Star Wars Racing Is Back With Galactic Racer Revealed at The Game Awards

Now THIS is podracing!

Star Wars made quite a big splash at The Game Awards. The annual show kicked off with an announcement for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, and shortly after, we were greeted with the announcement for Galactic Racer. This new racing game involves unsanctioned racing around an underground circuit, full of lawless racers and conspiring syndicates.

Fuse Games is the developer behind this one, and a lot of them are ex-Criterion devs who worked on Burnout: Paradise and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Publisher Secret Mode announced that the game is coming in 2026 for Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC.

What To Expect From Galactic Racer

2025 was already a great year for arcade racers, with the likes of Kirby Air Riders, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, and Mario Kart World, which ultimately won the best sports game category. Between Galactic Racers and Forza Horizon 6, it looks 2026 will also have some heavy-hitting racing titles.

The developer pedigree of Fuse Games helps put some faith in this new Star Wars project. You can tell from the trailer that the game will be visually stunning and chaotic. As this game takes place in a galaxy far, far away, you’ll find speeder bikes and landspeeders instead of traditional cars. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any podracers in the trailer, and there wasn’t any hint toward them on the game’s website either.

The trailer shows off two planets: the frontier desert planet, Jakku, and the snowy Ando Prime planet from the Mid Rim. Races will take place on these forgotten worlds, dangerous metropolitan slums, and inside industrial complexes, all outside the jurisdiction of the New Republic.

The lore confirms the game will be steeped in controversy. Powerful syndicates pull the strings, controlling the outcome of races and placing deadly bets. Galactic Racers will feature a campaign and multiplayer, with the narrative revolving around a lone racer named Shade. We can’t wait to race in the Jakku sun once Galactic Racers drops in 2026.

In an interview with StarWars.com, Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster describes one of the vehicles and the balance of the game:

“Speederbikes, for example, are fast and ferocious, you’ll be braking heavily into corners, really leaning in, and then massive drops of acceleration as you power your way through the exit. Also notice that in many of our events, our different speeder classes race at the same time, with exciting physical interactions as those differing racing lines come together.”
