Ronda Rousey is once again taking aim at the UFC, and her latest comments about the promotion’s planned White House event have sparked significant discussion across the MMA community. The former UFC champion publicly dismissed the promotion’s upcoming “UFC Freedom 250” card scheduled for June 14 at the White House in Washington. White recently announced that Jon Jones will not be a part of the event, and that did not sit well with Jones.
Rousey’s blunt reaction quickly circulated online after she posted a message criticizing both the event and one of the promotion’s recent title fights. According to MMA Fighting, Rousey made the comments while promoting her upcoming bout against Gina Carano, taking a direct shot at the UFC’s lineup and comparing it unfavorably with the event she is headlining.
Rousey’s remarks came in a tweet Monday as she highlighted the main event of her upcoming card, which features her long-awaited return to MMA alongside another high-profile heavyweight matchup. Her message made it clear she believes her event is delivering more value to fans than what the UFC recently announced. The event itself might be suffering millions in losses.
Ronda Rousey Goes Ballistic
“How’s THAT for a bamf laden double headliner?” Rousey wrote about the card, which will also feature Francis Ngannou facing Philipe Lins. She praised the promotion behind the event, adding that it reflects what happens “when you put fighters and fans ahead of shareholders @MostVpromotions.” Her tweet concluded with an unmistakable jab at her former organization. “P.S. @ufc’s White House card (expletive),” Rousey wrote.
The UFC’s planned White House event has already generated significant buzz within the sport. The promotion officially revealed the lineup on Saturday, announcing that six fights, including two title bouts, will take place during the historic card. The event is also expected to coincide with former President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday, further elevating the attention surrounding the show.
Her comments arrive as she prepares for a high-profile fight against Gina Carano on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The matchup has been widely described as a “superfight” between two of the pioneers of women’s MMA. The bout against Carano also carries personal importance for Rousey. She revealed that the fight was something she initially pitched to the UFC before eventually moving forward with it outside the promotion.
Rousey explained that the story surrounding the matchup goes beyond the two fighters themselves. During a behind-the-scenes “MVP UNCUT” promotional video released Monday, she suggested the event represents a broader rivalry between organizations. “It’s a dream fight and a superfight and everything, but I feel like the story, and everything behind it, is not just this fight,” Rousey said while speaking with MVP chief Nakisa Bidarian.
“A lot of it is MVP vs. UFC. That’s where I’m going to go real hard in the (expletive) trenches.” Rousey also criticized the business practices of the UFC during the promotional video. She referenced antitrust lawsuits that have been filed against the promotion in recent years while suggesting competition is necessary for the sport.
“We’re helping (the UFC) because they’re suffering from a lack of competition,” she said. “They can’t just make a class-action lawsuit every couple years the cost of doing business.” Her comments ended with another pointed remark aimed at UFC president Dana White. “I’m really trying to help Dana out,” Rousey said. “If anyone has been groomed to be his apprentice, it’s been me. I think I’d be the most favorite adversary he’s ever had.”
