  1. Yet another embarrassing display of "effort". Seriously? Face scans and myteam filth? What a joke. There's been major plaguing gameplan issues since launch that haven't been touched. The amount of people in the community that have complained about them is at least 50%. 2 months between patches and this is what is released? Contact dunk success and ability are still outrageously high. Didn't know I purchased nba jam. Player movement is still horrific even though we were told that it was completely revamped and amazing. It's exactly the same as prior versions of the game. Horrible and not responsive at all. Same Catch animations since 2k15. When has an NBA player ever caught the ball one handed without looking at the ball and then does a 360 spin in slow motion putting you out of bounds? The city is still pitch black on certain courts. Even the non pitch black courts are still dark and hard to see at times.
Same TERRIBLE contest system since 2k18. Defense has literally no mechanics whatsoever. You can play good on ball defense for a little bit but eventually the slashing animations will zoom any player any build around you. Defense consists of you just moving left and right with the offensive player and hoping to tap into him to create a body up animation. There's no real crouch. Steal attempts are laughable at best... Since 2k10 dudes look like they slipped on ice turn were kicked from behind taking you so far out of the play. I'm talking 15-20 feet away...
So many major issues that need to be addressed to make this a simulation game again but nope. Patch after patch every 2 months and we get face scans, updated hairstyles, and some myteam fixes for the virgins who play myteam.
NBA Live.. I beg you to take advantage of an insane amount of consumers disgruntled with your only competition. There's a huge chunk of potential customers to easily draw to your side. Just need to listen to the consumer and make the product that the people want!!

Calling on NBA Live to "save" the basketball world is so laughable. I don't know why dudes still cling to the hope that NBA Live is some sleeping giant that's ready to stomp on NBA 2K at the right opportunity.
I don't think of NBA Live being a savior but more along the lines of having variety. A different basketball game to play. Maybe some type of competition because let's be honest. 2K is seriously stale and does not cater to anything outside of the park. There isn't any reason why the defense is so bad, sketchy A.I., Clunky player movement, washed out colors. This is not a next gen game but more of a glorified port over. To release a patch like this is a slap in the face being that this game is suffering from a gameplay standpoint. No amount of slider adjustments can fix this game. That comes from the developers. Having so many gameplay issues and drop this type of a patch is mind boggling. I get that the park and my team are the money makers but man show some love to the guys who play the actual NBA portion of the game. That's where variety comes in. Not necessarily Live but maybe another game developer can do that right. Who knows. But right now we're at the mercy of 2K and what they determine as important when it comes to fixing their game and dropping patches. I would have loved to see a patch addressing the pick and roll defense or lack thereof. Basic things like that shouldn't even be a talking point when it comes to gameplay. I know this post is long but it's extremely frustrating that this is being ignored in favor of cosmetics or non gameplay fixes.

Perhaps...but EA is still a business. They're not going to continue to produce a losing product just to give gamers "variety".
I picked the right year to skip my first NBA 2K ever, but even if I had caved and bought it, I personally never hold grudges against the next year's version.
Something literally, not in the hyperbolic sense like gets used here, criminal or immoral would have to be done by a developer for me not give the next game a clean slate evaluation without the bitter cynicism that takes over most folks.

It's not about EA. It could be any developer who wants to make a basketball game. No one is ever going to make a perfect game but to be 20 plus years in as 2K is and still have the same issues that plagued them since 2K10 is ridiculous. Bottom line is that this game is not designed for sim anymore. It's obvious. There are some rosters sets and sliders that mask the problems but the problems still persist. I mean c'mon there is no pick and roll defense. None. How did they miss that among a bunch of other necessary things that should work. Fundamental things at that. To drop $100 on a game that doesn't work properly and not try to fix it is inexcusable.

So they have officially given up on the game and moved on to 2k22. Oh well.
At least it will be hilarious to watch them advertise basic PnR defense for next year.

Game plays pretty good for me right now, Czar already said pNr was too dangerous to attempt with a patch at the very get go.......I love they’ve made such an effort to update face scans, just a few years ago this was unheard of

Bey and Ramsey are still generic.

Both are rookies with out-of-the-box generic scans. 2K has to update their roster spreadsheet with each player's correct Face ID in order for them to properly show up. The roster team has no idea when a patch will officially release, therefore it is usually the next day before we see previous generic players updated with proper faces.
If they update the spreadsheet too soon, then you end up getting an invisible player model like (Theo Maledon on OKC was for current-gen a few weeks ago)
Both Ramsey and Bey will be fixed in tomorrow's roster update release

Crazy, isn't it? Six 'patches' and they have just completely not bothered to address it.
Calling these 'patches' is insulting also. It is a very minor art update for a few players. That does not constitute a patch.

Which most reasonable people would conclude that they can't with a patch.
I'm really hoping NBA live give me a reasons and I'm gone. This Game is miles away from Sim. Trying to fix defense is alot better then saying it will take up 3 or 4 years to get it right. We should check back in 3 years I guess.

I hope Czar can somehow give us an update on where PnR defense stands for 2K21. If nothing can be done until 2K22 then please let us know

Didn't he already say that in his podcast, that the defense had to be complete rewritten, and that he did not want to speak ill will of a former colleague.

Not really...in fact, not at all. The game 'can' be fixed. When NBA 2K22 comes out and it is, there will be your proof.
Reality is they are focused on it, rather than supporting people who paid $70 for next gen 21.

Struggle with reading comprehension there chief? I CLEARLY said that the opportunity to take huge chunk of the market (nba videogames) is astronomical. All they have to do is find a way to develop a product worth switching for. NBA live used to run the NBA basketball game world. EA is a billion dollar company. They have all the resources readily available to make a great product. But as we've seen lately, the development team is just not up to par.

What gives you such insight into the games development? If a dev says it's too risky to touch pick and roll defense in 2K21 how do you know that's not the case? 2K22 is a whole separate game, they are still developing it. There is no risk of "breaking" a product people have already spent their money on. For better or worse, 2K21 is what it is and 2K is fine with that.

That won't be proof that this game can be fixed. You do realize that there's still a difference between what can be fixed with a patch, versus what needs a completely new game right?

Yeah pretty much, and while I'm sure Czar has his own personal opinion on the matter, that's about as much of an admission that defense is a problem which won't be addressed this year that he can publicly make without jeopardizing his job at 2K.
So what I'm seeing here is that if Czar says we can't fix pick and roll defense, a fundamental aspect of basketball that's been in this series since the beginning, while not perfect by any means but was still present in the game because one guy left sound ridiculous. No one on that team can implement this? A multi billion dollar company who's been in business for decades can't do this? I'm not buying it. I guarantee that one of the selling points for 2K22 will be this awesome pick and roll defense that's been built from the ground up. Remove and repackage seems to be 2K's strategy.

Pretty obvious he doesn’t, he’s proved his ignorance on the topic numerous times in several different threads

I don't think they know how to fix the problems on next gen. Anyone who played it can clearly tell that it (gameplay) wasn't build from the ground up just copied from current gen.

I’m honestly having a blast with the next gen game. I never set my own PnR anyway.

I am enjoying 2K21 next gen as well. I play mostly MyNBA and a little MyCareer. I let the coach call the plays and run the offense unless I have a mismatch. I have seen the bad pick and roll coverage while playing my brother or one of my buddies though so I can only imagine how much it's abused online.

It always amazes me the amount of expert video game developers we have here at OS...

I'm more amazed that people believe that having money means problem can be fixed immediately.
Personally, I'm in the camp...if one of the lead developers hints that the problem can't be fixed until the next title, then I just leave it at that. Let's not fool ourselves. Unless they come out with a surprise patch that doesn't address art this late in the release, NBA 2K21 is what it is at this point.
So I'm assuming that all the players in the generated draft classes still have very slow releases then? Starting to look like they aren't going to bother fixing that.

I can understand the people who didn't get the memo, so to speak, being pretty upset that such a foundational aspect of basketball defense wasn't going to be functional for the whole cycle, but I feel really fortunate to have gotten the info so early, it was sobering, but it made my decision not to purchase much easier.
May be off subject, but I know Bolmaro received a scan a couple of patches ago. However, he's not in the main roster. Anyone know of a way to find the scan and export it? I'd love to import him into MyNBA with the scan.
    Thanks,

True. Maybe I have a negative perspective on the PnR, but I feel like it's been broke for several years in the sense that it's so easily abused. Also, I just run the freelances and quick plays. For me, being able to call for a screen is not a big deal to me. Defending it is just a chore though.

I don't know if the pick and roll can ever truly replicate real life. In real life you usually have to have amazing court vision to see all the options available after the screen
However in 2k you as a ballhandler have a view of the entire court.

People need to stop making this excuse for 2K. Of course they can put effective PnR defense in the game. Make defenders actually react to the drive instead of literally standing still and watching, for one. Make the AI capable of realizing “Oh, Curry has the ball so I should probably switch on this pick so he doesn’t get an open 3”, or “Simmons has the ball, so I should drop down to protect the paint instead of coming out to contest the 3”. Simple.
Also make help defense into something more than “corner defender abandons a great perimeter shooter to try and protect the paint while the rest of the defense just leaves that shooter wide open”. The AI should know how to prioritize which players to leave open when rotating to help, and there should be a second/third/fourth rotation on the perimeter so that we actually see plays that revolve swinging the ball around to multiple players working for an open shot.
Still don’t know why 2k can’t update player likeness on key players. Here is some work I did to create Kentavious Caldwell- Pope and Wesley Mathews.

It's actually fun to use with layups, just needs to be tweaked for jump shots. They're just going to improve on it and bring back in a few years as a new feature.

Good. I so hated shot aiming. It just made shooting with RS so much harder overall and unresponsive at times.

The amount of money that it would take to even breathe the same air as NBA 2K. If another company attempted an alternate basketball game, they would have to come out the gate swinging, and I'm not talking jabs. I'm talking full blown haymakers, lol.
