Team USA Hockey's Historic Game-Winning Puck At The Winter Olympics Could Be Going To Auction, But The Price Is Higher Than Expected

The puck holds historical weight.

Weeks ago, Team USA Men’s hockey team went home as Olympic champions after bringing home the country’s first gold medal at the event since 1980. During the final against Canada, NHL star Jack Hughes delivered in the clutch, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. This ultimately gave the United States a 2‑1 victory and ended a 46‑year Olympic gold drought in men’s hockey.

Now, people are raising eyebrows after auction experts’ claims about the value of that golden puck, which sealed one of the most unforgettable moments in recent Olympic history. According to experts at SCP Auctions, as reported by TMZ Sports, the jaw‑dropping estimate is valued at around $1 million.

Collectors and sports memorabilia enthusiasts have shown a voracious appetite for Olympic hockey artifacts in recent years and are willing to spend big money on them. According to David Kohler of SCP, someone bought a Lake Placid gold medal that fetched more than $375,000, and a stick from the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” that cost nearly $300,000. However, Hughes’ puck could obliterate those figures if it ever hit the market.

Auctioning Off The Puck Remains Highly Unlikely

Caught in the jubilation and chaos of the immediate aftermath of the win, Hughes himself admitted on the NHL on TNT broadcast that he had no idea where the puck ended up. “Honestly, I have no idea where that puck went. I know who doesn’t have it is me. I sure as hell don’t have it,” Hughes said on NHL on TNT.

The puck didn’t stay lost for long. Reportedly, officials from the International Ice Hockey Federation recovered the historic puck shortly after the game ended. The federation has handed it over to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, where it would become part of an exhibit celebrating key relics from the 2026 Games, alongside items like the puck from the U.S. women’s gold‑medal victory and jerseys from other Olympic stars.

It remains highly unlikely that the puck would be sold for the estimated record sum. It would probably remain preserved in the Hall of Fame. The Americans have suffered years of drought and disappointments in Olympic ice hockey. Those heartbreaking memories were erased by Hughes’ game-winning puck, which is now a symbol of national pride and sporting excellence.

The men’s female counterparts also won Olympic gold in their respective divisions. However, their victory has been overshadowed by an issue involving President Donald Trump, whose invitation to the White House got rejected by Team USA Women’s Team. Instead, the squad accepted rapper Flavor Flav’s invitation
