Wilt Chamberlain has long been part of sports folklore due to claims he made in his 1991 autobiography suggesting he had sexual relationships with 20,000 women over his lifetime. Beyond NBA legacy and records, that claim became one of the most widely repeated anecdotes tied to his public image. While the figure has been frequently referenced, it has also remained unverified and largely based on Chamberlain’s own account.
Regardless, whether it’s true or not, somebody claims that they have broken that record. According to BroBible and The Shadow League, former professional wrestler Ric Flair has made similar public claims about his own personal life. He claims to have surpassed Chamberlain’s reported total at 39 years old. He acknowledged that there were some nuances to how he achieved the feat, but what mattered in the end was the result.
The host asked Flair then and there, and he responded frankly. “I blew by [Wilt Chamberlain] when I was 39,” he said. “I want to make it clear to you: they weren’t all 10s. There were a couple of heavyweights along the way, but it was in a small town. I don’t remember their names. I don’t want them to remember mine.”
Flair Has Made A Wild Claim
The origin of Chamberlain’s figure traces back to his 1991 autobiography, entitled “A View From Above.” The book reflected on his life, career, and opinions on a wide range of topics beyond basketball. There, he wrote, “Yes, that’s correct, twenty thousand different ladies…At my age, that equals out to having sex with 1.2 women a day, every day since I was fifteen years old.”
Meanwhile, Flair’s new statement actually contradicts his initial claim that he slept with just 10,000 women in his lifetime, which he made public in an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary. Despite the doubts, he maintained that it happened.
Flair, however, has expressed regret in starting this wildfire in the first place. “What I said was the truth, but I feel bad now that I said some of it. Ten thousand women. I wish I hadn’t said that because of my grandkids,” he said in an interview with People. “I only love one [woman] now. I have never done anything since I met Wendy.”
Flair, 77, is a Hall of Famer in wrestling, while Chamberlain is an NBA Hall of Famer, with tw championships and four MVPs. He still holds the record for the most points in a single game (100 points), which Luka Doncic believes he cannot do. On the other hand, it’s a mark that Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo has come closer to challenging after dropping 83 points.
