Mobile games have developed a pretty bad rep over the last decade or so, and it’s hard to fault anyone who feels less than enthusiastic about them. More often than not, they are money pits that follow the traditional card-game format and often require microtransactions to get the most out of them. But do any games in the sports genre buck this trend?

Tennis games have always been fun for me. Because, at its face, it’s such a simple sport that doesn’t require much. By that same token, it’s a fast-paced sport that requires your maximum attention at all times. And few, if any, games available on mobile devices do it better than Tennis Clash.
An arcade-style game developed by Wildlife Studios, Tennis Clash has gotten positive marks for its gameplay loop, which provides a perfect balance between competitive and simple. And it doesn’t appear to be slowing down either, in terms of popularity.
Rocket League Sideswipe

One of the most prominent sports titles over the last decade, Rocket League is one of the most addictive, honest, and exhilarating experiences in gaming. But, what if I told you that this kind of breakneck, no-frills action title wasn’t just available on PC and consoles, but also on your mobile device?
Rocket League Sideswipe takes the tried and true formula of its base predecessor and puts it into a nifty, efficient 2D package that simplifies the controls and limits movement, but still provides some of the same thrills and highs as the main game. Is it as fun as regular Rocket League? Probably not. But it’s still a solid emulation for mobile devices.
Football Manager 2024 Mobile

Built on over three decades’ worth of research and analysis, the Football Manager series is one of the most in-depth and rewarding management sims in sports gaming. Obviously, the PC version of FM is superior to all of its counterparts, but Football Manager Mobile is an experience worth having if managing a club on the go is of importance to you.
Yes, compared to the main game, FM Mobile is rather stripped down and simplified. But even with a more simplified approach, it still provides players in-depth and immersive control over tactics, recruitment, roster construction, and more. It’s also a nice way to pass time until the next installment of the main series comes out.
Retro Bowl

Retro Bowl is one of those games that brings you back to your childhood. Obviously styled after classics such as Tecmo Bowl — in both name and gameplay — Tecmo Bowl provides an arcade, stripped-down style of gridiron football to mobile users who wish to have a change of pace from more sim-like titles such as Madden or its contemporaries.
As is typical with mobile sports games, many critics consider Tecmo Bowl to be fun, engaging, and addictive, even if it is simpler than other football titles.
EA FC Mobile
Score: 4.7-star average score on iOS
While the EA FC series has been polarizing and somewhat at a crossroads with fans for years, the series’ mobile port — EA FC Mobile — is seemingly way more appreciated. EA FC Mobile offers much of the same as its more popular console and PC-based counterpart does, with some obvious caveats when it comes to visuals and gameplay mechanics.
By most standards, EA FC Mobile looks good, plays well, and features all of the licensing you would expect a modern soccer game to have. Now, it’s not perfect, and some may find it to be a bit inconsistent. But it is still addictive and fun to play, and the user scores state as much.
