The internet is going emotional over the recent Gronkowski-Patriots situation, where the feelings skyrocketed at the end of his one-day contract.
With the team playing against the New York Jets in Thursday Night Football shortly after he was leaving, the tight end considered joining his crew as a one last hurrah. Can’t blame him, being the team’s highlight, Rob shares a genuine connection. Getting sentimental just after inking the ceremonial deal symbolizes a deep commitment to the Patriots, even after his retirement.
“Like, you have to probably have some type of pay, you know, structured in the contract, even if it’s a one-day contract. … If I do sign a one-day, he would put me in. Josh McDaniels, he knows how to. … But if I sign it, if I sign it today, at 12:15, it expires at 12:15 tomorrow, I gotta wait till, like, 10 p.m. to sign it tonight, because then I can, typically, I can, I can actually play in the game then, until, you know, until about 10:30 tomorrow night.”
Gronk Also Wondered If He Would Get A Signing Bonus
As the game against the Jets was on the horizon during the contract signing event, Robert Kraft jokingly mentioned a two-day extension. If that were to happen, Gronk would get a chance to serve his team for the very last time in the TNF.
As this was all sarcasm, Gronk also replied with his trademark humor, saying a signing bonus can convince him to join. Both parties were playfully exchanging words, but the athlete felt genuine excitement as it was about him returning to the field.
But, unfortunately, the time has passed for the former tight-end. It’s time for the new crop of talent to have their shot and try to give Gronk’s records and legacy a run for its money.
The Tight End Is Retired Once Again After Signing A One-Day Contract
If we start counting, this is Gronk’s third retirement following March 2019 and June 2022. Regardless of the momentary urge, the player has said farewell not only to the team that made him a legend, but also to the sport itself.
Along the journey, Rob has created countless golden memories. From winning three Super Bowl titles to five Pro Bowl selections, there’s a lot for him and the fans to remember. The New England Patriots are the athlete’s identity, and this one-day deal will surely make it to the history books because it’s more than a meaningful gesture.
