Next week before we even get *info* on gameplay? That makes me uneasy...

Yeah but at least we have an idea of what to expect and when instead of going off "well they have to tell us something eventually right?"
At this point I'm happy that we won't have to rely on completely random Tweets.
Man they better come out with ESPN license and or something brand spanking new...cause if it's the same ol....
    This board will 🔥 🔥 🔥 lol😬
Hahaha at this point I can only laugh at the incompetence. 2k hands down has the worst marketing in the industry, bar none. It’s a joke and I’m sure they claim vast improvements with thousands of new scans, animations etc. but it’s clear this game will just be more of the same with nothing new. No special 75th anniversary mode or focus. It’s time for EA to come back and push these guys to do better.
Idk if I should not be concerned about this
I remember the last NHL from 2k wasn't confident enough to release info until after it was released and fans was skeptical too come to find out it really was a dud
2k and NHL was no more after that.
EA did the same thing with it's last March madness game
The only difference is NBA 2k gonna continue to make future releases

So……..I wonder what week play now online will fall under ???!
We'll find out about PNO the day we buy it, lol. Well, not me. I'm riding NBA 2K20 until the servers are turned off.

I'm always in favor of competition and I thought Live was shaping up with 18 and 19 but I don't know why anyone still has faith in a series that is basically its own worst enemy. EA is responsible for Lives lack of success as much, if not more so, than 2K. And during Lives most recent run I'm not sure the "competition" forced 2k to do things any differently except for maybe with the online mode offerings, which a lot of people argue is what's hurting 2k's sim gameplay.

Exactly. There's competition and there's being a threat to the crown...and then there's the participation trophies.
like most on here am not a big fan of the marketing department..but I have learned that no amount of kicking and screaming will change anything..for me it is what it is
but no shade or disrespect to anyone, but I am still not okay with paying $70 US dollars for a video game, much less for a sports game at that...
i bought nba 2k22 next gen; that was allegedly "BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP"... only to simply feel like the extra cost did nothing to justify what should be a better experience which conveys the demand for extra charges to stalemate cost of production.
but what can I say, I have been hardened by 2k and the marketing which is never a true 1:1 correspondence to actuality: FOOT PLANTING or DEFENSE HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPORVED!!!!!!!! sounds familiar ???
my park should be free to play if u ask me...call me old-school but dang it fellas I just wanna play NBA basketball mein, it was hard getting it at $60 what can 2k do to convince me I can get it at $70

I mean... That's not only cynical but it's also really not true. Every 2k I've played (starting with 16) has been at least a little different in significant facets of the game.

It's a vicious cycle. Complain about the marketing, when we get the info it will be the same old "footplantinG", complain some more, buy the new 2k on release day, log 100's of hours on the game while complaining how its the worst 2k ever. rinse , repeat.

Competition is good and NBA Live had it’s glory days for sure.

Let's be honest here if Live came back would you buy it? I won't unless it's good and has shown improvement. Live was around 14, 15, 16 and 18-19 didn't do numbers and barely if at all threatened 2K they continued to do the same things and Live didn't force them to change at all.

2K may have stolen the shot meter by the hand from Live .

I might if the MyPlayer experience is like in 18 and they’ve really taken the time to give this baby some more modes, maybe some extra commentators and basically do it right. EA has been quite lazy with it but at some point they will be back and if they want to make money they need some serious investment like in the 2000s.
2K has classic teams, WNBA, but there’s plenty left. If they think outside of the box and somehow manage to have a street mode that is basically it’s own NBA Street within their game, then they have something BIG. Or really have college fully fleshed out as well as the G-League, practice mode, maybe online tournaments.
For the street mode they could really hype it up by securing rights to AND1 and certain street legends like Skip 2 My Lou, Hot Sauce etc. Have a league where you go on AND1 tours around the world. They could either double down on it being a separate mode w/ the crazy moves and dunks flying around the court or same playing style to the rest, though ability to just do flashy moves while travelling should of course be an option.
FIBA license and fully playable Spanish and Turkish leagues would be amazing. 2k dabbled in this, but it was a hot mess. They could incorporate this into myplayer mode where you create a player and choose a path: street, college, FIBA or G-League. All can lead to the NBA.
Authenticity would be cool too, expanding on it’s ESPN license as well as the rights to the arenas likeliness like MSG. They could truly invest in making arenas look 100% authentic including the music played and noises from the PA etc. 2k has really not managed to do that.
Another area they could look at is the All-Star weekend, Olympics / international teams, 3 on 3 and maybe try to get a deal with the Big3. I’d definitely be intrigued with having a true street mode and or AND1 tour, FIBA leagues or the Big 3.
There’s tons of options and it’s too much to ask of 2k to go all in on any of these except for NBA Playgrounds which they could have as part of the regular game w/ many more legends, playstyles, courts etc. If EA takes this seriously, then we really could have them pushing 2k to the next level.
We get information on when we will receive information about information.! I'm not excited! I am a 2K guy and I am now becoming restless. I am bored with sports gaming these days. I long for that feeling I had when we had seasonal jitters due to options. At one point, we had:Nba Live, 2K, Shootout, In the Zone, Nba All Star Basketball,  NCAA Basketball, College Hoops and maybe some others I can't remember.  Now, we have nothing. Just one option. This is crazy.  2K is still king, but how many different ways are you going to deliver the same product with a few additions. At least even out the options. How can you give me a MY Player mode with a player creation with 8 different body types but then give me a half-assed player creation mode. Thank you for bringing back tat's though. That helped. The lack of body options can get stagnant. I like the team creation options and customization options. I just never feel like created teams intergrate properly. You are not really branding a team. Core gameplay is great, yes, options are great, yes. But you will never run your fastest times in an unopposed race.
Marketing for this game is getting worse, every year.
I'm not all that surprised, to be honest.
Still - We'll see what they have to say, and go from there.
I'm a sports gamer with a new next gen console. 2k is one of my favorite franchises. I don't play sci-fi and any of those futuristic games. What I'm saying is...I didn't spend all of this money on this console just to let it collect dust. So unless 2k comes out with information that they stripped down Franchise Mode or when gameplay videos come out it looks like NBA Elite 11...I'll be getting this game period.
I'm pretty positive that a lot of people who are complaining will still be getting it to. That's just the way is rolls.

Honestly it’s not about the money so much to me. It’s time invested. I’m strictly offline MyNBA and have put SO much time OCD fine tuning my rosters, creating Jordan color ways that aren’t in the game, editing every player to personal perfection, that I have to weigh if doing it all over again is worth it.
I would hate to do it all over again. So the new game has to pull me in with some changes I can’t refuse to make it worth it. And since all their focus is online I have doubts they will. Graphical improvements seems nearly non existent. Improving Bulls reds and Lakers yellows WOULD be enough for me but I’m not convinced the changes I’ve seen so far look fundamentally altered in that regard to make it worth it.
Fixing defense would make it worth it. But it would have to be a REALLY fixed defense like improving CPU AI and generating switches and double teams on hot scorers so I don’t have to go into the other team and do it manually (making defense more “skill based” as they said, is the opposite of what I’m looking for. I just want it to work). Bringing back the views of the city (immersion) during broadcasts can’t help make it worth it. Pre game show being brought back would be cool. A better Jordan face scan would really do the trick.
But other than that, I dunno.
The fine print “ dates are subject to change” could be something good or bad. But with this pandemic surprised they didn’t delayed the game!

I feel the same because when you think about it this version of 2k was totally developed during a pandemic where last year's game I'm sure was developed mostly before the pandemic hit, so there is no telling how creative they had to be to get this done for this gen and last gen version of the game. I just hope it isn't a buggy mess on release.
Let's face it, in a 2 week's time we will be seeing a lot of "This is 2K21.5" and "That sounds nice, but we'll see when the game comes out" etc....The info/clips we get will only say so much, even for us that enjoy 2K.
For those truly on the fence, I think 2K has made it easy for you to make a decision this year. Hold off on purchasing and see if the things you were looking to be addressed, got addressed. I know we all love some basketball, but sometimes its best to hold off so you're not regretting your purchase.

It can't be helped because it's just how people are, but anyone who is concerned by the short marketing cycle, and still buys the game on day one, and then melts down over bugs or features that need more tuning is a bad actor.
So we get information on 3 game modes the week of release. I knew the marketing was trash buy not literally sh*t
Mynba not looking to good. I just pray they changed scouting a little and redid draft classes. Been the same ish for yearsssssss
What’s the difference from knowing info about a game 3 *months or 3 days before release? *U still can’t play or buy the game until it’s released lol
i will never get this complaint. Because u do know u can wait until the game released to decide if it’s worth it or not*

This. Every year the marketing gets worse, every year we complain about it, every year we are fooled into thinking there's a direct correlation between marketing and the various dev teams that put a cycle of work into the new game.
Even speaking as a strictly MyNBA (online and off) user, the game has gotten better in various ways each year.
I get the frustration, but the whole tHeReS nO nEwS sO tHeY dIdNt ChAnGe AnYtHiNg take has been proven wrong each year.
Guys like Mike, Czar, Jeff, Erick are not the marketers for the game, I promise you they aren't chillin.

I definitely agree, but it doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence nonetheless. I'm hanging onto my pre-order money until we get the Gameplay news and make a decision then, just want to make sure the big issues I had with 21 got addressed and some smaller things (like the backdoor cut mechanic that mysteriously disappeared on Next Gen) are returned

    Mbless miss you brotha
But i definitely understand the preorder or not preorder aspect of it, to me that's the only thing affected. But even with that, most consumers are going to purchase or not purchase regardless. Sports games are different in that regard than other games. There are some who buy the way I buy Madden, every couple years, some who preorder regardless, some who wait for the holiday deals, some who read impressions launch week, and I don't believe many deviate from that one way or another.
It's been a while since I've played a 2K game. This was the first game I wanted to dive into seeing the moves that happened this off-season. Even bought a PS5 hoping for something different. Sucks it won't be that way.

And I can complain all day about the lack of fixes and new features but as mostly a mynba player, just new facescans and the rookie facescans and new shoes is in reality, enough for me to buy.

You're absolutely going to have a different experience just going from last gen to PS5. Dont be discouraged by the lack of news. I'm not a MyPlayer player but this is the longest into the summer I've been playing 2k (online MyNBA) ever.
In order to play at a high level you need to look good.
This says everything about how they think about the game nowadays, this company has become such a joke...

I hope you are right. I'm more into MyLeague and them not giving that any major changes turned me off to the franchise.
I understand everyone's concern and feeling discouraged by the lack of information, but next - gen 2K was a good yet flawed foundation (much like 2K14).
The three main things I want to see is improved defensive AI (biggest weakness in the game), adding or bringing back more movement shot animations (next - gen having less than last gen which is unacceptable) and cleaning bugs/glitches in MyNBA mode.
And course, the less likely hope that 2K give us vastly improved CAP system.

Right, and the weird glitch of both teams having the same offensive setting ("score in transition," yadda, yadda).

I don't know what I was expecting, but it was probably more than what I see in the news release schedule.
Maybe they're limited by COVID, maybe there's a lot of cool new things that'll fall under the umbrella of upcoming topics. But I kind of feel like really glamorous improvements or additions wouldn't be sat upon by 2K until the week of release (in the case of franchise mode), so it doesn't feel too wonderfully promising.
I'm guessing a pandemic year would be the wrong year to expect something new & innovative (say, a mode reflecting the NBA's 75th anniversary).
We shall wait and see how things shake out, I suppose.

Defensive settings not working was the biggest issue for me

Do you mean stuff like switching defensive schemes in during-game settings or double teams etc.?
I noticed that sometimes double teams work, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes I have to go back and re set it for it to work.

I’m just hoping they’ve managed to fix/remedy defence. I just want to see better animations, improved switching, rotations, and P&R defence. That’s literally all I ask of 2K this year.
My bar is set pretty low this year following the pandemic. Working through an annual cycle, during COVID, I just don’t expect much (other than parody with last-gen minus upgraded visuals).

I might get it, but it's no longer a Day 1 purchase for me.

The only game that use to be Day 1 for me was NCAA Football just so I can add names and create players. An since the players no longer matter after 4-6 years in dynasty I can just go about my way until some finished rosters.
I don't like buying any game for $70, and the sports games never have the full roster. Now MLB the Show I don't know enough about every team roster or care so I played that on day 1 starting a season. NBA I want to have a few draft classes made and the coaches correct. I hope they fix the likeness updates so you don't need to restart a season.

I think what he means is that everyone who’s gonna get a scan has one on day 1, so you don’t have to import a facescan DNA to overwrite a CAP DNA in a MyLeague/NBA that pre-dates the added facescans. Ideally they’d assign any CAP placeholders as if they were actual cyberfaces, sothat thry can be replaced automatically by the correct facescan once available.

This is not good, 2k has not created enthusiasm for years now, perhaps because they know that their money is still earned through VCs, for us offline players this game has been heartbreaking for years and before you play it a little seriously you have to wait a few months to fix all the attributes and trends

I think the hardcore audience on OS is overstating things by a lot. It sucks they've gone away from the "deep dives" and tons of pre - release info, but clearly their core market/audience has shifted making that unnecessary.
Again, that isn't good for any of us that want to know (or see) improvements have been made.

A lot of people don't want to admit that this is how it's going to be from now on. Message board rants and name calling on Twitter isn't going to change things.
IMO 2K feels more impervious to hardcore sim/Franchise verbal pressure than EA ever has and they're right to feel that way.

    EA is not the "savior"....

It is not the savior, but it helped 2K to be better and push the envelope. The last 5-6 years without them 2K has been doing a lot changes to get more micro transactions but the gameplay hasn't evolved.
So it's gameplay week. What do you guys expect? I'm betting on more next gen sweat because nothing shows off next gen tech by having more sweat.

Gameplay trailer tomorrow, blog on thursday or friday and some actual gameplay this week but I doubt it...

I'm expecting a more updated version of 2Ks old lock on defense from around 2K9ish, IIRC.

The gameplay hasn't evolved because 2k is trying to innovate in the mycareer/Park portion of the game. I actually wish we could do without the neighborhood/city all together and have the focus go into the NBA experience.

Did it? I didn't get the impression that Live 15-19 pushed 2k at all except for maybe the online modes, which I don't think is the issue people have with 2k.
In terms of gameplay I think 2k would have progressed at the same rate with or without the most recent Live releases. It's not like 2k was making game altering improvements each year. It felt like the same exact things we've seen the last few years, refinements and building upon the previous releases which is what 2k has pretty much always done.

The gameplay has changed over there years, but it's basketball. The real game hasn't really changed that much over the years. NBA Live's existence has had very little impact on NBA 2K's development. Someone mentioned the online modes. I mentioned earlier that 2KSports may have stolen the shot meter by the hand from them. After those items, what have NBA Live done to make 2KSports even acknowledge that they exist? I swear I read somewhere that NBA Live 19 didn't even break 100K in sales.
EDIT: I can't find the article, but I know it was some crazy low number.
