Sydney Sweeney Speaks Out After Her Christy Biopic Flops At The Box Office. She Stands Firm Despite The Harsh Criticism From Hollywood Insiders

Sydney Sweeney has spoken up after her film, Christy flopped at the box office.

Sydney Sweeney’s latest film, Christy, is having a bad time at the box office. The David Michôd-directed movie is a biographical sports drama about Christy Martin. The movie stars Sweeney in the lead role as she portrays Martin with true character and grit in an inspiring tale that touches upon her struggles back in her early days as a boxer.

The film has favorable reviews from critics and audiences as of now. Many are praising the 28-year-old actress’s performance in her role as one of the most influential female boxers of all time. However, it seems that the film has been labelled a box-office flop due to its terrible opening weekend.

According to The Wrap, Christy has only earned 1.3 million across 2,011 theatres in its opening weekend. This number is among the 12 lowest figures for a box office debut for a film playing in over 2000 screens. However, Sweeney has now defended the film with a lengthy caption in a post on her Instagram. The Anyone But You star who also produced the sports biopic, claimed she’s so proud of the project. She added that it was one of the biggest honors of her life.

“I am so deeply proud of this movie. Proud of the film David made. Proud of the story we told. Proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life.” she added. “thank you to everyone who saw, felt, and believed and will believe in this story for years to come. if christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded. so yes I’m proud. why? because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life. thank you christy. i love you.”

Christy Had One Of The Worst Openings Of The Year

Sydney Sweeney’s newest film did not have a good time at the box office at all. The Christy Martin biopic has received love from those who saw it. However, Hollywood doesn’t appreciate box office flops, and it’s a mark on an actor’s career when a film turns out to be one.

It doesn’t bode quite well for Sweeney, too, as Hollywood insiders become hesitant to cast actors after these flops. However, a high-profile star such as her can certainly recover with a major project at any point. She has more projects lined up that could become fan favorites, depending on whether the audience gravitates to them.

Sweeney Has Been Embroiled In Controversy Lately

The box office flop of Christy comes at a tough time for Sydney Sweeney. The actress has been caught in a lot of controversy over the backlash from the American Eagle ad. She recently had the choice to comment on it, but refused to clear the air.

It seems not many people have liked this move and are still slandering her on social media. There have also been reports that she stands as a Republican voter as well. These rumors might have also alienated her fans and costars as well. As of now, her public image has certainly taken a hit, and low box office numbers for a film she helped to produce do not help.
