Travis Kelce nearly jars tee shot at Phoenix Open and celebrates with wild guitar move, and the announcer's comment about Taylor Swift was perfect

Playing golf beats watching the Super Bowl.

Travis Kelce nearly made a spectacular tee shot at the WM Phoenix Open pro-am in Scottsdale, Arizona. The three-time Super Bowl champion showed off his golf skills even though he isn’t preparing for the Super Bowl this weekend.

According to People, the 36-year-old shocked the crowd at TPC Scottsdale when he stepped up to the famous par-3 16th hole. He hit his tee shot just a few feet from the hole, coming very close to an ace. After narrowly missing the jar, Kelce received the WM’s gold chain and put it on immediately. He then grabbed his golf putter, pretended it was a guitar, and gave the crowd a wild, rock-star strum.

Kelce is a very serious golfer during the NFL off-season. He’s often seen on courses, keeping his game sharp between seasons. He even competed alongside his brother, Jason Kelce, in the 2025 American Century Championship at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

The announcer made a perfect Taylor Swift reference during the moment

The broadcast commentary made the moment even better. Announcer Eamon Lynch said, “I think Taylor Swift is going to write a song about that one.” The comment was spot on, especially since Kelce and Swift, who is also 36, announced their engagement in August 2025. Sports commentators have been making headlines lately, including a Minnesota Vikings announcer who recently resigned.

Kelce recently showed off his golf skills and acting chops in the sequel to the beloved comedy Happy Gilmore. His co-star, Christopher McDonald, who reprised his iconic role as Shooter McGavin, confirmed that Kelce “got game” on the course.

The film’s director, Kyle Newacheck, said that being a pro athlete actually helped his on-screen presence. Newacheck explained that Kelce’s background means he “knows the moment” and understands how to perform under pressure. Like other athletes who know how to handle social media attention, Kelce understands the value of timing.

Kelce’s appearance at the Arizona tournament comes right before the 2026 Super Bowl, which is the first in four years that won’t involve the Chiefs. The team was eliminated from playoff contention back in December.

Kelce told reporters that he’s going to spend time talking with his family before making a final decision about returning to the field or retiring. “I’ve got so much love for this team, this organization and the people here, so I’ll spend some time with them, go through exit meetings tomorrow and get close to the family and figure things out,” Kelce said.
