  1. Been a long time since I've really gotten into a wrestling video game, but I will likely give WWE 2k22 a try. MyGM is intriguing and I must say the NWO edition is tempting.
Plus getting a PS5 recently has me revisiting games that I hadn't messed with in quite some time (NBA 2k22 being most recent)
A lot of this stuff looks pretty cool. It definitely has my interest.
I still can't bring myself to pull the trigger on a pre-order but I keep feeling like this will be something I get in the not so far future.
I dont know if or when I'll get a PS5, but features like that definitely make me want to get it.
I'll see what the rest of the game is like in terms of gameplay, bugs, and other features, once it releases, but if MyGM could be a mode that you could have so much fun with, even with a fully custom roster (aka downloading dozens of AEW CAWs on the servers, and adding current talent to the outdated 2k22 roster) then I'll definitely be playing it so much.
I assume they won’t let us create our own brand for this. But I’m hoping WCW and ECW are options. Cautiously optimistic for this.

I’m hoping they will have more than the 4 GM choices they have already shown. How can you have Bischoff and Paul E in the game and not have them as GM options? At least we can use created characters.

You might be able to do a workaround by creating a wrestler from cloning Bischoff or Paul E and going that route.

Ringside report really shined a bright light on this mode!

Yes it did. For once I have no clue what I’m going to do first when I boot this up.

    This looks so fun.
My only question is, do we actually have to start in a high school gym? I don't think I'd like having Roman vs Brock main eventing in a grungy gym.

That's why you've gotta book the mime!
Took a screengrab from the Ringside Report, and it shows 3 venues unlocked at this point and 3 more unlock at 5, 9, and 11 weeks. Being that it's Week 2 in this pic, I'm guessing we start with the three small venues for a few weeks and we're not stuck with only the gym.
Looks like the three small arenas are the high school gym, that nightclub from 2K20 (?), and the last NXT CWC.
I saw online this is limited to 12,20 and 50 weeks or something like that…. Can’t be right surely? Smack down hotel said it’s 50 weeks max… this will make it feel like a demo mode.

Yeah, I feel like you should be able to have career or open option. Career makes you work from the bottom up whereas open would be more of a sandbox mode.
I cautiously optimistic about this whole game.
If they are making us start at the bottom, in grungy gyms, then in my opinion we shouldn't be able to draft big name superstars right off the bat. Having Lesner vs Reigns for the WWE Title at Mufreesboro High School in front of about 300 people is not a good look lol.
So I stumbled across the SmackTalks video breaking down the mode today and I was and still am kind of excited to have GM mode back, but I'm pretty sure I heard him say in the video that the mode always ends at Wrestlemania and that makes me a lot less enthused about things than I was going in.
I imagine like most new modes with 2K Sports the introduction will not be the fully realized version of things and next year will probably expand and improve things, I just need them to make sure you can just continually go with this mode. If it's essentially a year and then you have to start over, that's no good.

That would suck for sure if it's only a year. What is this, 2000? Back when sports games only knew how to do 1 year season modes and that's it?
If the only shows we can do are WWE brands, what is the point of a high school gym? I feel it works having a high school gym if they allow custom brands and you build a promotion from the ground up, etc. The more money you make, the bigger arenas you can get, the more fans, but if it's only a year then we should only be focused on booking RAW, SD or NXT. Kind of puzzling MyGm is only a year while NBA2K allows you to play up to 80 years worth of NBA seasons.
Also just want to say... 2K knew what they were doing with this screenshot

I said the same thing and got roasted in the comments of the video. lol
It is pretty weird, I don't like it, but hopefully it won't take long to unlock real arenas.
I am still pretty excited about this mode. But not sure why you can only go 50 weeks. It could be some sort of software or engineering constraint. Or they are just serious about making it a mode where you win or lose.

That would be my guess in general.
For gameplay reasons I could also see them doing just it to add variety or give a fake sense of progression, as superficial as it is. And maybe if these 3 smaller arenas are free or low-cost to book, gives us a few game weeks to get a feel for things and load up the wallet before booking larger arenas.
I don't know. It's one of those weird things that makes no sense at all based on what the mode is (us leading already established WWE shows), but I also don't mind it that much.
Not including WCW and ECW as brands is such a stunning disappointment. I understand maybe not getting custom brands in for year one. But to always be limited to WWE brands and not be able to recreate the Monday Night Wars really sucks.

I agree, that would have been really cool. I kind of expected GM Mode to be a bit bare bones. Not having mid card or tag title in it either is disappointing.
I think I'm willing to give them a pass on omissions for the first year. I'm sure GM mode was a huge undertaking for a first effort. I fully expect them to have all these things and more next year. If not, then I will totally get the disappointment.
This isn't about you, Mercury at all. More about the people in YouTube comments losing their minds because they think literally everything you can imagine in wrestling should be in the mode. A lot of people were mad there is no guest referee mode. I want that too, but wasn't really expecting it this year. One guy said that it has to be one of the easiest things to put in the game. I'm pretty sure if it was easy it would be in. Not saying they shouldn't make the effort. But I think we know as gamers things aren't as always as easy as they might seem.
I was surprised they got this mode in the game this year in the first place considering basically everything is starting over with this series. It's probably not gonna be as in depth as we want, but I'm sure this will be a main focus going forward.
Don't know if anyone has read the write up posted from IGN today but it does seem like there are a lot of limitations for GM Mode.
I loved SVR 06's GM Mode back in the day. SVR 07's added a lot of limitations with storylines are rivalries and it really messed it up imo. This kinda sounds like the same thing. It has me concerned.

Yeah, it looks like there will be a lot of limitations. I understand the disappointment. I am somewhat disappointed myself. But I also understand being the first year of a new mode it's not gonna have everything. Hoping they can patch some stuff in as the cycle progresses.
I think the good thing about this game is there seems to be a lot of modes and seems to be something for everyone. Honestly, if GM mode is too limited for my tastes, I think using the "player lock" feature in Universe can alleviate a lot of that. And may be where I gravitate to.
Also My Rise and My Factions sound like a lot of fun. They really did do a lot this year, so while I'm somewhat disappointed in what appears to be a lack of features in GM mode, I still think there is a lot to be excited for. I'm always a gameplay first guy, and I think it looks very much improved.

The player lock on Universe Mode sounds fun but I feel like it's not really a "new" feature. I mean, you could always theoretically have only played one superstar's matches in the past. I remember doing that exact thing in one of the early iterations of Universe mode.
The gameplay does look good I think. I hope that's good enough to get me to buy it, along with Universe Mode.
SVR 06 had a GM Mode that was new at the time. It was kinda barebones but didn't feel nearly as limited as what this one seems like it could be. I almost feel like every time they've had a GM Mode the more they try to add features the more limited it becomes.
    Sometimes less is more.

Ok, I gotcha. I never spent a lot of time in Universe mode in the previous games. But think I'm gonna try to play it more.
There was a short preview from IGN where the guy said he was very impressed with the gameplay and its basically a huge step up from previous games.
He also said the controls are really good and likes the new way they work. And they aren't as complicated as some might think.
There’s no midcard or tag titles?? I mean I was trying to be realistic and the first year of any mode it’s usually a little bare bones but that’s ridiculous. I consider all the titles on a given show to be the absolute basics.
I like the direction they’re headed in but im afraid im just gonna get bored with the game quickly again.

The limitations to me sounds like one of those "we'll add that feature in a later game so people hyped for this years additions will buy it again when we add a few things".
The limitations are disappointing, but understandable since it’s the first year and I’m sure they wanted to make sure it works as intended with no bugs. I do wish they were clear when they first announced the mode and lead people to believe you could play this online with a friend only to just recently reveal that the game doesn’t have that functionality. I’ll still try this mode out, but will most likely go back to Universe for most of my playtime.

I agree. I know people want everything and want it now. But we have to remember this game is fresh off a reboot and lost their main developer in the middle of 2K20's cycle. It was the right move to take a year off, and people are saying well they took a year off and all modes should be perfect. Not really anyone here, but you guys know the internet.
Fact is, they packed this with a ton of modes and brand new gameplay. That's a huge undertaking. I'm just as disappointed that GM Mode is missing some key features as the next person. But they knew this is what people wanted and tried to give us what was probably their best effort. I'm sure GM mode is a long-term project. This is a good first effort for essentially a whole new series. I even heard people saying they could have just copied GM mode from the old SvR games. That's not really how game development works.
Macho T made a video today giving his hands-on impressions of the game, and he basically said gameplay is great. Said he got used to the controls fast and likes them a lot. So that's good news.
I know patience isn't very common nowadays, including with myself. But just gotta let this mode play out and get better. No doubt this is gonna be a main mode for the game as we progress through the next few years.
Another Youtuber said the gameplay is great. Way better than 19 and 20. So very good news.
I think it sucks for the tag titles the most. I mean, why even bother booking tag matches? Pretend I guess. It's wrestling. We all suspended our disbelief anyway.
No online multiplayer in this mode is a big miss. Online competition is something which could have made up for the apparent limitations.
I think there's enough in this new mode for me to at least try it if I pick this game up though.
There’s a screenshot going around showing William Regal as a choice for GM. I’m not sure if he was in and they took him out when he was released or that they just didn’t want to have him in marketing materials since he’s no longer in the company.
