Sydney Sweeney Doubles Down On Her American Eagle Ad Despite Outrage. Critics Say She Looked 'Visibly Annoyed' At GQ Reporter While Promoting Her Latest Boxing Biopic

Sydney Sweeney ignores the backlash from the American Eagle ad and doubles down on it.

Sydney Sweeney has finally broken her silence on the controversial American Eagle ad. The 28-year-old actress has recently been on a press run to promote her latest boxing movie, Christy. Her newest movie is a biographical drama about an iconic female boxer from the 90s, Christy Martin.

She recently sat down for an interview with GQ’s Katherine Stoeffel to promote her newest release. The GQ reporter ultimately brought up the playful American Eagle ad campaign featuring Sweeney that launched back in July. The ad saw the Anyone But You star make playful references to her good ‘genes’, which are passed down from generations.

The American Eagle ad drew quite a bit of backlash for being a bit tone deaf. Many people called her out for glorifying ‘White supremacy’ imagery. Stoeffel gave her a chance to speak about the campaign and finally clear the air about it. Sweeney seemed hesitant to talk about it. However, she ultimately decided to double down on it. She stated that the reaction from the ad was definitely a surprise, but she did a jeans ad because she loves wearing them.

“I did a jean ad,” Sweeney said. “I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”

Sweeney Doesn’t Have Anything To Apologize About For The Jean Ad

Sydney Sweeney found herself at the center of controversy in July after the launch of the American Eagle ad campaign. The 28-year-old actress made a cheeky reference to her genes passing down from parents to offspring, and that her ‘jeans were blue.’

It seemingly references her looks, such as her blond hair and blue eyes. The American Eagle ad campaign didn’t go over well with the masses. It then caught fire as well once Donald Trump and JD Vance voiced their support for her work in the campaign. She was asked about her reaction to the US President calling the ad the ‘HOTTEST’ out of everything out there in the GQ interview.

Sweeney once again remained hesitant to give her thoughts but stated that it was ‘surreal.’ But it clearly seemed that the Euphoria star had nothing to apologize for. After all, in the end, she only did a jeans ad for a famous fashion brand.

Sweeney Was Accused Of Appearing Irritated In A Conversation About The Ad

Sydney Sweeney has a habit of breaking the internet from time to time. But, back in July, it happened for all the wrong reasons for her and attracted quite a lot of negativity towards her. She now finally had a chance to give her complete and honest thoughts about it in the GQ interview.

However, Sweeney certainly seemed like she held back from speaking about it. Perhaps, she knew it would only garner more negative attention towards her. She stated that if there’s something she wants to speak about, people would hear from her. However, the internet still decided to call her out for not being ‘completely honest’ and looking ‘visibly irritated.

We’re sure that the household star primarily wants to focus on promoting her new movie, Christy. She’s been making sure that people know the inspiring story of Christy Martin. However, she might’ve lost some more fans after this awkward moment.
