There’s drama coming once again from the Buss family. Jeanie Buss fired her brothers from the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this week, and yes, it’s the right time to be laughing at some wealthy people.
Jeanie is the acting governor of the purple and gold basketball franchise and finalized its sale to the Mark Walter-led group. The price for the sale was set at a whopping $10 billion. She would then make her next big move and throw her brothers out the door.
Joey and Jesse Buss were the alternate governor and vice president of research and development, respectively. The two siblings have now resorted to some emotional blackmail to gain some sympathy after losing their jobs. The two wrote a lengthy statement after they were let go and referenced their father, Dr. Jerry Buss, at the end to stick it a bit to their sister.
“At times like this, we wish we could ask our Dad what he would think about it all,” the brothers wrote.
The Buss Brothers Aren’t Getting Sympathy From Anyone
If the Buss Brothers managed to stir a bit of emotion inside of you that might resemble sympathy, you should read on. That’s because even though they’re crying about losing their jobs, the two of them made nearly a billion off the sale. Additionally, they still have a 15% stake ownership stake in the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jeanie Buss is now going to serve as the head of the franchise for five more seasons. For her, firing her two brothers was probably just business. So, even though we don’t see any family dinners happening between the siblings anytime soon, they all should just sit down and enjoy their billions.
In the grand scheme of things, Jeanie might have won, but the reins now belong to Mark Walter. It’s up to him now to shake things up inside the Lakers staff and facility to ensure the franchise’s ongoing success.
The Drama Continues In The Buss Family
So, you’d think this family drama sort of resembles the critically acclaimed HBO show, Succession. Perhaps, you’re looking at Jeanie Buss as Shiv from the show, as a calculated and ruthless businesswoman. However, we don’t want to give their brothers too much credit and compare them to the lead cast.
At the end of the day, all of the family is still filthy rich, and even though the brothers try their best to cry, we’re sure a billion dollars is enough to soften that blow. We’ve got to hand it to Jeanie, though; she certainly knows how to handle business.
