OOTP 27’s New Trade AI Already Looks Like a Massive Upgrade

A vast improvement!

Out of the Park Baseball 27 is shaping up to be a great game, and early beta impressions give us a pretty clear look at one of the biggest upgrades to the series this year. The trade engine has been completely rebuilt from scratch, with much better AI trade logic. Here’s how the development team initially described the change:

“So in 27, the AI does a better job deciding whether they are buyers/sellers/on the fence, and uses factors like players they would shop, players they might need, strengths, weaknesses, etc., to pair teams a lot more effectively. This isn’t every trade that will occur, but closer to the trade deadline, it is the primary type of CPU-to-CPU trade, so you’ll see a much more realistic trade deadline.”

Now that we actually have a better look at how the trade AI works, we can confirm it finally feels like real general managers are running the show.

How Trade AI Has Improved In OOTP 27

The biggest change in OOTP 27 is that AI teams now operate and make moves based on actual needs. This context-aware decision-making is more robust than just chasing the highest-rated player available. You’ll see that AI trade moves depend on current standings and specific positional weaknesses. For example, a contending team might add a starting pitcher if its rotation is thinned out by injuries. It’s not just stacking talent for the sake of it; it’s fixing a specific problem that costs games for the CPU team.

Another example would be if a team’s right field production isn’t up to snuff, they’ll actively seek out a right fielder. Again, this is not just adding a bat, as this fixes a glaring hole in the team’s lineup. This type of context-driven behavior is what fans have been asking for. In older versions, trades often feel random or too easy to exploit. Now it appears that teams will consider weaknesses, standings, and market conditions before pulling the trigger. Will it be perfect? Trade AI is rarely flawless in most games, but it’s a huge step up this time with OOTP 27

A Much More Immersive Franchise Experience

OOTP 27

For most of you who indulge in long-term saves, this change is going to make things feel a lot more alive. Hopefully, we don’t have to deal with the CPU making weird moves anymore and can actually see the reasoning behind most of the moves. A team in a wild-card spot might suddenly load up on pitching if its staff is ranked 15th in runs allowed. Similarly, a contender might add a designated hitter if their current guy is having a down year. These are the strategic, narrative-driven trades that can make the season feel more like real baseball.

Of course, it also opens up a better strategy for you as a player. You’ll have to plan around market sentiment, timing, and rival needs instead of spamming the trade block for a miracle. The game also promises dynamic weather, updated player models, and plenty of UI optimizations to improve the experience. If you’ve had your hands on the game, we’re interested in what you think about all these improvements.
