PlayStation is giving its most dedicated fans a chance to become part of its games with the introduction of The Playerbase, a new community initiative that puts players directly into the experience. Applications are now open with the first opportunity centered around Gran Turismo 7 and more titles expected to be added over time.
The program reflects PlayStation’s long-standing focus on its community offering a unique way for fans to step into some of its biggest worlds. Selected players will have their likeness scanned and appear in a PlayStation Studios game, starting with Gran Turismo 7 for a limited time with the winner announced in the summer. The rollout will be limited to select regions across the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia with interested players required to sign in with their PlayStation account and answer a few questions as part of the application process.
From the pool of applicants, a small group of finalists will move on to video interviews before one fan is ultimately chosen to be featured in Gran Turismo 7. That person will receive a custom in-game appearance as a character portrait and will also work with a designer to create a personalized Fantasy Logo and vehicle livery that will be added permanently to the game’s Showcase menu. The selected fan will travel to a Los Angeles studio for a full scanning session and creative collaboration.
PlayStation plans to build on The Playerbase by bringing it to more titles in the future, tailoring how fans are included based on each game’s style. The program serves as a way to recognize the players who have helped shape the platform, while giving them a chance to be part of it in a more personal way.
