Microsoft is making big changes to the Game Pass. First, data miners discovered a new tier of first-party games in the backend, and Microsoft later confirmed it. Following that, Microsoft dropped the price of Xbox Game Pass tiers yesterday, and now they are reportedly working on a new “pick your own plan” system.
According to a report from Windows Central, Microsoft’s long-term plans for Game Pass could include a “pick your own plan” feature. The feature would allow users to tailor their subscriptions by selecting specific services and content, rather than paying for a fixed tier.
The idea is to give players more control over what they pay for. You would be able to pick and choose the benefits you want and remove the rest. This should bring down the monthly costs. You could, in theory, remove things you don’t need, such as Cloud Gaming or maybe Fortnite Crew. It’s aimed at making Game Pass not only more affordable but also more flexible.
Why This Is A Good Move

The reported “pick your own plan” approach is a significant change from Game Pass’s current structure, which bundles a wide range of features into tiers like Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Instead, the new system may resemble a modular model, where players choose exactly what they want included.
Cloud Gaming can be used as a good example: the feature is great on paper, but not many casual gamers use it. I buy Game Pass Ultimate every month for the library it offers; I’ve never used the Cloud gaming feature, yet I pay for it every month. If there is an option that can give me the same library of games for cheaper just by opting out of Cloud Gaming, that’s a sweet deal.
While the feature is still in the exploratory stage and has not been officially confirmed, it reflects Microsoft’s broader push to make Game Pass more adaptable. The company has acknowledged that its player base spans different regions, making a single subscription model less effective for everyone.
If implemented, a customizable plan could make Game Pass more appealing to users who feel they are paying for features they rarely use.
For now, the “pick your own plan” concept remains a reported initiative rather than a confirmed feature. However, it signals that Microsoft is actively rethinking how Game Pass operates as it looks to evolve the service.
