When Undisputed launched, one key element of competing in combat sports that many fans felt was criminally overlooked in its absence was changing weight classes. Throughout boxing history, many of the all-time greats have made their names in the sport by conquering their own weight class, then moving on to take on a new challenge at a new weight, but this was not an option in career mode until recently.
The good news is that a December 2024 patch finally included the option to change classes in your career mode, allowing you to channel your inner Roy Jones Jr. to become a multi-division champion. If you’ve found that challenges in your current class are growing stale, here’s what you need to do to make the switch and introduce a whole new field of challengers.
Changing Weight Classes in Undisputed
Update the Game
Because the ability to change classes is a recent addition, if you are running the original version of the game or an older patch, you will not be able to switch classes in your career mode. Ensure you have the latest update before loading into your career mode to enable weight switching.
Climb the Rankings
If you haven’t reached these heights yet then you need to keep putting in your work in the ring. Once you have won enough bouts to climb higher in the rankings you will have the option to move classes.
In the real world, a weight class switch usually means one of two things. Either a boxer has completely cleared out their division and needs new opponents and challenges, or they have hit a wall and want a new opportunity. For Undisputed, a weight switch is only on the table in the former situation as it requires being a top-40 ranked boxer in your class for you to be eligible.
Go to Your My Boxer Page
If you are in the top 40 and ready to make your move, then head to the My Boxer page in your boxer’s career. Check the lower left of the screen to see which button to press to change classes (square on PlayStation, X on XBox). Press the corresponding button to open the weight class change dialog with your coach.
Select Your New Weight Class
Now that you’re ready to change classes, the big decision to make is which class you move to. With Undisputed, your character has the option to move within one weight class of their starting weight. This means that your choice is whether to move up to the next biggest class or move down a class to face smaller fighters.
Moving up means facing larger, stronger opposition. Bigger opponents can hit harder making it more difficult to withstand the blows coming back in your direction when you enter the ring. This is the more traditional route most successful boxers take when moving classes, leaving their foes behind for the enhanced challenge of facing opponents who have a weight advantage making it harder to lay siege to the division.
Moving down in weight class means you’re in line to face smaller opposition. While smaller boxers are not generally expected to hit quite as hard as their larger opponents, they also tend to move more quickly, a positive trade-off of having less weight to carry. This can provide a unique challenge from the larger, heavier-throwing opponents you’re used to from your original weight class.
Become Undisputed
Congratulations, you have now successfully changed weight classes. In addition to the gameplay changes coming your way in a new weight class and twelve weeks off the schedule to make the move, you’ll also be treated to a look at what your boxer looks like in this new class. Whether you moved down in weight or up, the game provides a visual update to show your bulked-up or slimmed-down boxer.
All that’s left now is start your climb toward the top of a new division. Thanks to the weight class change update you have the chance to claim undisputed gold in both classes by once again working up the rankings and taking on the different belt holders in your class. Enjoy the new challenge and get to work!
