Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Sports Interactive has just announced the cancellation of Football Manager 25 after extensive internal discussions and careful consideration with SEGA. The studio expressed regret over the difficult decision but emphasized its commitment to future releases.
Sports Interactive acknowledges the disappointment surrounding the cancellation, especially after previous delays. The studio apologized for the time taken to communicate this decision, explaining that legal and financial obligations prevented an earlier announcement.
Despite the team’s efforts, FM25 has not met expectations in key areas due to both known and unforeseen challenges. While previous delays aimed to bring the game closer to the desired standard, a critical evaluation at the start of the year confirmed it still fell short, even with the adjusted timeline.
The team also stated that releasing FM25 in its current state wasn’t the right choice, and delaying beyond March was not a viable solution. With the cancellation all focus is now on ensuring the next release meets expectations.
They also confirmed that FM24 will not receive a 2024/25 season data update, as it would require significant resources that are needed for the next release. They are also in discussions with platform partners and licensors to extend FM24’s availability on subscription services and will share an update when available.
