  1. Played a few matches this morning and enjoyed it. Game is waaay slower and ball feels really free. Rammel29 is my PSN let me know if you see me online. :D
The online connection has been perfect so far. The game looks and feels great. Only negative so far is the matchmaking. It's kinda slow but got better as I played more games.  Not usually an online gamer, but maybe I should start. I'm a little better than I thought. Got a 4-1 win and made another guy rage quit after going up 3-0.

I haven't been able to beat anyone by that much yet lol. I do notice you can get easily punished if you constantly press.
Also there are some new Advanced Tactics/Instructions.
I saw two new ones on Defence.
Wing Back which finally allows us to use 3-4-3/3-5-2 properly.
Defensive which stops your fullbacks from overlapping.**Correction you can stop players from going forward tested it a bit more in a recent game.**

Lol, 1st game I get a goal at the top of the 2nd, the guy quit.
    1: pace feels great
2:I'm loving how the ball is it own thing and will continue on its path while the players battle for position. I'm so used to Fifa and having the ball just stuck to you feeling.
My first impressions are GREAT ! PES is back...
It's only a online beta but you can definitely see all the improvements made so far on Pace & Game's tempo. This was a must-do for this upcoming game. Glad the devs listenned .
3vs3 seems a lot fun, when it works... but like this beta is for that purpose testing the servers in order to fix it when the final version releases.
I made some pretty amazing goals. Still some issue on matchmaking for me but nothing to do with the game itself.
ps : only con ;) why animations net are still the exact same old one. Visuals & commentators are on point but how in the world can you miss a detail like that. Don't even see when I score sometimes ;)
Saw these two tweets from Adam, really good to hear. Personally I don't plan to spend much time with the Beta since I am not really an online player.

I definitely like the pace of the game. It has slowed down but in a good way. In PES 2017, always felt like my opponent was faster than my team no matter the player.
Just wish they had more than two teams.

People worried about games being end to end you probably dont have to be too worried as I have yet to experience a match like that. It could be because I use fluid formations but take that with a grain of salt. Also been using a 3-4-3 with France it is really fun.

The human 3v3 and some of the 3vsCom will be ONLY because people pull themselves out of position opening up space to exploit
Having a lot of fun with the 3vs com though.

    Ah ok. Thank you.
Only played one game so far, but man I love the player movement and freedom of the ball. You can definitely feel a difference between Griezmann and Giroud too. Pogba is also a monster in the middle of the field. The collision system is also greatly improved from anything I've played in recent years.
The game as a whole just feels different...in a good way!

Giroud is really good in this demo especially with the new auto shielding mechanic I notice alot of people that use France always replace him with Lacazette. For me he pairs better with Mbappe/Dembele/Griezmann/Payet.
Found a kinda workaround for playing with friends.
    We picked 3v cpu

Granted the beta’s objective is to gauge the online experience, I can’t help but notice how the game has changed in all areas – mostly positively.
Been playing since the PS2 days and based on what I saw last night, this is one hell of an effort. If Konami gave us the option to choose day / night matches in all modes – I would be extremely happy.
    Pros
    - Vastly improved player models
    - Player individualities stand out – both in terms of how they look and how they move / play
    - There is a sense of freedom I have never experienced before. In true PES style, everything feels unpredictable. Many more loose balls and passes going astray (compared to last year)
    - The midfield is much more compact – the spaces from years past have been reduced drastically though I am not sure if this was due to tactics (I noticed tactics were pre-selected, though I did not explore which ones).
    - Graphics are much sharper and colours are more vibrant
    - Daytime (sunny) matches look stunning (sadly not the same can be said about night time matches or matches in the rain)
    - I like the new free kick camera. It now follows the ball from the kicker’s viewpoint – instead of switching to vertical once the ball has been kicked
    - Dynamic weather is a cool idea though I am still on the fence if it actually adds anything to the game. It would be better to have sunshine and rain in the same match (currently it’s just drizzle and then rain).
    - Players take a shorter time to recover from a tackle (last year they were practically “out of action” for a good second after a tackle. Now you can almost battle to win the ball back with the same player
    - I see many people say the game pace is slower. I don’t think the pace is slower, what I am noticing is that the players now move at a wider variety of speeds. Last year it felt you had two speeds. Walk and sprint. This year it feel like they have an in-between speed as well.
    - I like the new keeper animations. They also distribute the ball better with their hands
    - The new “shielding the ball” animation looks great and it really does add to the plethora of commands and the overall experience
    - Not sure if the indicators for player assist were there last year, but this is the first time I’ve seen them and they help massively
    - The passes look less assisted (I noticed assistance is locked at level 1 and cannot be changed in the Beta). Last year Level 1 felt too assisted.
    Cons
    - Matches played at night and in the rain look much inferior graphically. Textures, shadows and light look almost as if they are played on a previous generation console.
    - Maybe I still need to get used to the controls or maybe it was online lag but my passes felt a bit slower to execute and a bit shorter (in terms of distance travelled). Note - If this is to do with pass the assistance level, it’s not a bad thing.
    - The commentary is old and tired, Drury still shouts needlessly and both commentators talk over one another when a goal is scored
    - Menus still look they are from 80s – no biggy
    - Music is terrible (as always) – no biggy – I always switch it off
    - I experienced some online lag – but only on 2 of my 10 matches played
Closing comments – The game looks vastly improved – both in terms of graphics / animations and in terms of gameplay. The difference between last year and this year is miles bigger compared to 2017 and 2016. There is an organic and loose feel about it. I had about 10 games and each felt very different, depending on who I was playing. It is very enjoyable and refreshing. When I lose I know why I have lost. When I win – ditto. When you are controlling a player, you know who it is and psychologically it arms you with the desire and freedom to play like that player plays in real life. For example, if you are controlling Payet, you just feel like taking a player on or cutting in with a quick burst of speed (like Payet does in real life).
One suggestion / plea for Konami – please include the option to choose day / night matches in all modes (including season). Last year it was arbitrary and more often than not it defaulted to night matches, the light for which is awful.

3vs3 seems a lot fun, when it works... but like this beta is for that purpose testing the servers in order to fix it when the final version releases.

They fixed with maintenance last night. It is working now. Played a few games this morning before work with no problem.
I played last night and I've never played PES before. I'm a FIFA guy since the Genesis days. So here are my thoughts.
First I think it's much easier to get into a game than in EA's convoluted system they have. Way easier. Big plus for me!
Secondly, the graphics are just not near as good as FIFA. They are acceptable and don't get me wrong, they really would be fine if I hadn't seen/played FIFA before but I have so...
Lastly, I do love the gameplay and since I don't know any real soccer players I could care less about the licenses.
Overall I think this seems to be a pretty fun game and I'm going to look to pick it up on sale as a compliment to FIFA but it is not going to convert me from FIFA at this point.
Just saw a video of a guy playing the online beta, and his opponent was skipping all the cut scenes, and ended up eventually rage quiting after going down 3 goals. On a freaking fee beta. Thank you eSports and competitive gaming. I will go ahead and wait for the demo lol.

Already bored with the beta on Pass Assist 1. It's essentially ping-pong. Doubtful this game will be good. The AI will almost certainly be a letdown as we have already seen in the videos. No way am I editing the tactics of each team. PES is still in the dark ages. PES needs a page 1 re-write of its player spacing. It's so arcadey. LMAO Looking forward to more authoritarian propaganda praising this game from @bryan_wenb to cover for their power-seeking circle jerk with Asim and Bhatti. Definitely the funniest "coverage" I've ever seen. Looking forward to FIFA 18.

First time playing PES. To be fair, I've never been a fan of soccer games. I used to play the EA World Cup games back in 94'- 98' and enjoyed them.
I played a few matches last night and I must say the gameplay and animatioms are wonderful. The control scheme seems a bit complex for a beginner., but I watched a few youtube videos which helped.
I'm interested in picking this game up on release but I have two concerns..
    1. How is the franchise mode? Does it have longetivity...
    2. How is the CPU AI? I've seen some posters mention the AI has been shoddy in previous PES games.. This would kill the fun factor for me becuasec I am primarily an off-line gamer.
Any insight would be appreciated. Cheers!
Let me first say, I'm not very good at PES as I don't have the button combinations down for various moves or any of that stuff. I'm also not a tactical genius or the type of guy who may stay in perfect position all the time. I'm a massive soccer fan but never played it growing up so I don't have the ins and outs of that stuff.
However I just played a game 1 v 1. I was getting outplayed as I just couldn't string many passes together. I was down 1-0. The guy was still trying to press to go up 2-0. So I change to a counter attack in minute 77. 2 minutes later it's 1-1. After changing to that I completely dominated him after he would lose the ball because I would just kick the ball ahead and go in with numbers. I strung a few nice passes together and played a low through ball from outside the box, to the middle of the box and Giroud just tapped it in.
I've played PES last year and occasionally dating back to 2012, but I am mainly a FIFA guy. In all my years playing FIFA I don't recall ever changing my attack like that and it basically working instantly. Hell, there's times where you can change something in FIFA and not even know the change went through. It just felt incredible. I ended up drawing 1-1 but had 3 good chances after my goal, where as before the 77th minute I couldn't even attempt a shot.
This game just feels so much better as compared to last years. The pace of it is just incredible. It feels so much more life like. I never play online but so far the experience has been quite good, minus the two times guys have rage quit on me when I take the lead. Nonetheless I really want to see the CPU in action. So far so good though. If the announcers and presentation wasn't so awful, this game could completely take over FIFA for me I think. The gameplay just feels like anything can happen, as compared to FIFA where a lot of the same things seem to happen.

Don't expect the franchise mode or CPU AI to be good. Those are the two weakest parts of PES. And btw, whatever you do, don't listen to @bryan_WENB he is a notorious authoritarian propagandist for Bhatti and Asim. And you better dare not question Bryan -- the loser can't handle mild criticism. He is an authoritarian tool for Bhatti and Asim.
The AI "not being good" is pretty far from the truth IMO. I've played a ton of 3vsCom co-op mode and there are times where I forget I'm playing the CPU.
Obviously I can't speak for what the final game's going to look like but so far so good.

The critiques of the E3 videos were not acknowledged by Bhatti. He thought everything was fine in its current state. That's an admission that those problems will not be addressed.

If you're a beginner, the A.I. will definitely be a challenge. Superstar level has been more like top player level for vets, but Konami have said there will be new higher difficulty level this year. There's a demo coming out next month so you'll be able to test it out. As for the franchise, I will admit, when compared to other games, it is pretty basic. Hopefully I can get more than 2 seasons out of it this year.
Been playing the beta on full-manual. And it's quite annoying how manual actually plays quite assisted. Yet another area PES still continues to lag behind on.
    Josam27o7

I can honestly say I have yet to play a soccer game where you can't get way with ping pong passing. Pass assist 1 is a lot less assisted than last year. You can over/under hit a pass and crossing is not automatic. Plus Matt is on those same podcast sometimes with Bryan. If he comes out and praises the game, you're gonna call that "authoritarian propaganda" too?

    1) I am a long-time manual player, so maybe my expectations are too high. I even feel that in the beta manual passing doesn't feel as free as it needs to be. I am not saying that pass assist 1 is not better than last year, but what I am saying is that it is nowhere near close to the freedom that it needs to be at. You can't see that?
    2) It's not about praising the game. It's about how you act on the whole. @bryan_wenb is a notorious authoritarian propagandist that serves the needs of Asim and Bhatti. There is so much to be critical with PES and all he does is spew praise so he can be within an power circle. It is clear as day. What makes him authoritarian is that he will not accept anyone being critical of this situation. That is by definition authoritarian propagandist. You should be speaking truth to power and questioning them, NOT kissing up. @bryan_wenb is a tool. A laughing-stock.

Pass assist on PA1 is wayyyy less assisted than last year and manual passing is quite a tricky beast compared with last year. For me, manual remains the way to go also because if you filter opponents with the same passing assist level than you, you get a more respectful population of players (in my experience) without having to wait much more time.
Interestingly I found that advanced shooting gave the most sensitive/difficult experience in front of the goal compared with basic or even manual.
Never played PES before this demo but I'm really liking it so far. I'm terrible at it though. I'm trying to find PES 17 for cheap but no store around me has it in stock.
Not sure if i will make the jump this year from Fifa. Mainly because all my friends play Fifa and we always play online. I'm trying to get as many as I can to download the PES demo.

Thanks for the advanced shooting tip.
I literally cannot find a game when I use manual w/ the similar assistance level setting. You are lucky, I always have to choose no restrictions.
    Josam27o7
My friend, how did you get a manual v manual match? Since it only lets you sort by "similar level."

i just set up all manual (shot pa lvl0, shots manual), similar settings, network lvl4... then wait a minute... bling... matched! worked good the last 3 days. the evenings and weekends are pretty busy, but in the morning hours i had the best lag free online performances.
the beta "found" me 3 new users for my friends list. they did play manual AND they did play build up... not just counter attacking all the time. i like that type of player as it suits my style of play. build up, looking for that one possibility rather than spaming crosses or dribble to death. you know what i mean.
its sad that only pa lvl is taken into account when matching players with similar settings. i was lucky as the guys i played had manual shots enabled too. in the game, you can still change shot settings to basic (later), but as i said, my opponents were all manual! :)
one more thing: playing manual really changes the game experience for me. its even slower, you think about passes you wanna do more, and its more rewarding, imo. assisted passing never let me do the stuff i wanted to create. some passes are just not possible.
    just my 2 cents.

After playing ~10 games in beta it seems like tactical part of gameplay is pretty much the same as before (forwards not defending, midfield being passive etc.). It will be easier to tell the difference when it's possible to play against cpu.
I have liked the gameplay and game mechanics and will probably buy the game at some point. It would be nice if they made some improvements to tactics so there wouldn't be as much editing game plans to get the gameplay right. After playing online I can see that many players care more about dribbling than build up so I can understand why they are focusing more on game mechanics.
I'm trying not to judge the gameplay, because I know this was an old build. Looking forward to the demo.
    Thoughts on online:
    - Matchmaking was very slow at times. My first game took 10 minutes to connect.
    - Once connected, it seemed connection was pretty good. I do have Fios Gig connection though. So it may have just been me.
    - Disappointed there wasn't an invite system to test. Hopefully there aren't any issues there when the game drops.
Gameplay: Again, old build... so it's all with a grain of salt.
    - Love the ball mechanics
    - Love the pace. Feels much more realistic.
    - Player weight is on point
    - Defense finally takes skill. Love it.
    - That said, dribbling is extremely overpowered in this build. Passing is almost unneeded.
I'm having a blast with the beta. Online connections have been really good, considering how much of a mess it's been in the past for me online. 3v3 is addicting if you have competent teammates. Can't wait to check out the demo when it drops.

its sad that only pa lvl is taken into account when matching players with similar settings. i was lucky as the guys i played had manual shots enabled too. in the game, you can still change shot settings to basic (later), but as i said, my opponents were all manual!

Is there a way to look to see if your opponent is on manual shots or are you just going by what you see when they shoot? Just curious, Thanks
I haven't played like this yet on the beta but by watching your gameplay video full manual the game looks even more realistic to me.. and forces the players to play more realistic which I like. lvl1 assist is not that bad to me.. at first I was struggling and I still miss passes. I do think the default shooting needs to be tone down some as I don't think it should be that easy to hit upper 90's crackers your first couple of matches played... even though I am using top players. I really love the pace and flow of the match in the online beta.

when passing and shooting, you can see a yellow power bar instead of a green one (when on pa1 and up).

It's so arcadey if you use assisted controls, absolutely not on full manual controls. I understand it's a lot of work to edit the teams to your play style liking but the good news that option files now include all of that. Some good fans in the community are doing a great job. I am not going to judge the game based on the beta, even though kind of enjoyed some of the games for the first time ever! but I am not an online player anyway, and I think the online beta was not the best way from the developer to create a first impression of the game

I think the online beta was not the best way from the developer to create a first impression of the game

While it will be the first impression of the game for some, that is not what it's intended for. They want to test their online environment, and presumably, with sufficient time to make changes if needed.
I can't find the quote now, but they said they'll be releasing a demo to really show the game off.

the demo after gamescom will be release code, adam said. so judging PES2018's gameplay only makes sense with this build!
the beta is early code, only to test online performance.
I agree for the most part as far as just the gameplay on the pitch
I am slightly impressed actually with the servers somewhat.. considering I'm use to it not working at all or being crap.
it's not to FIFA's level yet.. FIFA's servers are superior without a doubt to any sports game.. but looks like PES has come a long way and now are good enough for me now to buy this game again I think... this beta was probably meant for people like me who hasn't bought PES the last few years because the online experience was so horrible. I usually play more online with friends than offline by myself. I have been sticking with FIFA mainly because of that.
but in this beta online.. even the 3 v 3 co op is playable.. and gives me hope.. I have had some good fun games playing with randoms and it wasn't even that laggy at all in 3 v 3. If this works and I can play with friends of mine online together.. this might be my go to game for that this year. I just have to convince my other fifa online buddies who i play club and leagues with of that
I can only imagine playing with a buddy of mine online together against others in co op like we use to do offline in the PS2 PES days...
    as far as 1 v 1 online...
I think the beta gameplay on the pitch is better than the current FIFA 17 online gameplay which I play a ton of. I'm currently in DIV 3 in FIFA online and I think I'm pretty good at it but I see more depth and skill in this game already. I prefer the match flow and pace of the gameplay in this. .. one thing that makes fifa so great online is not only the servers but it's so easy to get into games and so many people are online playing it. I hope there will be enough in PES online in North America now. that's a worry for me and PES is average to below when it comes to getting into games compared to FIFA. With that said... last night I'm starting to get into matches even faster on the PES beta so it's like they are improving stuff like that as this demo goes along which is great to see. At first for example, 3 v 3 never even worked for and 1 v 1 took longer to get into matches
but comparing both games online1 v 1 gamelay PES 2018 online beta vs current FIFA 17 online Divisions... PES wins with being more real to life for me hands down...
there is a couple of things as far as gameplay I forgot to mention that need to be fixed...
the biggest thing right now is probably the chip shot abuse glitch...
the other is shooting needs to be toned down and adjusted more.
I think pass 1 is fine... but the basic shooting is not... and manual shooting is well almost to impossible to play with against others who are not using it. I tried it and it was i could never hit the target. lol
I will try advanced though as I seen some mention it is good... dribbling is very good in this game and body contact and the physical nature of the game is really good as well
You really need to defend and contain well in this and it's not that easy.. if you like step in and high press full blast against your opponents like you see on fifa online a lot... you will get beat easy on this... if that's all you got on defending. I really need to get up to speed on the tactics of PES though.. I don't know everything like i do in FIFA and for me I can tell PES rewards the more tatical smarter player more than FIFA does online..
lastly, what i think is more important about this PES online beta.. is the more you play it the more you will like it. At first I thought it was cool but now after playing it more I'm getting really excited about it liking it more and more. That reminds of PES games of old.. there is a certain learning curve or feel process to it and this game certainly has it. I just notice maybe the better I get at it... the more enjoyable the online experience becomes I guess.
My favorite things I noticed from the 1 game I played:
  2. The "stun guns" from last year are gone. Defenders can recover quickly after being stripped of the ball.
  3. The ball does seem to do "more" this year in terms of loose balls.

I actually didn't notice the speed at all, but it's probably been 4 months since I've played 2017. I always think games play too fast anyway, so that's probably why.
  4. wkhalil

I want Manual to be more free. As it is in Fifa. It is hard for me to go from the freedom in Fifa's manual passing to the limitations that are present in PES. Furthermore, honestly, I got bored w/ PES 18 after 3 days -- its limited physics system just makes the game feel so limited across the board. I stopped playing the beta after the NHL 18 beta came out. **THIS** was the game that caused @bryan_wenb to go into hype mode after E3??? LMAO. Talk about authoritarian propaganda.

It's not needless. I politely critiqued his approach on twitter and he exploded at me and blocked me on twitter. That's disgusting. This is the reason. This intolerant approach to anything slightly critical destroys our online communities. Calling it out is important. We need open dialogue, not shutting people down.

anyone else here miss this beta like me? I couldn't get enough of it
for me the PES 2018 online beta was the best and most addicting online beta that I ever play for any video game.
and nothing has made me miss it more than playing the FIFA 18 beta. I have been a FIFA online regular the last few years with my club usually in Div 3 and 4 with my pro club and also being in Div 3 in seasons for 1 v 1..
after playing the latest FIFA 18 beta... I miss PES 2018 even more and going to buy this game this year.. This gameplay in FIFA doesn't even come close to it.. not even half as good. I don't know what it is but something changed with me again after playing PES beta and getting hooked on it... when I play FIFA 18 beta I think it's really bad and boring. I'm excited for September 12th and can't wait...
PES online beta beats FIFA 18 online pro clubs for me... and FIFA online pro clubs was one of the biggest reasons why I played FIFA the last 3 years or so.. that and Online in general... mainly because FIFA is way better online. not anymore.. I enjoyed my PES online beta more now.. and it's more realistic and addicting gameplay 1 v 1. I can control the pace of the game in PES and I can easily beat someone who presses the entire game by using simple tactics and footballing IQ.. in FIFA.. you can't do that as easy at all. simple as that.. I don't know how else to explain it. PES rewards smarter realistic play when it comes 1 v 1 while FIFA rewards those who can out button mash the other opponent more.
Here are some videos I captured from the beta I posted on another forum. like I said best beta I ever played.

I also miss the beta, been playing 2017 and even the FIFA 18 beta, but nothing compares.
Just waiting for the demo in a couple weeks to hold me over until the release
Stevostl I miss it as well. This is the first footy game to get me excited about online I just hope they didn't mess up the final product because I really really enjoyed 3v3 more than I thought I would.
Wow glad I'm not the only one and even more happy to find some genuine opinions here. I recently got back into PES (17 was my first proper purchase) and I always felt that the gameplay was vastly superior.
I don't play UT or Career, its just straight up Online Divisions / Seasons. I found the PES 18 beta to be a thing of beauty, true football if you will. There was midfield play (no ping pong soccer) and it just made things feel more creative.
And now you folks are going on about how the FIFA 18 beta feels inferior. Thats how I feel about FIFA 17 vs PES 17!
Looks like this year will finally be the year where I buy one soccer game.
Well, i think the demo will be out on August 30 with 12 teams, it was announced at Mexican World Tour.
The teams will be Brazil, Germany, Argentine, Barcelona, Dortmund, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Boca Jrs, River Plate, Corinthians, Flamengo and Colo Colo. Don´t know about stadiums but probably the same of the Beta.
Yeah I heard and not to turn this into a Vs thread but for those of you who played the FIFA 18 beta: does it play like 17?
Need to be decisive on my purchase this year, not buying both games so please help!

As someone on Xbox, if option files are in XBOX version of 18, then no brainer. Still no word on it yet. Most likely not.
Still a long way off from release, so a lot can change. I'm holding my excitement until a few weeks after release. Been burned too many times by both franchises to know how dangerous early hype can be.

Eh? Fifa 17 is actually pretty good w/ the op sports sliders. I would rather play Fifa 17 than PES 18's extreme openness and end-to-end gameplay.

There is something to be said about needing to close down the end to end play - but in both franchises.
I liked the tweaks suggested here last year for the PES gameplay to keep the defenders from bolting backwards. Though editing every teams formation is too big of a pain for me (I don't do it).
I didn't play a ton of FIFA last year, but I've never NOT described FIFA as end to end. Did you have a difference perspective?

I agree although I do think there is more build up play in Pes than there is in Fifa.
Isn't this basically where the lapse is in defensive gameplay?
I'm about the least qualified person to talk about football tactics, but I feel like when I'm watching real matches, and watching PES unfold, this is the major difference. The midfield play is really loose by default. The DMFs engage but the CBs seem to leave all sorts of room for the attackers.
Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, because again, I'm just learning to break this stuff down.
Def a fair assessment, luckily you can adjust the defensive line height in your tactics or even on the fly.
The thing I like about PES is that tactics matter and people actually use them vs other users as opposed to FIFA where you make your player subs and go right into the game. I can't remember the last time I stopped a game mid-match in FIFA and adjusted my tactics.

Is it also fair to say that while I can adjust my tactics, this AI is still going to leave all this space, because their defensive lines are set there by default?

While that is fair to say, the good thing about PES is that you can adjust the tactics for all teams before starting the match and they will take those tactics into the match.
Also, if you have 2 controllers, you can use one to adjust subs/tactics for the opposing team right before kickoff.

yes, but to play an ML you should have fixed all the tactics of your whole OF to have something of playable and more close to reality, the gap between defense and midfield are due the bad placement over the field of the midfielders .. that goes towards the vanishing of midfield's battles, raising def line is not enough to fix them , IMO in 2017 they totally wrong the defender zone limit, they should have the chance to be more high on the field without change their role to some midfield one . and the defense line only goes up when the balls reach the in the attacking third before you have too many space and an absurd gap.
Watching some of the last video of gamescom where someone play versus borussia controlled by cpu the whole match seems played on a ping pong table. midfield should shield the defense (at least one player) not press high and lose the track of the opponents players.
Seeing video of 2018, it about tactis doesn't seem to have any new relevant change (i only hope that wingback and defend features could make difference).
anyway is too early to judge the game , but i don't think to be wrong

From what I've heard about gamescom is that the tactics were locked so they could not be adjusted. I'm going with being able to adjust them, the ping pong style will be corrected.

Definitely agree with you on the gaps. It's way to easy to get the ball from your midfield to your striker/CF with the default setups/tactics. Even though I hate the idea/concept that all teams should defend the same way (condense space/banks of 4/etc...) I'd rather have it that way than the current setup.
PES has a tendency to be very rigid with tactics. You set a team up to play long ball and that's all they'll do even though there are other ways to advance the ball.
There needs to be a little give & take when it comes to tactics.
Great point kilay. Hope to see you around these parts more often.

Fifa w/ heavy slider adjustment is a lot less end-to-end than PES. Especially when you play full-manual and legendary. This is bc in PES space is conceded too easily. In Fifa the pitch size is smaller and the defenders do a better job of making common sense footballing decisions. Hence in Fifa, a tighter pitch makes unlocking the defense much more challenging bc there aren't as many lanes. In PES there are so many lanes open that it's a joke. Matt10l did a good job of explaining this in one of his videos.
However, I do realize a lot of people are more casual and aren't really bothered by this. Especially some in the PES media propaganda section.

    thnks ..
and talking about Dortmund i forgot to mention that in attacking phase almost all the midfileders point too often towards the box and no-one stay at playmaking line, so another gap between def and mid line.
I don't know why they have locked the tactics, to avoid what?

Very good question on the tactics, I have no idea. I saw it on a report and a Q&A someone did after they played at gamescom. He said tactics were locked but unfortunately nobody followed up and asked more.
    They do it on purpose.
Bhatti told one of the guys on the Footy United Podcast that they want you to play the game initially as they intended it.
Not sure I agree or like that but I can kinda understand it.
I played PES 17 all year, and I only really started enjoying it a few months ago when I switch to +1 speed and manual passing/shooting on Top Player. They really need to sort out the passing assistance. I'm not even sure why they have 4 assistance levels when even level 1 assistance is so OP that it's boring.
+1 speed and manual passing was vital to cut down on end-to-end for me tho.

sorry, but i don't think that a game (beta or demo that is) where you can't change tactics could be as they intended. Instead for a customer understand what you can tweak in a game based on football (and then on tactics) is vital, Usually i love read manual to understand what i can do in a game (i remember piggyback strategy guide of 2007) , i wonder how they can explain the balance/budget buggy system of 2017 (indeed the dind't explain nothing nowhere , neither in the manual neither in game help) but i have lost any hope , Konami (il)logic is not for me. :)
But i have yet pre-ordered the game, i'm on PC and this edition could be the one for us (PC users) , hoping to haven't too many troubles with modding.

That is a really bad video to use when trying to rate PES. It looks like the guy controlling the defense was running away from the ball on purpose.
If you really hate PES that much, maybe you should stick with FIFA?
Also for 2018, the demo is not like the final product according to Adam and developers. Also according to Adam, it is not fair to judge the game based on videos watched. The feel of 2018 is so different you have to actually play it to realize it. Obviously you can choose to say he's lying but after listening to a 2 hour podcast with him talking about the new game, I'm willing to give Konami the benefit of the doing this season. For once they are very open about discussing the game and seem very confident.

Why PES sucks. Watch from 6:38 of this video to 6:50. Count how many one touch passes INSIDE the BOX! LMAO. Just waiting for the pes authoritarian "press" to tell me the magic of this in a podcast.

No, from 6:38-6:50 he wasn't running away. He was trying to press. But the positioning and spacing and awareness is so poor you are able to one touch pass freely inside the box.
And brother, I played the beta. It feels just like the videos. Bhatti is paid to sell the game. And he gives access to those in the press that will help him sell the game. It's the media kissing up for access phenomena. And anyone who questions this is crushed. Fun, right!
Im usually very skeptical with games especially sports where AI matters. PES actually looks quite good this year, last footy game I liked was PES6. Tried fifa couple times but it doesnt do it for me... May finally get into PES this year, patiently waiting for demo now :)
Indeed it looks really good past couple of years. I've been pes fan since PES3 and still love playing PES6 or WE9LE which those 2 IMO was best football games out there. After "new-gen" pes2008 game was going downroad to me until PES2016. This year game looks really great, player looks and feel very realistic, really like new GK animations, but can't stand crazy balls they catch in air that should be punched in real life
