In Pokémon Champions, to reach the final rank in the game, the Champion Tier, you have to become one of the top 300 players worldwide. Getting to that point is no easy feat, and while there’s an obvious grind to it, it won’t necessarily be achievable for even the most dedicated of players. Players expected that reaching Champion Tier would net them great rewards, but unfortunately, that’s not the case.
If you somehow do reach Champion Tier, the reward is just 1,000 VP. Victory Points, or VP, are the primary in-game currency for Pokémon Champions. You use them to recruit Pokémon, customize stats, change moves/abilities, and purchase items. Over at the r/Pokémon Champions subreddit, people find this to be an incredibly weak reward. Additionally, your Pokémon do get a Champion title, but the frustrating part is that there’s no special Ribbon for it either.
“Wait, no additional box slots? So realistically the most beneficial place to stop is in the Master tier?”
Why Is The Champions Tier Reward So Miniscule?
None of us here at Operation Sports has been able to reach the Champions Tier yet (it’s not exactly easy). However, a handful of players online have been able to accomplish this feat, and apart from the 1,000 VP, the title itself is hilarious. Say you have Charizard in your team and use it to reach Champion Tier, the title that you can enable simply says “Charizard the Champion-Tiered.” That’s a pretty basic title, and you could already earn this exact title if you beat the Elite 4 in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.
A cool cosmetic at the very least should be a reward for becoming one of the top 300 players in the world. Now, some argue that the reason these rewards are the way they are is that most people won’t reach the tier. Nintendo likely doesn’t want to lock most of the player base out of rewards, and nerfing the Champion Tier means people still get the most out of the game by reaching the next best rank, the Master Ball tier. Still, we feel like a single cosmetic item would have been fine.
