Skater XL Delayed, New Launch Date Scheduled For July 28

Originally scheduled to release on July 7, Skater XL has been delayed, in part to things out of publisher Easy Day Studios’ control. The new release date is set for July 28 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. A new launch date is still being worked out for Nintendo Switch fans.

The official Twitter account has posted a few quick video clips, including a first look at Easy Day High School.

Here are the key features in Skater XL.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

Skater XL is unique in that it doesn’t have any tricks programmed into it, only control of the movement through the thumbsticks. Each thumbstick is connected to the corresponding foot of the skater and as the player moves the stick, the board instantly responds. Much like a musical instrument, the player has complete freedom, whether it be pushing to nail a line or skating free from.

PLAY AS REAL-LIFE PRO SKATERS

The game is launching with highly renowned pros TIAGO LEMOS, BRANDON WESTGATE, EVAN SMITH, and TOM ASTA. Each skater will have their own gear that fits their style.

CUSTOMIZABLE CHARACTERS

The possibilities are endless for players to personalize their Skater XL experience. Players can customize their entire look, including their skater’s gear with different tees, hoodies, hats and shoes.

Easy Day Studios has been showing off Skater XL recently in an effort to highlight the addition of some real pro skaters, a firmer launch date and a new downtown LA skating area. All those things are important, but it’s not what will end up making or breaking the game when it releases in July 2020 on PC and consoles. The core of the game — the skating mechanics, the vibes the game gives off and the community the studio nurtures — is really what will end up determining if the game has legs or not.

  1. True story - I was jogging in a park near my house one Sunday morning and I noticed a structure of some sort near the skateboard park.  I jogged back there to see what was going on and asked a man standing there what it was.    He said something like skateboard ramp.
Later that day I was listening to the news and they said Tony Hawk had made a unannounced visit to the city to do an exhibition.  I looked up Tony Hawk on the internet - that's who I was talking to.  I was talking to a famous guy and didn't know it.
