Steve Kerr Points Fingers After The Warriors Waste Another Steph Curry Masterclass. His Postgame Comments Didn’t Sit Well With Fans

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr points fingers after the team’s shortcomings against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr drew criticism from fans after the team’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, a game in which Steph Curry had an exceptional scoring night. The Warriors lost on the road despite Curry’s 48-point performance, which marked the team’s second straight loss since his return from a thigh injury.

Kerr expressed his frustration with the team’s performance, particularly their inability to finish games successfully. He noted that the Warriors were struggling in close games, with a poor record of 5-9 in such situations at the time. While acknowledging that it was his job to help the team connect the game and admitting he wasn’t doing well, he also explicitly pointed out where he thought the major issues lay.

His post-game remarks focused heavily on specific player mistakes and defensive lapses that contributed to the defeat. The coach’s decision to directly name a veteran player as the main source of errors was what caused the most backlash from fans. By placing blame on a long-time core member of the championship-winning team, Kerr’s comments were perceived by some as deflecting accountability or a breakdown in protecting his players in public.

“Draymond had eight turnovers … a lot of them were just he was just in a rush,” he added. “He’s got to just find a way to slow down a little bit, keep the game under control because that obviously impacts our defense.”

Kerr Singled Out Draymond Green

In his postgame comments, Steve Kerr clearly singled out forward Draymond Green, highlighting his role in the team’s turnovers. Green finished the game with eight turnovers, which accounted for a significant portion of the Warriors’ 18 total turnovers. Kerr stated that many of these mistakes happened because Green was in a rush, implying a lack of composure and control during key moments of the game.

The coach also emphasized that Green needed to slow down a little bit and keep the game under control, stressing the negative impact these errors have on the team’s defense. The team’s turnovers directly translated into easy opportunities for the opponent, which contributed to the high-scoring affair that the Warriors ultimately lost. This public critique was a strong statement about Green’s performance on the night.

Beyond the turnovers, Kerr also briefly mentioned another player, Jimmy Butler, stating that the team had failed to get him involved effectively during the season, especially when Curry was off the court. However, the direct and specific criticism leveled at Green for his careless mistakes stood out as the most controversial and pointed comment from the coach, leading to fan displeasure with his approach.

The Warriors Wasted A Magical Steph Curry Night

The loss was particularly frustrating for the Warriors because it overshadowed Steph Curry’s incredible offensive performance. Curry poured in 48 points, which was not enough to secure a victory against the Trail Blazers. This marked the second straight loss for the team, even with Curry averaging a massive 43.5 points over the two games since his return from injury.

Against Portland, Curry was especially effective from long range, draining 12 three-point shots. This was the highest number of three-pointers made by any player in the league up to that point in the season, and his fifth career game with at least 12 triples. He shot 16-for-26 overall from the field, demonstrating a highly efficient scoring night that should typically guarantee a win.

Despite Curry’s masterclass, the rest of the team failed to provide the necessary support, particularly on defense, which ultimately led to the loss. Opposing players like Jerami Grant and Shaedon Sharpe both scored 35 points, indicating that the Warriors’ defensive efforts were severely lacking. The defeat left fans and the coach disappointed that such a magical and efficient performance from their superstar was ruined by the team’s failure to play solid, consistent basketball.
