  1. Wow. I wonder if their sales weren't good? I figured they were doing well with community response about 'preordered' everywhere.
Also, I want my $10 back lol

Nah, it has to be doing fairly well in US, since in Australia, it cracked top 20 online sales on PSN. It wasn't even CLOSE in the last 3 iterations of the game. They're just enticing the people who are still on the fence or annoyed with the other title

Good to hear! Solid move, except it makes me not want to pre order anymore.

Just picked mine up...good deal in my opinion. Very intrigued by the WNBA teams and The One career mode.
Hopefully updates can improve the biggest issues and glitches.

Also, if you initially choose shipping it will then give you an option to save another $1 by switching to store pickup.
I want $11 credited back now.

This game has been out for less than a month and it's already taking a $30 price drop.  That can't be good.  The NBA season hasn't even started yet. By All Star break, this game might be $5. It might be time for EA to kill this franchise.  NBA Street or Fight Night are sounding pretty good right about now.

As much as I would love a new NBA Street or even a new Fight Night I don't want EA giving up on Live at this point. Gameplay wise this is arguably the best Live ever, it would be a waste to throw it all away now. I'm sure sales aren't great but I'd be surprised if they are any worse than Live 16 or 15.

No way it's doing worse than Live 16/17. I counted more pre orders on this site than those games sold.

This is funny. I woulda been even more mad if I had did the preorder @ BB because I considered this as a side to 2K18 but changed my mind and only got 2K18 because I felt I wouldn't play Live in lieu of 2K18.
Still giving mad props to EA for not dropping a dud this time around. I really enjoyed The One in the demo and woulda go Live just for that.

Two major retailers is bad enough, that we know of at the moment.
They should have priced it $29.99 from day one and gone the 2k5 method of a good game for a low price to get people to try it out.
Saying the game sucks due to the price is stupid though.
The game is worth $50-$60 but due to the last few years of bad games they need to build trust up but letting people try it out. The demo is good but a full game at discount is as good if not better than an ad campaign.

It was discounted to $40 pre order with a demo beforehand. Not bad at all. Considering the competition was going for $60-$150 for their game.

It's on sale for $30 at GameStop as well.
I've actually got a $15 trade in and $10 in credit that I just might use.
Edit: Traded the games and got it used for nothing out of pocket.

has anyone heard how long it'll last for? I know the article says unknown, but not sure if any other news came out
Edit - Traded in GTA V(never play it) and got it for $7. Might as well
The game is worth it just for the WNBA and the One alone.
EA needs to stop trying to compete with 2K like releasing the game on the same day. It's stupid. They have made improvements and all but they need a different strategy next time if there is a next time.
The sales cannot be worse than 16. No way.
Ouch.. I cant think of one basketball game that had a $40 preorder price go full $60 at retail, to 3 weeks later selling for $30. Also have a dang survey before the NBA season even starting, in less than a month on the shelves.
Le'ts not even discuss that they've had to pull resources from Madden and I think Fifa to fund this game. As much as people harp on VC, that game is profiting on ROI. Lut isn't going to generate revenue to keep this thing afloat. NBA Live is a money pit. At some point they're gonna have to start monetizing modes or take this game out back and Ol' Yeller it.. it's due. 5 years of T&E with this franchise..:34:
Glad they have a demo I can mess around with. Any money I would've possibly spent on this went to Lost Legacy and Hob. Choices for comp in NBA games :waytogo:
This cheap when the game has only been out for a month can not be a good sign of its sales. I hope the game can sale enough for nba live 19 to be a thing. I didn't get NBA live because the franchise mode is to messed up with having really bad sim stats/standings and no trades or injures. I got NBA 2k18 and it is amazing maybe the best sports game ever made but I thought nba live from playing the demo was a big time improvement and a good foundation they could build on going forward and competition is always a good thing to have.
Picked the game up! Hopefully once the season starts, frequent roster/art updates and synergy start rolling, especially with the lack of roster editing. If they have a consistent/efficient update system, this game might be worth its original price tag!

do you think this is the end of the series? I mean. EA has unlimited money, so it's not that they can't try again, but will they if tehy are losing money, the high ups will determine that, not the DEVS, i'm sure the DEVS would like to keep going...
I respect being upset at the price drop if you paid full retail. I was one of the $40 pre-orders.
With this being said, they're probably trying to drum up some sales during last week of pre-season. Also, most dev costs are sunk at this stage (sans mid-season updates and patches). It would be foolish to not try and make some bank...then likely have the price creep back up, slowly, once NBA fever is in full force. Non sports game do these ups/downs all the time.
Honestly? I'd be thrilled if this drop drums up more peeps like you who buy it. It's a solid game, and great competition to 2K. It's worth the full retail price, IMHO, and even more so at half it.
And overthinking the one question survey is a fool's errand. They simply want to see if current players are happy with the product. I only wish they would've had more questions.
Solid deal.  I've been playing Live more than 2k so far this year.  They've made nice adjustments via patch and I honestly just can't stop playing 'The One'.
Glad to hear that they're at least making some money this year, I'm excited for Live '19.

Comments about sales figures are speculative; NPD has not released its sales figures yet for these products. Amazon charts provide ratio/rank, but that's about it.
There's little to no info on how long the EA/NBA license extends to, let alone the costs incurred to maintain it. As long as they have it, they'll try to maximize it.
EA most certainly does NOT have unlimited money. They are primarily a publisher and distributor, and do not develop games, in most instances. Let alone being publicly traded (requiring careful P&E decision making). They do not pull resources from any product to support another. They are on separate development/production schedules and profit lines. Madden quality is not correlated even one iota to another EA Sports title.
Related, this being the first price drop of its kind (timing or otherwise) for a basketball game is a bit peculiar, being there's only been one consistent title for the past 10 years. Now NBA Live's been a train wreck WRT to QA/QC and deliverables. And it's pricing structure this year is head scratching (why not simply keep it at $40, period?). But it can't be 'unprecedented' is there's no precedent.
The harsh reality is this a good game with a much bigger brother. Unfortunately, it's expensive to maintain this license...but not impossible (see: NBA Playgrounds) to secure profit. Will they sustain this effort? As long as they can produce any semblance of profit, yes. Will they outsell NBA 2K? Never.

You're wrong here. Its been said from EA and other sources they pulled $ from Madden and/or Fifa to fund Live.
I don't mind being wrong, just please share the link.* I'm curious as to their official verbiage. Not 'sources.'
I ask as in ~15 years of writing game reviews, I've never heard of a publisher openly admitting such a decision.
I just picked the game up 2 days ago for the full 60. Lesson learned I should've waited

Happens to me with EVERY damn game I buy! No way of knowing they would have a price cut, one would even be available in physical copy at reduced price...and it doesn't make the game any less meaningful to you.
I'm just quoting back my better half when she gifts me games. Which then go on sale ASAP. And she conveys the above. :)
I’m pretty sure NBA Live mobile funded NBA live a good amount if not almost solely. With that said, maybe they exceeded a predetermined price recoup point, earlier than expected, with their “ new” product, and decided to foster good will with the fans and prospective buyers by extending their “ reduced price” advertisement campaign with us to get it into more hands. It doesn’t have to be doom and gloom. (Half full approach). It was considered “doom “ previous releases though.

Considering this is EA, that is a mighty half full glass.
I only understand it (assuming the sales weren't bad) if they are trying to just get it in as many hands as possible and capitalize on the current gaming market being so community based. YouTube has such a big influence on these games nowadays it's crazy.

I think some people don't understand that this is a sale, not a price drop.
Most places are still selling it for $60 from what I've seen. (saw it at walmart for $60)
Madden is on sale at Amazon for $40. That doesn't mean the Madden ship is sinking.
I think it's safe to say this game will sell many more copies than 16. They aren't trying to beat 2K in sales. The know, and have always known that isn't gonna happen.
One of the most important things for EA and Live this year is the critical praise. People love "The One" and that will become the identity of the series.
Don't think it's going away anytime soon.
I can't believe that after 5 pages of comments following my post, people are still claiming that the sales mustn't be great. It cracked the top 20 in Australia?! It had enough trouble in America that there were barely a few hundred over here
The game must be doing pretty alright, at least

I know right. Top 20 in Australia doesn't sound very impressive to me. Call it what you want, games just don't take $30 price cuts less than a month after release. Including $20 off for pre-orders.

They matter plenty when the game barely registered outside of American soil, and it's last 3 games didn't do too hot in America to begin with. Do you see the argument i'm making??

Glad that ea came to their senses, $30 is a good and fair price for this game. But I'm guessing that means for them to do this so quickly that sales are poor.

    Your assumption is incorrect.
