Xbox Finally Adds Option to Disable Quick Resume on a Per-Game Basis

While the Xbox Project Helix is reported to release in late 2027 or early 2028, Microsoft is still working on updates for the Xbox Series X|S consoles. Recently, Xbox has announced a major update for its latest consoles that fixes a recurring issue with the Quick Resume feature.

While Quick Resume allows you to jump back into games from where you left off, it doesn’t particularly bode well with certain titles. Many users find that when they launch certain titles with Quick Resume, random crashes are frequent.

The issue seems particularly frustrating in online games, as it affects titles as old as FIFA 23. While Quick Resume isn’t necessarily perfect across all games, Xbox is now giving you the option to disable the feature on a per-game basis. Here’s how it works according to the Xbox website:

“You can find this option by opening the More options menu on a game tile in the Quick Resume Group and selecting the Manage Quick Resume option, or by going to any game tile and selecting Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings.”

The feature was initially only available to Xbox Insiders, but it’s now rolling out to the general public.

Quick Resume Is Still Great For Single-player Games

Xbox users will now get a toggle to enable or disable quick resume on a per-game basis. Based on what the reports we’ve seen so far, you’re better off disabling it for games like FC 26, NBA 2K26, and even shooters like Battlefield 6. By disabling Quick Resume, every time you turn off your console or put it in standby mode, the game in question will now close properly. You can just jump back into a match from the main menu and avoid any crashes.

With that said, it’s still worth noting that Quick Resume works well for offline or single-player games. For example, if you’re playing Hollow Knight: Silksong, Quick Resume will allow you to continue straight from the spot you left off. The feature doesn’t just apply to one game either, as you can leave multiple games in a suspended state and use Quick Resume to continue playing. Still, it’s good that people who primarily play online multiplayer games won’t have to deal with crashes anymore.
