Timothee Chalamet picked up a ping-pong paddle for a frenetic, chaotic flick from Josh Safdie titled Marty Supreme. The A24 film is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, slated for release on December 25, 2025.
It’s set to be a sports comedy-drama film set in 1950s New York. The film is centered around Chalamet’s lead character, a young ping pong player named Marty Mauser. The run-time for the movie is set at 149 minutes, and many fans are looking forward to seeing Chalamet shine once again on the big screen.
The film also co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, and Kevin O’Leary. The glimpses of the movie focus a lot on Chalamet’s character. They also feature a lot of the signature, gripping, and fast-paced energy we’ve seen from Josh Safdie before, such as in Uncut Gems and Good Time. Reviews for the movie have now started emerging, and some critics have called it ‘the best movie of the year.’
Timothee Chalamet’s Performance Has Been Heavily Praised
Timothee Chalamet has been looking to prove himself as one of the greats of his generation. The 29-year-old actor has been putting on extraordinary performances for quite a while now.
Chalamet was previously nominated for an Oscar for a leading role in his previous movie, A Complete Unknown, where he portrayed Bob Dylan. It seems that he’s aiming for Oscar glory once again with his lead turn in Marty Supreme. As far as the critics who’ve seen the film see it, he might win it this time.
Many critics lauded his acting performance and urged everyone to step into the theatres to see the film. It won’t be an easy task to win the Oscar in 2026 with other lead performances such as Michael B. Jordan in Sinners and Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another. However, Chalamet’s performance in the film makes a great case for him to win it.
The A24 Film Is Loosely Inspired By A Real-life Table Tennis Champion
Josh Safdie has loosely based the A24 film on a real-life American ping pong champion, Marty Reismann. The story goes that Safdie picked up Reismann’s 1974 memoir, The Money Player, and took some inspiration from it for his newest movie.
He then tapped Chalamet to play the character, with the duo mixing their energies in this collaboration. However, it should be noted that it’s a fictional story from Safdie, and it’s not a biopic.
