The defending champions face the biggest financial challenge
Even with the higher cap coming, many teams are already over the limit for 2026. The Kansas City Chiefs have the biggest problem. The reigning Super Bowl champions are projected to be about $57.6 million over the cap. This shows how expensive it is to keep top players on the roster.
However, the Chiefs have a major advantage. They have the lowest dead cap number in the league at just $215,642. The Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys are both projected to be over $31 million above the limit. The Cleveland Browns are facing a shortfall of nearly $19.5 million. These teams will need to make tough decisions before the 2026 season starts.
