Ozzy Osbourne’s passing affected everyone around the world. The Prince of Darkness passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 76 on July 22, 2025. We’re still mourning the loss of a rock icon who pioneered the heavy metal sound in the 70s. However, it looks as if WWE Superstar Becky Lynch made light of his passing and used it in her promo on Monday Night RAW.
The former WWE Women’s Champion took a shot at the Birmingham crowd and used Osbourne to draw major heat from the crowd. Lynch stated that the only good thing to come out of Birmingham was Osbourne. She then stated that if she had to live in that area, then she would d*e too.
It seems that The Man’s heelish tactics to draw heat might have worked a bit too well. The late rock legend’s daughter, Kelly Osbourne, responded to these comments on her Instagram story. She called out Lynch and seemingly tagged the wrong account. She also shamed WWE for allowing their stars to make remarks like these against her father.
“Shame on the @wwe for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home.”
WWE Is Embarrassed And Considering An Apology
Becky Lynch’s promo on the August 25 edition of Monday Night RAW has certainly garnered a lot of heat from fans as well. The Man is a great heel, but perhaps this time she was a bit too good at her job. Kelly Osbourne isn’t happy at all and has pointed her finger at WWE for allowing this incident.
It seems that the Stamford-based professional wrestling promotion is embarrassed as well. Reports have come out from Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer that state that the company is considering making an apology. It’s not yet known if the apology is going to be made in public or private as of yet.
The promotion had inducted Ozzy Osbourne into the Hall of Fame in 2021, so it’s even more important for them to make this right.
A Line Should Be Drawn For Heel Promos
Heels in professional wrestling aren’t meant to be liked. If the crowd is booing them loudly, it mostly means that they’re doing their job right. This can happen through cheap tactics to win, hurting the babyface, or being mean to the crowd.
We’ve seen the latter done plenty of times before in WWE to great effect. However, on this occasion, it seems that Becky Lynch might have crossed the line. While she might not have truly meant it since she did it in her heel character, it still comes out in bad taste.
The company needs to learn from this mistake and draw a line in the sand for heels. While we should let heels act in their evil ways, it’s not the right call to use someone’s passing for heat.
