‘Officially jobless': Travis Kelce reveals his post-NFL plans are already in motion, and have been for years

He seems to be a natural.

Travis Kelce is talking to major networks and streaming services about his future career, but this isn’t anything new. A source told People that the 36-year-old NFL star has been having these talks for years. These discussions aren’t changing his mind about whether he will retire from football or not.

Kelce is thinking about whether he wants to come back for his 14th season in the league. The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t make it to the playoffs this year, which means Kelce is facing his first long offseason in ten years. After the team’s last game on January 4, he told reporters he would spend time with the Chiefs organization, attend exit meetings, and figure things out with his family.

When asked when he would make his decision, Kelce said it could happen quickly or he might need more time. He mentioned that last year’s decision was easier. “I am officially jobless,” Travis joked during a recent episode of his podcast New Heights. “Actually, this is my only job.”

Entertainment industry sees Kelce as a natural talent

While thinking about his football future, Kelce has been building up his entertainment resume. He hosted the game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? and made a memorable appearance during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Swift is now his fiancée, and the couple is planning to settle down together.

People in Hollywood have praised Kelce for his natural charisma. He appeared in Happy Gilmore 2 last year, and director Kyle Newacheck told People that Kelce was fantastic and a hard worker. The director said Kelce is very charismatic and wanted to do right by the film. Other NFL stars have also been exploring entertainment opportunities, including Tom Brady’s recent commercial appearance that sparked fan reactions.

Kelce also got good reviews for his role in Ryan Murphy’s show Grotesquerie. His co-star Nicholas Chavez said Kelce handled the acting material like a professional. Kelce’s acting skills first got attention when he hosted Saturday Night Live in 2023, just weeks after the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII.

SNL alum Tim Meadows praised Kelce’s hosting job, saying he did great and was really funny. The source told People that Kelce has been talking with every major streaming service, including Netflix, and every major network for several years. These ongoing discussions show that Kelce has been planning his post-football career for a long time, no matter when he decides to retire.

As NFL players transition to new chapters, fans are buying memorabilia from stadiums to commemorate their favorite teams and moments. Kelce’s next move will likely generate similar interest from his supporters.
