Tom Brady has completely changed his mind and is now strongly supporting the New England Patriots for Super Bowl LX. Before that, he said he wasn’t rooting for his old team. The quick change seems to have happened after former teammates criticized him heavily.
Brady, who is now 48 years old, showed his full support for billionaire owner Robert Kraft on Instagram. After going to a pre-Super Bowl event with Kraft, Brady shared a photo of them together with a clear message: “You know I got your back RKK – Get that 7th ring so we can match.” He also tagged the Patriots in the post, making it obvious he had changed his mind about staying neutral this weekend.
According to the Daily Mail, the drama started when Brady made a shocking statement. He first said he “doesn’t have a dog in the fight” for the big game in Santa Clara, where Mike Vrabel’s Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks. He tried to explain that he’s just in a different part of his life now, going through new chapters from Michigan to his 20 years with the Patriots, his three years in Tampa, and his current work in broadcasting and as a Raiders owner.
Brady’s former teammates pushed back hard against his neutral stance
Since Brady won six of his seven Super Bowls with the Patriots, his neutral position upset New England fans and the legends he used to play with. Two-time Super Bowl winner Asante Samuel was especially disappointed. He called out Brady on social media, gave him the nickname “Flaw A Brady,” and suggested Brady might be jealous of the team’s current success.
Samuel said he was “highly I mean highly disappointed” that Brady wasn’t rooting for his “ex teammate, Mike Vrabel who is about to do something special.” He even said he was “going ape s—” about the whole situation. The public criticism from former teammates isn’t uncommon in sports, similar to how Grizzlies management recently handled Ja Morant’s situation.
Vince Wilfork, another Patriots legend, also demanded loyalty from Brady. He said that if you call yourself a “Patriot for life,” then “you know what it is.” Wilfork was clearly upset by Brady’s response, telling him, “Don’t give me that political bullc—.”
Even Rob Gronkowski, Brady’s favorite target in both New England and Tampa, shared his thoughts. When asked why Brady wouldn’t root for the team, Gronk said Brady might be jealous: “Because he probably wants to be the quarterback. He’s that competitive. He wants to be the guy in the Super Bowl right now.”
It looks like all the criticism was enough to make Brady change his mind. Celebrity relationships and public feuds often play out in unexpected ways, much like Taylor Swift’s alleged response to Travis Kelce’s ex. Now, with support from the franchise’s biggest star back in place, current Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is trying to become the first Patriots QB since Brady to win a Super Bowl ring. The team is going after their seventh championship, and Brady is now backing them.
