Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill posted a GIF on social media after the team fired head coach Mike McDaniel on Thursday. The GIF showed comedian Kevin Hart looking surprised and saying “Damn!” Hill’s tweet had no words, just the reaction video.
The Dolphins let go of McDaniel after the team finished with a 7-10 record this season. This marks the second year in a row that Miami has had a losing season. McDaniel had been with the team for four years.
According to the NY Post, McDaniel released a statement saying he gave everything for the team. “Coaching this team and being a part of this great franchise has been the honor of a lifetime,” he said. “When I took this job, I had a vision of a team that was bonded together and played with passion and energy on the path to winning championships. I gave everything I had for that goal.”
The team’s struggles made Hill’s future uncertain
Miami had a rough 2025 season overall. In October, the team fired general manager Chris Grier, who had been with the franchise for many years. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa also had to apologize after he publicly criticized his teammates.
Hill only played four games this season. He suffered a serious knee injury during Miami’s 27-21 win against the Jets on September 29, which ended his season early. The injury was described as gruesome. Defending against top receivers has always been a challenge in the NFL, and one NBA star recently shared insights on what makes opponents difficult to guard.
Hill is 32 years old and counts for nearly $51.9 million against the team’s salary cap in 2026. If Miami cuts him after June 1, they would save $36 million. This money could help the team deal with Tagovailoa’s huge contract.
Tagovailoa is guaranteed $54 million in 2026. An additional $3 million of his 2027 salary becomes guaranteed on March 15. Hill signed a three-year deal worth $90 million back in August 2024.
Hill posted several messages on Snapchat this week that suggest he might want to return to the Kansas City Chiefs. He played six seasons with Kansas City from 2016 to 2021 before Miami traded for him. In one Snapchat post, Hill responded to a fan who said they missed seeing him play for Kansas City.
Hill said “We’ll see what happens in the offseason baby.” He also posted photos comparing his Chiefs helmet with a smirking emoji to his Dolphins helmet with a shocked emoji. Meanwhile, in other sports media news, Stephen A. Smith faced wild allegations from Corey Holcomb regarding his personal life.
