'The Authorities Had To Come In": John Cena Recalls When Things Got Too Rowdy. And It Landed Them In Hot Water With Police

Things got too out of hand.

John Cena is one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment. The Cenation Leader made a name for himself in the WWE and worked his way to becoming the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). In a career spanning 20+ years in the professional wrestling industry, Cena has seen it all, even if we can’t see him.

The 17-time WWE Champion recently detailed that the Stamford-based wrestling company has landed itself in hot water with the police before. However, the bigger news is that they could be at risk of repeating this incident.

While you’d think the WWE would now be looking to avoid these circumstances, Cena is certainly looking forward to making it happen again. The Heads of State star is set to face off against Logan Paul at the Clash In Paris premium live event and is hoping the crowd in France gets rowdy again.

Why John Cena’s Story Shows How Rowdy WWE Could Get

We’ve lately been seeing WWE hold major events outside the United States to switch things up, and it’s been working. It’s safe to say the international audiences are a completely different ballgame and atmosphere from US crowds.

The fans in France especially know how to make a show memorable. The last time WWE visited the country for Backlash 2024, the Lyon crowd was one of the most insane crowds anyone had ever witnessed. They were so loud and rowdy that they had the building and cameras shaking with excitement.

John Cena is now going to witness the electricity of the fans in France as he gets in the ring against Logan Paul. He recently appeared on Good Morning America and detailed the crowd experience in Lyon for Backlash 2024. He stated that the fans got so loud last time that the police had entered the venue and deemed it a real problem. The Peacemaker actor even wished to be there last time and called it the greatest crowd in WWE history.

“Amazingly enough, I’ve done so much in my WWE career over 23 years. The one thing I haven’t done is set foot in front of what’s been called the greatest crowd in WWE history in Lyon, France… It’s crazy. The last time WWE toured Lyon, the noise was so loud, the authorities had to come in because they thought there was like a problem. There was a noise ordinance. So, they literally had to come in and be like, ‘You guys are excited to the point of where it might be getting crazy.'”

What This Incident Reveals About WWE’s Wildest Era

WWE has had its fair share of ups and downs throughout the years, from the explicit highs of the Attitude Era to downright boring in the early 2010s. The company is one of the most stable places it’s ever been, even with growing competition. However, they also haven’t completely lost their edge.

It seems that they’ve figured out the kind of leeway they have with Netflix and are getting the most out of it in their product. While they have toned down the violence and problematic storylines, the WWE certainly treats its fans as smart adults, rather than spoiled kids.

It seems they’re recovering a lot of the interest back in their product and revitalizing it every time they visit someplace outside of the US. If you need a reminder, watch a few clips from Backlash 2024. The WWE superstars, especially John Cena, are hoping they can recreate this magic once again.
