'Too easy': Ex-Eagles safety asked if Philly's offense is predictable after dominating win, but what he does instead of answering is perfect

When silence speaks louder than words

Former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson didn’t need words to confirm what everyone already knows about Philadelphia’s offense. It’s way too predictable right now. His response came after the Eagles lost 24-15 to the Chicago Bears on Friday in a game that was a complete beatdown. According to Sports Illustrated, Gardner-Johnson, who played for Philadelphia last season and is known for talking trash, was asked a direct question about his old team’s problems.

On the show Speakeasy with LeSean McCoy and Emmanuel Acho, McCoy asked him if the Eagles’ offense was “too easy” and “too predictable.” Instead of saying yes or no, the Bears defensive back just winked. That tells you everything. When a player who just beat you won’t even deny your scheme is easy to stop, you have a serious problem.

It’s hard to disagree with Gardner-Johnson’s silent response, especially after how badly Chicago beat Philadelphia. The Eagles looked terrible in the loss. They only scored three points in the first half and couldn’t move the ball all game. The Bears ran for over 280 yards, keeping the Philly defense on the field constantly.

The Eagles have all the talent but none of the execution

For Eagles fans, this feels like it keeps happening. The reigning Super Bowl champs have looked awful on offense for about a month now. They’ve won a few games thanks to their defense being talented and clutch. But that only works for so long, and it doesn’t hide how ugly every Philadelphia possession looks. There’s no clear plan or rhythm to what they’re trying to do.

This offensive mess is shocking when you look at the roster. The Eagles have Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. That’s a group of explosive, elite talent. Yet the team ranks 20th or worse in major offensive stats, including total yards per game, passing yards per game, and rushing yards per game. That’s crazy considering they won the Super Bowl last year with a strong offense.

The main problem seems to be predictability. Defenses know exactly what Philadelphia is trying to do, and the Bears proved it perfectly. They were so prepared that they even forced a fumble on the Eagles’ famous “tush push” play, which almost never fails. Chicago fans are riding high after this dominant performance, and they can celebrate with discounted Bears gear to show their support.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo can’t seem to find answers for what opponents are doing. The struggle is so obvious that Richard Sherman said at halftime that Nick Sirianni should want a new offensive coordinator. That’s harsh, but when your talent can’t overcome bad play-calling, you’re in real trouble.

The Eagles are 8-4, which looks respectable. But the season feels like it’s falling apart in Philadelphia. When your opponents are winking at your play calls, you need to make big changes fast. Meanwhile, the Bears are building momentum both on and off the field, with their new Arlington Heights stadium plans giving fans even more to look forward to.
