NHL 94 Rewind - Out Today, Look In Store to Download (If You Pre-Ordered)

Not going to lie, I didn’t really pay enough attention to realize I had to download a separate application in order to actually get NHL 94 Rewind, so consider this a PSA for any other fools like me out there. As of today, you can download NHL 94 Rewind on the PS Store or Xbox Marketplace.

This is a free download if you pre-ordered NHL 21, but otherwise there is no current way to snag the game. This could change at some point, but as of now EA has no plans to make it available any other way.

UPDATE: NHL 94 Rewind will be available for all in early December. Unsure if there will be a cost associated with it or not.

Here are a couple other notes on the game for those who are interested:

  • Uses current-day rosters rather than rosters from ’94.
  • The rosters will not be updated as of now, so the free agency class here is mostly not accounted for right now.
  • There is no online multiplayer.
  • There is no season mode.
  • The ratings are different from the ones in NHL 21 because there are no other leagues to worry about here.

How is everyone liking it so far?

Is it just me or is there a slight delay in the sound when shooting, passing, puck hitting the glass etc. Seems off and detracts from the experience.

I don't see it yet - did you need to do something to load it? I did pre-order the game.

It looks like sound is off when there are two sound effects in the same time, like they can't overlap.

That could be it, after playing a little more (and testing it side by side with my Mega Drive version) there's definitely and issue. Doesn't exist in the original version on the Mega Drive, sound is fine there.

Man, I'd love a season mode. I might* check it out though

NHL95 was NHL94 with season mode, never understood why NHL94 gets so much press when NHL95 was a better game!

didnt they do this a few years ago?* and no season mode?* wth!?* u can only do exhibition games?

What they did a few years ago with Nhl 94 anniversary mode was put a nhl 94 gameplay mode in one of their games (nhl 14 I think) but the graphics and presentation were the from the current game. As to season mode, the original nhl 94 did not have that either and they're decribing this as rhey original game only with the updated rosters.
Played a game last night against the CPU.  The camera seemed to be zoomed in more than I remember it being.  Playing this against the CPU was fun, but I'd really want to play more if there was online multiplayer.     I'm certainly not a programmer but I don't think that would've been a difficult thing since the main game is online.  Just wishing it had online play.

No it wasn't. They changed graphics and gameplay from the originals (EA Hockey, NHLPA93 and NHL94)
However. NHL Hockey on PC (which is the PC version of NHL94) has full season mode and rosters with four full lines. Also NHL95 on PC uses the same base engine NHL Hockey did. They are more "sim" compared to the genesis version but are very good games.
So if you want NHL94 with season mode check out those PC games.

lol...not even close to being a better game. NHL 95 was easily the worst game out of the first 5 releases. The skating was horrible and the sound of the skating was worse.
NHL '93 was the king.  It had the fighting with head-bleeding.  I think they took out fighting all-together for '94 ... also '93 had a season mode, the megadrive cartridge had that battery thing in the top right that saved all that stuff

I've got NHL95 on the Mega Drive and it clearly does have season mode. I also have NHL95 on PC via emulator which is very different as you say.

It had a playoffs mode only (1-game or best of 7) that was saved on the battery.
The first EA NHL game with a season mode was NHL 95.
My first two hockey games were Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel on my Dad's NES. My second hockey game was NHL 99 on the N64. Trying to play NHL rewind was painful for me lol. I get that it's a nostalgia-trip, but man oh man I don't find it to be even remotely fun. I will go back to NHL Hitz 02 or 03 if I want to experience my own nostalgia-trip worth taking haha. Glad some people are enjoying the blast from the past, but I am just too young to appreciate it!

Where did I say NHL95 on genesis/megadrive did not have season mode?
What I said was that the only games based on the NHL94 engine and graphics that have season mode are those two PC games. NHL95 on consoles does not reuse the old engine (however the PC version did). For the consoles 95 was a "new game" that changed too much in the wrong direction in my opinion except that the addition of a season was awesome.
However to all you NHL94 n00bs, the magic of NHL94 lies in playing with friends. If you play it single player it gets stale pretty fast as you get good at it. Me and my friends have had tournaments on this game for 25+ years and it's still so much fun. It's something in the simple mechanics and the player separation that make the games so memorable.
