Strikeouts per nine innings): This one is pretty straightforward. K/9 is the likelihood of pitchers getting strikeouts during the nine innings. Higher K/9 means more strikeouts.
  • BB/9 (Walks per nine innings): BB/9 affects a pitcher’s accuracy. High BB/9 pitchers are more likely to throw the pitch exactly where you placed your indicator. Low BB/9 pitchers will throw it in the general direction, but will lack accuracy.
  • HR/9 (Homeruns per nine innings): Affects the likelihood of batters hitting homeruns against the particular pitcher. Higher HR/9 means it is harder for batters to hit a home run against this pitcher.
  • PCLT (Pitching Clutch): Influences the pitcher’s ability to clutch runs when the batting side has runners on second or third base. Higher PCLT means they have a better chance of getting out of that situation (through strikeout or otherwise).
  • CTRL (Control): CTRL is similar to BB/9 as it affects a pitcher’s accuracy. A higher CTRL means the pitcher has more control over his pitch and can accurately throw where he wants to.
  • VEL (Velocity): VEL has to do with a pitcher’s top speed while pitching. Faster pitchers will have higher VEL stats. Take note that this does not influence a player’s throwing speed. This also depends on different types of pitches and which pitch the player prefers.
  • BRK (Break): Influences the pitcher’s overall break on pitchers that have a curve to them.
  • FLD (Fielding): Determines the player’s fielding capability, including catching, running, throwing, etc.
  • ARM (Arm Strength): Determines how far and how fast the player can throw the ball.
  • ACC (Arm Accuracy): Determines how accurately the player can throw the ball.
  • REAC (Reaction Time): Determines how quickly the player can react and decide which base to throw it to.

These were all the pitching attributes in Franchise Mode. Although you might be thinking how you’re supposed to remember them, especially if we still have Diamond Dynasty and Road to the Show left. Don’t worry about those, because most of these stats are repeated over there. You can always refer back here to see what they mean, since I will only explain any new pitching attributes.

Pitching Attributes In Diamond Dynasty

Diamond Dynasty is a similar game mode where players must unlock cards through packs or programs and utilize those cards to form a team. Fortunately, Diamond Dynasty has fewer pitching attributes compared to Franchise Mode, and no new ones. Here are all the pitching attributes in MLB The Show 26’s Diamond Dynasty:

  • STA: Stamina
  • H/9: Hits per nine innings
  • BB/9: Walks per nine innings
  • CTRL: Control
  • PCLT: Pitching Clutch
  • VEL: Velocity
  • BRK: Break

To understand what these stats do, you can refer to the previous section where I explained all of these pitching stats, and more. All of these stats combined will determine your pitcher’s pitching ability. The lower these stats are, the worse they’ll pitch.

Pitching Attributes In Road To The Show

The final game mode is Road to the Show. Road to the Show is unique since here, you create and control a single player. You can manipulate which stats to increase and which you’d prefer ignoring for the time being. These stats also dictate the type of pitcher you’ll be as well as your playstyle, so pick wisely. Here are all the pitching stats for MLB The Show 26’s Road to the Show:

  • H/9: Hits per nine innings
  • HR/9: Homeruns per nine innings
  • K/9: Strikeouts per nine innings
  • BB/9: Walks per nine innings
  • PCLT: Pitching Clutch
  • STA: Stamina
  • ACC: Arm Accuracy
  • ARM: Arm Strength
  • Fielding
  • Reaction
  • Durability

As you can see, these are all the same stats that were included in Franchise Mode, so you don’t really need to go out of your way to learn these. But remember, unlike Franchise Mode, you get to choose which pitching attributes you want to upgrade in Road to the Show.

Having a higher H/9 will result in fewer hits connected, but may lead to the occasional homerun. Similarly, sacrificing STA for ARM or ACC will result in your pitcher throwing slower balls as the game progresses, which is why STA is not something you should compromise on.

Figure out a good mix of attributes that balance each other out while covering your weak spots to get the perfect pitch. This will ensure you don’t give up too many runs and are also able to shine in certain areas.
