Shaquille O’ Neal decided to candidly speak about the people comparing him to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s prime. It looks as if the NBA Legend was feeling quite humble this particular day because he did not shoot down the debate at all.
O’ Neal appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq and decided to field some questions from some reporters. One of them asked the Lakers icon for his opinion on who is a better player in their prime, him or Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Lakers Legend decided to be graceful and throw some flowers over to the Greek-Nigerian basketball player. He first stated that he and the Milwaukee Bucks forward are different players. However, O’Neal then admitted that the latter is better than him since the sport has evolved since he left it.
“We are different players , but I’ll probably have to say Giannis,” He said. “You know the game has evolved from when I played, and that’s what you want. You want evolution in the game.”
The Fans Instantly Started Debating Which Player Is Better
Shaquille O’ Neal often reminds everyone that he was a monster in the NBA, and few would disagree with him. However, it seemed that he wanted to be humble and give the right praise to Giannis Antetokounmpo for his skill on the basketball court.
Even though he admitted the Bucks forward was better than him, his show co-host, Gillie Da Kid, wasn’t having any of it. He claimed that O’ Neal is only being humble and that Antetoukounmpo is nowhere near better than him and that it’s not even close. It seems that all of this chatter surrounding the better player in his prime has sparked a brand new debate amongst fans.
Many fans are now discussing which player would truly outshine the other in his prime. While many defended O’Neal’s legacy in the NBA, some fans also made the case for Antetokounmpo. Some of them claimed that the sport has gotten better since the Lakers icon left, and many other players are now better than him.
Shaq Holds The Edge In Accolades In The NBA
Even though the debate between who’s the better player in his prime might rage on now, there’s no denying that Shaquille O’ Neal has a distinct edge. It’s all because the Lakers icon possesses four NBA Championships, and Giannis Antetokounmpo only has one so far.
Now, even though that might change depending on Giannis looking to prove himself once again, it seems that factor might stop the debate for most fans. After all, championships in the game still matter a lot.
