NBA 2K21 Next-Gen MyNBA Revealed - The New Franchise Mode Combines MyGM, MyLEAGUE & MyLEAGUE Online

2K has given us their NBA 2K21 next-gen gameplay trailer, along with part 1, part 2 and part 3 of their next-gen gameplay blogs. After that, they gave us details on the WNBA MyPLAYER experience and The City.

Today it’s all about MyNBA, which takes everything the team has learned and built with MyGM, MyLEAGUE, and MyLEAGUE Online and put it all together in the all-new and all-encompassing mode.

Dave Zdyrko, NBA 2K21 senior producer, is here for the latest Courtside Report, to give us all the details.

MyNBA

Starting with NBA 2K21 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, our franchise mode has been re-branded and will now be called MyNBA. At its core, the name pretty much says it all – it’s your NBA, it’s your franchise mode, however you want to set it up. The mode has every single feature that you know and love from the previous modes, all rolled up into one where you have full control over which ones you want to turn on and off.

Let’s start things off by going through all the things that you can set up going into the mode.

MyNBA Setup Options

The first box you’ll see when you start a new MyNBA save will be the MyNBA Setup Options. Each of these, when enabled, will add new steps to the setup flow that will allow you to further customize the mode on a much deeper level. These options include: Fantasy Draft, Customize League Rules, Custom Roster, Customize League, Customize Salary Cap, Customize Simple Settings, and Customize Advanced Settings.

Fantasy Draft is pretty straightforward. You can turn this on if you want to start the mode with a fantasy draft of all the players instead of having all the players start on the teams they’ve been assigned to in the roster. It has all the customizable settings that we’ve had in the game in previous years.

Customize League Rules is the completely new feature in this batch and lets you go through and pick all the rules that the mode will start with without having to wait for the League Meetings in the offseason where you are limited to five rule changes per year. Now, you can go through and set all of the rules in each of the categories – Lottery, Standings, All-Star, Shot Clock, Foul Out, Lane Violation, Eight-Second Violation, Backcourt Violation, Playoffs, Possession Arrow, Bonus, Goaltending, Back to the Basket, Sudden Death Overtime, Free Throws, Salary Cap, Trades, Draft, Contracts, and Elam Ending (more on this later) – however you want them from the jump.

Custom Roster lets you pick between the official 2K Sports roster, 2K Sports Injury-Free rosters, or one of the countless custom rosters designed by members of the 2K community.

Customize League is where you can re-align teams, replace existing teams, or add new classic, all-time, or custom teams to the league, and – new to NBA 2K21 – remove teams from the league. Yes, that’s right – for the first time, we’re allowing you to reduce the league size from the current 30 and now you can bring it down to as low as 12. This means that instead of the 30 to 36 range of league sizes we’ve supported in the past, this year you can now have leagues that range from 12 to 36 teams. This makes it possible for users to try and recreate past seasons where the NBA didn’t have 30 teams or just have a smaller league to support a more concise MyNBA Online experience.

The last three – Customize Salary Cap, Customize Simple Settings, and Customize Advanced Settings – will add more setup option menus to the flow that will allow you to dig deeper into the intricacies of how you’d like to start the mode.

Advanced CBA Rules

This next box is something that we decided to include because we felt it was something that could be turned on or off as a group that would greatly change the overall franchise experience. Over the years, we’ve added a slew of some of the CBA’s more complex rules to the game to try and create a completely authentic NBA user experience.

While these new features have all been asked for by hardcore members of our community and have greatly-enhanced the mode, we decided that it would make sense to give users an easy way to turn all or some of these off if they felt that it made the game too difficult, as many of these rules make signing players, completing trades, and just dealing with team management a lot more complex.

When you come into the setup options for the first time, these will all be defaulted to ON because that’s the way we want most users to experience the mode, but if you want an easier time, you can quickly turn off these options as a group or individually – Dead Cap (released players counting against your salary cap if not picked up on waivers), Stepien Rule (limit on trading away 1st round picks in consecutive years), 30/60/90 Day Rules (limits on trading away recently-signed players), Restricted Free Agents (ability for teams to match offers on RFAs), Trade Finances (requirements to match salaries on trades), and Waiver Rules (requirement for 48-hour waiver period).

Role-Playing Elements

The next setup group could also have been called “MyGM Options,” but we opted to refer to it as Role-Playing Elements. This is actually an area of the game that really took a lot of the work in developing MyNBA as a whole because getting the MyGM options to play nicely with the fully-customizable and multi-team MyLEAGUE stuff took a tremendous amount of development and design work (or else we would’ve just never made MyLEAGUE and just added all the customization and up to 30-team control to MyGM back in year 2 for NBA 2K15).

Here is where you can choose to turn on or off the following – Conversations, Scoring, Skills, Tasks, and Morale & Chemistry. The conversations will determine whether or not you have the face-to-face conversations with the governor, staff, and players. This year, you can have these on or off no matter whether you’re controlling just one team or up to 36 teams – and you can even have 36 team control with conversations on for only a subset of the teams you’re controlling.

Scoring, Skills, Tasks, and Morale and Chemistry are all core components of the previous MyGM experience that can be turned on or off as a group or separately. For instance, if you didn’t like all the reading you had to do in the conversations but did like getting Tasks from the governor, staff, and players and liked being able to upgrade your GM’s skill tree, in NBA 2K21’s MyNBA, you can just turn off Conversations and turn on Skills and Tasks to get that experience. It’s all up to however you want to play!

Budget and Finances

In Budget and Finances, we have some simple options like whether or not the Salary Cap, Hard Cap, and Luxury Tax options are turned on or off, plus Price Changes and User-Controlled Budgets, which for the last generation were features that we had kept exclusive to the MyGM experience and didn’t allow for MyLEAGUE or MyLEAGUE Online.

As MyNBA is all about giving you complete control over what features are available, this year you will be able to set a team’s prices for tickets and concessions, or a team’s budgets, whether or not you’re playing the game with any GM features on.

Play With Friends

This option is pretty straightforward. When you enable this option, it means you’ll be making a MyNBA Online league, and it will have all of your customization options available to you. So, if you don’t think you can find 29 other players to fill out a 30-team league and would rather not have any teams under the management of the CPU, you can cut the league size down to as low as 12, so it’ll take less friends to fill out the league. I’ll go a little deeper into what’s new for former MyLEAGUE Online players a little later in this blog.

Automate Offseason Time Periods

The next box is for Automate Offseason Time Periods. This is really just an easy way to turn off the offseason (and have it be simulated) for users that want to keep playing regular seasons and playoffs without having to deal with the offseason. And while it can be turned on or off as a group, we also let you pick and choose to automate the periods – Retirements, League Business, Staff Signing, Drafting, Free Agency, and Player Progression – each individually.

Start From

This next one lets you determine whether the league starts from the beginning of the Regular Season or the previous Offseason. It works pretty much like it has in the past. It’s worth noting that Start from Today won’t be available at launch, as there isn’t an official start date yet for the next NBA season.

G League w/Playable Games

A subset of our franchise fan base has been clamoring for this for years and with MyNBA in NBA 2K21, we’re finally able to bring back playable G League games! If you want to include the G League in your mode, you can leave this option turned on. Otherwise, if you don’t care for the G League games, you can turn it off.

When turned on, the G League teams will play a schedule of games, and if you look at the Daily View, you’ll see the G League games interspersed with the NBA games. Or you can check out the Daily View (G League) to just see that day’s scheduled G League games that you can play or simulate with regular sim, SimCast, or SimCast Live.

Ranked

Last up is Ranked, which got us some critical feedback in the early going. This is the one option that will limit what can be customized because we’re still trying to create an experience that allows us to compare players worldwide on a level playing field.

While it’s still limited, we have expanded on the things that can be customized compared to last year, so you can tailor it to your liking more than you could before. For instance, we decided to take Actions out of the mandatory part of the Ranked experience, based on the strong response from some users. We welcome all feedback and would love to hear more about what the community would like to see out of the Ranked mode in future years.

What Are the New Features?

One of the challenges of going down this path of merging MyGM, MyLEAGUE, and MyLEAGUE Online into a single, fully-customizable MyNBA is that it took a tremendous amount of work to get all the MyGM features working with more than one team, getting things like Tasks to work without Conversations, and getting all of it to work Online.

Nevertheless, here are some of the completely brand-new features coming to NBA 2K21.

Playable G League Games

I’ve already talked about this one as part of the setup options. You can now play a full schedule of G League games in MyNBA in NBA 2K21. All the games are fully playable, but can also be simulated via quick sim, SimCast, or the interactive SimCast Live, and with all the jump-in and jump-out capabilities that you get with NBA games.

Revamped Boom/Bust System

We introduced a simple Boom/Bust system to the game last year that added a little randomness to the potential of the prospects, but have given it a major facelift this year and completely revamped it.

Younger players in the league will now have a more dynamic growth path using the Boom/Bust system. Players can have low and high-potential floors, low and high-potential ceilings, and a probability to boom, bust, or hit somewhere in between.

In addition, until age 23, we will continue to determine the player’s potential based on multiple factors to make it so that every player will still be exciting during the developmental years. The same player could have wildly different growth paths in each save, so keeping up with scouting prospects after they’re in the league will be critical to building a dynasty.

We’ve also revamped player generation to better leverage the Boom/Bust system to make for more “interesting” players to scout and further enhanced draft storylines, but as always, all of this can be edited if you want to sculpt your ideal prospects.

New Staff

We’ve added an additional Assistant Coach that you can hire and fire that has an impact on how your players perform – and will also be seen on the bench if you’re one of those franchise players that actually goes in and plays games.

2K Share Setups & 2K Share Scenarios

If you picked up the current-gen version of NBA 2K21, you’ll at least have some idea of what the latter is all about, but since we haven’t publicly spoken about them, I’ll do so now. The 2K Share Setups is a way for the community to share mode setup options. With all the customization we’re adding, we know it can be overwhelming for some, and those users will most likely just roll with the default options out of the box and play the mode in the way we feel it is best experienced.

However, this would be missing out on some potentially cool things that more ambitious community members have set up, and this is where 2K Share Setups comes in. All it takes is for one member of the community to set up the league rules, teams, rosters, etc. to put together the best possible representation of some classic past seasons – whether it be the early years of the Magic vs. Bird era, or some year in Jordan’s dominant Bulls’ reign – and if they share it here, then the rest of the community can relive these past seasons with tuning and rules that closely represent the era.

With 2K Share Scenarios, we wanted to give the community members a way to upload save progress in their MyNBAs, where they’ve set up different scenarios and challenges for other community members to try and overcome. For instance, maybe you’ve setup a scenario where you’re in control of the Clippers and down 3 games to 0 in the Western Conference Finals against the rival Los Angeles Lakers. And you want to see if other members of the community will take on the challenge of coming back from a 3-0 deficit against LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Playoff Rondo, and the rest of the Lakers crew. Scenarios like this, and whatever else the most imaginative minds within the community can create, can now be easily shared for others to play.

Tattoos

All right, this is one of those new features that isn’t exactly a new feature. Regrettably, this is something we had to remove from the game during the last generation of consoles, for the greater good of the game. With that said, I’m very pleased to announce the following: We’re finally getting tattoos back on generated players and prospects in NBA 2K21!

The tattoo system is a LOT more advanced than the one from many moons ago, and it has a base in the aforementioned MyPLAYER tattoo system. So with that, we can proudly say generated player tattoos are now officially back and better than ever!

New Slide Nav

This isn’t really a new franchise feature, per se, but it was something that was pushed hard for by Jeff Schrader and Leftos for years as something important to the franchise modes, so it’s getting included here. We’ve added a new slide nav that you can bring up while anywhere in the mode by simply flipping up on the Right Stick, so you can quick jump from one menu to the next no matter where you are in the game. And since MyNBA is such a menu-driven mode, we think this greatly enhances the user experience – at least once you get used to pressing up on the Right Stick when you want to go to a new menu instead of pressing the back button (B or Circle depending on your console of choice).

What’s new for former MyGM Players?

Because of how we melded the old modes together, I wanted you to see what you’re getting as new features based on what mode you played the most in the past. For instance, if you considered yourself a MyGM player, you’ll now have more customizable options than we’ve ever given you previously.

For starters, you are no longer limited to being the general manager of a single team. You can now choose to GM every single NBA team if that’s what your heart desires – and that’s up to 36 teams if you expand the league to its maximum, or 12 teams if you bring the league size down to its minimum.

What’s more, for the teams you control, it’s completely up to you what features are on or off on a per team level, such as – Actions, Conversations, Facilities, Prices, Budgets, Morale, Trust, Score, Skills, and Tasks. So, if you want to GM all the teams and deal with getting Tasks from the team’s governor, staff, and players from only a smaller subset of teams and actually have to load into conversations with an even smaller subset of teams, then you have full control over how you want to handle it.

And as I touched on earlier, we’ve relaxed a lot of the customization restrictions on Ranked play, so you can participate in the online leaderboards while still being able to use custom rosters and start the league with a Fantasy Draft and a few other things.

What’s new for former MyLEAGUE Online Players?

Since MyLEAGUE Online was already MyLEAGUE but online, the big addition for former players is that MyNBA Online will now be playable with the entire gambit of the GM features that weren’t available in the past.

You will now be able to play in an online league as the GM of the team, and have the ability to get tasks that you must complete from the governor, the staff, and the players. And if you don’t keep your governor happy, you can even get fired from the team you’re controlling in this MyNBA Online league, giving yourself another challenge other than competing against your friends in online games.

The new features include the following – Conversations, Scoring, Leaderboards (where you can compare how you rank against other League Members in a local leaderboard), Skills, and Tasks. And just like in the previous sections, the league can be played where each individual user can choose to play with any or all of these features on or off, so some can have the GM experience, while others don’t have to.

What’s new for former MyLEAGUE Players?

MyLEAGUE was always the fully-customizable mode, but the two things that we didn’t allow MyLEAGUE users to do in the past was use any of the GM features or partake in the budgets and finances, as we always wanted to keep those exclusive to MyGM.

However, with MyNBA, the former MyLEAGUE players can now pick and choose whether or not they wish to play with these features. If all they really wanted was the ability to get Tasks from the governor, staff, and players but not have to deal with loading into the text-based conversations, they can do that now. And if all they wanted was the ability to deal with setting ticket and vendor prices and set the team’s budgets, while not dealing with things like tasks and conversations, that’s also available. Any and all of it can be turned on or off either individually, or as groups.

Closing Thoughts

One of the main things we wanted to do with our first entry on these new consoles was to not take anything away from our franchise players. All too often, a new console generation means starting from scratch for franchise fans and having to start getting features back with each subsequent release of the game. We didn’t want to take that approach this year and with MyNBA, we have given our players everything that we had on the last console generation, plus a whole lot more.

The second main thing we wanted to do with MyNBA is lay the groundwork for the next 6+ years. We feel that by combining the previous modes into the all-encompassing MyNBA, it’ll make it easier to add features down the road. Rather than trying to split time with three different modes that have varied requirements, everything we do will be for the MyNBA brand.

To wrap things up, I want to send out a thank you to our great online community. Over the years, you have given us a tremendous amount of support, which has allowed us to continue to use development resources to keep improving our franchise modes and create best-in-class experiences. And you have continuously given us feedback – both positive and critical – that helps us try and make a better game. We on the franchise team at 2K appreciate what you have done for us, and we really hope you enjoy MyNBA… not only in NBA 2K21, but in each year after that as well!

  1. Tattoos and Playable Gleague are my two favorites so far. I love the customization options, too. We can now recreate 80s NBA basketball. I love everything I have read, next gen is gonna be dope as hell. My one negative is that they didnt say anything about a recap show or even return to an NBA.com screen with curated league info. But between the new graphics and gameplay and now these options I'll be just fine.

Well then.....my interest has finally rose from its slumber.
Custom rules...? Ability to remove teams from the league? Phew, starting to get the sweats here thinking about playing retro seasons. (Yes, I'm a miserable grandpa set in his ways)
Not sure if it's quite enough for me to pull the trigger, but it's a start.

Yeah. I'm not sure if you recall but College Hoops 2K8 had a recap show called College Hoops Tonight with Greg Gumbel and Clark Kellogg. They went over all the college basketball games with simulated highlights (there were only a handful of clips that repeated) , previewd upcoming games, and gave updates on which recruits had committed to what school. It was really well done. NFL 2K5 had one as well.

No one cares about this news. Where is the news for my career and my park?

" No One" cares? Look at the post above you.
...well...that's what you call knocking it out of the park.
Wow. I didn't think they'd be able to do all of this after reading the city thing - but they are really looking to impress.
I love reducing the teams element and controlling whatever you want. I've enjoyed some aspects of finance, but never fully understood contracts and all the restrictions. So I'm really happy I can just pick and choose what to flick on and off and just do only what I enjoy without worrying about the rest.
I'm going to create a current season as well as probably a 16-24 team classic franchise and cheat putting some favourites on other teams and filling out the benches. An example would be putting say Dan Majerle on the bench of Ewing's Nicks or Sam Cassell on Dominique's Hawks; things like that just so every team is brimming with recognizable players and personality.
In past 2k games it's been hard to customize a league (and I could be missing something) because you'd trade guys off a team and it would say you need a minimum etc. By shrinking the league you can probably make it easier to just take players and move them around. The dynamic boom/bust system sounds good too for current NBA modes and younger players too.
There is just so much going on in that post!
I'm really pumped, I'll have 2 myNBA's going and a MyCareer too it will be fun messing around with all the options, plus I like how the settings can be shared too because there are so many options some may emerge as being perfect for different people just like the roster sharing etc.
Well done, now I need to just settle down and do something productive lol
Tattoos are back for generated/created players along with G-League!

Hilariously, this is the most I've been hyped about anything 2k related in years. Draft classes going up baby!

what does Elam Ending like ?

"How it works: At the first dead-ball whistle after the time goes below four minutes in the final quarter, the clock gets turned off. At that point, a target score is set, equaling the leading team’s point total plus seven. Then, the first team to hit that target score wins.
So, if my team is up by 10 when the Elam Ending activates, I need to score seven points before my opponent scores 17. It’s still an uphill climb for the trailing team, but it eliminates the parade of intentional fouls that can make the end of games interminable free-throw contests.
What Nick taught us is that deliberate fouling happens in 50 percent of games, but is only effective 1.5 percent of the time, so fans are having to put up with a strategy that sucks up time and rarely works."
interesting... I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it in action - but it's too big of a change for to use in the 2k game atm
Wow, this is everything I could have asked for.
This a perfect blend of the myleague customization and the role playing elements of mygm. Great job, 2k!

Not a big franchise guy, especially in comparison to some of the die hard here, but this sounds incredible. I don't know what more you could ask for out of a franchise mode. Is there another sports game on the market that even comes close to this? Madden fans should send this blog to EA and tell them to take notes.
Hope the franchise guys are satisfied. I know a lot of them have been on the edge of their seats waiting for any news on this mode. Hope it was worth the wait.
    Wait wait wait.
    How was this even possible?
They used ALL their resources for MyCareer and pulled all developers to work on Forceday type fantasy modes only.
Will 2K be bankrupt soon? There may be no 2K22

Remember this years allstar game where instead of a clock in the 4th quarter they had a target score they had to reach. Thats the Elam ending.
    Tattoos back on CAPs, yay(seriously)
    G league is back. Dope.
    Gm elements implemented. Nice.
Everything I read was on point and my hype meter is through the roof. Bring on Tuesday!
For next year though, let get some myplayer/mycareer things in, such as....CAPs having sideline interviews, playoff post game interviews, rookie CAPs and players getting magazine covers/billboards/endorsements etc....practice drills to raise attributes/badges. I need these in my life!

    2K Share Scenarios!
So someone can setup everything down to detail for the 1984-85 season, upload it, and BOOM we can ALL start from that year!
    Holy ****ing ****!
I've dreamed of this since like NBA Live 2000 on PC.
Can't lie I was really waiting on something to get me hyped for next m Thursday outside of spider man, and this new MyNBA mode has done it.
Always wanted the best of my league and mygm to be combined and they have done it, round of applause for the 2k staff, at this point I wish I did pay the 100 for the ps4 version to get the free upgrade to ps5 would have been worth every penny.
Great news! Eager to try all the new stuff... ;-)
Now we just need a gameplay balanced exclusively for this MyNBA mode (for instance a shot aiming that works as designed, it is consistent and deliver a boost over shot timing or at least that it is not a handicap like right now in current gen) and we will have a blast!!! LOL
2K is amazing with the love they show for everyone. You look at Madden and it’s obvious they do not care about offline players. I haven’t been feeling the gameplay the last few years but they deserve a lot of props for this.

I wonder if they did any improvements to the generated draft classes. All these other improvements ain’t gonna mean much if we still have to depend on the community for fictional draft classes cause the 2K generated classes are trash.
Kinda sad for current gen players, they really didnt give a **** about them hah. But damn these features are amazing for franchise players.

Very, very impressed with this drop. A lot of this isn't "new" per say, but having all of everything in one place and able to toggle on/off what you want, what you don't, is a gamechanger.
Shrinking the league for retro seasons? That's going to be HUGE. Combine that with the updated customization of draft classes (tattoos are back!), the ability to change CBA rules (thereby replicating what rules were in place at the time), and the 2K Share Scenarios, and it will make retro-leagues A LOT easier to do.
I'm eager to see how seamless all this is in practice, however: 2K has had some issues in MyLeague/MyGM over the last few years at launch that sometimes take weeks/months (or never) to solve. There's a lot of crossover and combination of modes here that I suspect will result in some glitches.
Obviously, with something this ambitious, you have to allow for that -- and considering the current state of the world, you have to allow for more than usual. I'm hoping for a relatively smooth launch for this new MyNBA mode so people can really, thoroughly appreciate how crazy in-depth this mode is.
The option to customize basically everything is really really appreciated! Hope everything works unlike now, where some options just don't take effect.

Man I won’t lie...with all these new features I could see myself playing this WELL into next year. The MyLeague Youtubers and streamers who simulate seasons are gonna have a blast with the retro season thing (lowering number of teams down to 12), I love that addition. And them saying this is laying the groundwork for the next 6+ years, man I love that statement. Some on here feared they didn’t care about the MyLeague players but that was always disrespectful to the devs on this game that clearly work hard to make something for everyone. Plus that opinion also didn’t factor in how popular MyLeague simulation videos had got on YouTube.
I’m excited man. Now to get a damn PS5.

I've been thirsting for this since NFL2K5. No reason why we shouldn't have a recap show simulated stats and highlights from other games going on around the league if you are playing league games or a NBA today game. This should be a standard at this point on the PS5 and XBOX.

The key to any great Franchise Mode is customization, and 2k's MyNBA has it in spades. Gold standard!! The fact that you can cut the League down to as little as 12 should have Online League players drooling. Bravo 2k!!

Kinda sad for current gen players, they really didnt give a **** about them hah. But damn these features are amazing for franchise players.

Honestly, I'm starting to think the Pandemic just made them double down on next-gen.
This was a pretty good read, liking all they have done. Glad to hear Tattoos are back for Caps and new hairstyles. The min and max potential settings are going to make Draft Classes even more fun to deal with....I can't wait to grab a PS5 and get playing....assuming I can get a PS5 anytime soon......good stuff here though
Great job by 2k. I always wanted everything to be in one online format. 2 comments and a question.
    1. You can now have a 12 man league with no CPU teams. I am officially back doing leagues.
    2. You can be the GM of every team. Now I can make trades between the teams to keep the rosters current with the real nba.
    3. Is it now possible to set the defensive settings and coaching sliders of all teams? If i can now get cpu teams to turn the help defense slider up to 99 or make it where I can make the cpu team’s point of emphasis to protect the paint then we are good.
As someone who does 30 team control and makes all of the moves for the teams. Being able to turn off the CBA rules is going to help out a lot and remove the headaches. If your doing something like a sign and trade it should be easier to do now.
Thanks to all the 2k devs for listening to us franchise fans

I was checking on when I could pick up my preorder at walmart yesterday and it said that they weren't going to sell any non preorder ones in store on the 12th because of covid and not wanting people lining up outside their stores. Instead they are putting them online and you can buy on the 12th and then go in and pick it up right away if you get one.
There were times posted so maybe check that out. Its first come first serve though so you need to be all over the times they posted.
In regards to a post-game show, I'm sure 2K could figure this out. Currently, when we load into a game they play a hype video showing players dunking and other plays, BEFORE we play the actual game. Why not a little blurb like "In other action, the Lakers beat the Rockets, 107-95" while showing LeBron driving and dunking. Maybe show buzzer beaters for close games, etc. With the new consoles they could store a fair amount of templates and just have those highlights procedurally generated each time to try to avoid repetition
    LETS GO!!!!!
Combining MyGM and MyLEAGUE was something I put on a wishlist YEARS ago. So that and a PLAYABLE G-League (wish I said in the other thread was the one thing I was hoping for the most) are absolutely HUGE. And then Elam Ending, Tattoos on CAPs.... This is going to be AMAZING.
Consider me impressed, this actually seems like a proper step forward for franchise players. I'll not be jumping right into a next gen system from day one, due to cost considerations, but this sure makes me wish I was. And compared to so many other diminished features for offline players in other sports games, I have to give 2K kudos for keeping us in mind with stuff like this.

I wonder if they did any improvements to the generated draft classes. All these other improvements ain’t gonna mean much if we still have to depend on the community for fictional draft classes cause the 2K generated classes are trash.

    Big Facts!!!
Question is this the last great news before the release or they still have some surprises? coz they havent discuss or mention anything on previous blog of the followings:
    1. Fouls (like running for shooters) as they always past through them like ghost. (im talking about CPU not been called fouls)
    2. CPU CONSISTENT TIMEOUTS. at least 2 timeouts per quarter
    3. Adjusted shot from left to right hand (a more fluid animation or new animation and not the clanky one we have right now)
    4. New assist animation (realistically) pocket pass, drop pass, no more head pass when your 3 inch to the basket and every defender is there also.
    5. And also passing from driving to the basket this. i think there is animations here that really need to be look at, it doesn't look fluid and smooth at all. and CPU automatically change direction to still defend the catcher like a canned animation.
    6. A full edited NBA players from head to toe. because we dont want to wait months for an update.
    7. Subs rotation.
    8. Walking and standing still when dribbling and killing the time.
    9. Waving hand or hand gestures when calling plays.
    10. realistic Speed transition on fastbreak for offense and defense
    11. altercation
    12. different Flagrant fouls ( spamming steals that hit the player in head or trying to contest late and not giving space for landing )
    13. Coach running on the floor to call timeout or complain for bad call
    14. A realistic NBA replay showing highlight, fouls ,turnover in 3 views and discussing it. whether on timeouts or charity shot.
15 Player being down on the floor if ever injured or not some medic will check or player will check him.
    16. The BUBBLE????
    17. Arena and audience and sound. nothing was discuss with this also??
    18. Hair movement.
    19. jerseys or clothes having its own physics
    20. different player body types
    Thank you
To the above poster you just gotta cross your fingers on some of those. I love the combined modes BUT I was hoping for better presentation. Score ticker during games, better pre game, halftime, post game show, more immersive nba.com page. Not that Twitter crap. Better ALOT better generated classes.
The little things. Don't get me wrong though I'm excited. Myleague became a drag after awhile. With the inclusion of mygm that will make it more immersive. Hopefully some of the things on your list and mine was worked on. Alot of small details come out in interviews. Unfortunately there hasn't been any.

Yes im just worried with all this so many new features and cities and beautiful clowns in the park that they forgot the little important things in NBA BASKETBALL that actually happens in every game.
Mannnn! As someone who plays this mode almost exclusively I am extremely pumped.
The big issue is.. I don’t have a pre order yet. Anyone have an extra? Haha Id be winning to pay extra but not quite the $800 I’m seeing on eBay.

Yea these things are good but it looks like they haven't improved on the immersion or realistic aspects of presentation. Things such as:
*Scouting reports (sort of like Madden)
    *Pre-season awards
*Commentary that talks about the previous season
*scores around the league at half-time
*A feature like assistant coach/GM that will give suggestions on how to build your team. Depending on how good your GM is, this will determine the amount of information you will be presented with.
Just some new aspects. Looks like they just combined everything and brought some things from the past (playable G-League) back to the game.
But its better than nothing. Too bad there's no port for CPU have to wait until 2k22.

Looks good, can’t wait to send 2nd round picks to my To my G-league team.
I really wish we could buy players out , maybe next year.
One thing I may have missed, can you run a g-league team or just play games on the g-league schedule?
Its Great that you can remove teams, but can you remove Divisions? I would love to go back to the 4 division setup prior to 2003. Would be key for eighties/Nineties leagues.
It's easy to miss, but finally we'll get a 2nd assistant coach on the bench! Always looked so dumb having just one there. While it's still not 3-4, I bet by 2k23 this should be done.

Man I really hope we can do this. The nba were dope when they had just the central, midwest, atlantic and pacific. The rivalries were fierce because teams would play each other 5 times during the season. Also change the first round of the playoffs back to a best of five series.
I wonder what CPU roster building, free agent signing and trade logic will be like. It would be a shame if they didn’t get to that. Also, progression. Will all the young players in the league be 78+ OVR in 3 years, with no way to get the sweet spot of progression and training sliders quite right?
I'm just glad it doesn't seem like the typical barebones experience for year 1. It seems like there's something for everyone. There's seems like there's legit reason to buy NBA 2k21 day 1 for next gen. I haven't really seen the wait for 2k22. Just wish I could have same feeling for Madden.
If the NBA season does indeed start on 12/22, that does help me. If the training camp starts 11/1 and draft is 11/18 and they want to push up Free Agency, I could expect a official roster update around 12/1
I just came here to say this, Thank You 2K for not leaving Franchise Mode players behind. As someone who doesn't watch the NBA, I had heard so much about MyLeague/MyGM in the past in regards to customization and other things. I decided to give it a try, whichever game had expansion in it a few years ago was the first one I played.
I was impressed, and the entire time I kept thinking how certain things would translate to Madden. "Oh cool we can pick the location of the NBA All Star Game, well I'd like the ability to choose the location of the Super Bowl in Madden now." Then I see CBA rules and custom divisions, conferences, etc and I was hooked. Yes, as I read the blog I was immediately translating everything over to Madden lol.
Now if only I was getting a PS5 this year lol, I'll get one next year and get 2K22.

I never planned to go next gen till 2k22 (mainly because I wanna switch over to PC, where there is no next gen until then) and as cool as these features are, it only makes me feel better about waiting. You get the benefit of everyone else workshopping the new features for a year — figuring out the bugs and workarounds, good sliders, etc — and if next gen is shaping up so well right now even given the pandemic, im hopeful that 2k22 will incorporate some of what they werent able to get to (like face sculpting for CAPs).
If you cant wait then you cant wait, but personally i like current gen 2k21 pretty well and will enjoy playing it while also keeping an eye on the 2k community as it figures out how to get the best out of next gen
To my MyLeague bretheren. We have arrived. Amittedly i too was a little antsy with this league being revelaed so late in the game. But i never lost the faith. Lets go. Of course it wont be perfect but 2k gives it users tools to tweak it to your liking like no other. Beyond hyped
It's a testament to 2K's innovation that every time they add something our minds naturally drift toward how to take things even further.
Playable G-League is wonderful. Since it wasn't mentioned, I sort of imagine the rosters for those teams will be mostly fictional players (except for those on two-way contracts). If so, it's understandable. I wonder if G-League rosters would be fully editable in that instance.
Customizable rules with era-specific setups in mind is super cool, especially with the option to share with others. Makes me think of where else they could go with this (removal of 3-point line).
Removing teams in franchise mode is awesome and it was a wishlist item for me. I would presume you could start, say, a 27-team league and still have expansion teams turned on, meaning you could theoretically simulate the mid-90's, adding the Grizzlies and Raptors at their appropriate season.
It was nice to see 2K acknowledge those who make retro seasons and leagues while looking for ways to cater to that corner of the market. Hopefully all classic teams and players made the jump and don't look like insane monsters like last time.
I wonder if full player training would be included in MyNba online (player training was excluded from myleague online)
And I really wish we could pick which attribute, tendencies and signature animations we would like to clone without having to clone the players entire DnA when roster/player editing (played with a pc mod that allows this and its a great time-saver)
Overall I'm loving what I'm seeing, great job 2k.
Wait a minute... Will it be possible to use the Elam Ending in your G-League season and the normal ending in your NBA season????
That would be absolutely incredible, basically simulating what the NBA would do in using the G-League as a test run.
This is nice and all but would love to see new features in the next year’s iterations that would surprise all of us- new meaning something they never had before.
Example- having euro league, college, g league with pool of players made of eligible players for the next years, draft classes. Then we can manually or automatically do the scouting based on actual games :) something like that.
PS: just to be clear i like what i read about the next gen, just want fresh new features! :)

Euro and college would probably be really difficult. But maybe just giving us generated stats for eligible draftees, and maybe allowing generated players to be from HS and play in the G-League for a year before being drafted.
MyNBA basically has all of the necessary features down, now we're getting into the 2K Franchise Mode era where they can really start getting creative with new features. And combining all the modes into one allows them to dedicate all there resources into features for one mode instead of splitting resources for MyGM features and MyLEAGUE features.

I don't need College would be impossible too with the licensing just give me Euroleague and China maybe even the NBL.
I love   franchise  mode   the  most  but   I do play the other modes as well.   I hope  2k can add player intros to MyLeague for the   pre built teams  (Force, Sound,  Etc.) and  courtside interviews  for   those  teams.    Little  things   like  that  can add to  the franchise   mode  experience.     NBA   2k   continues  to move  in the right direction.

Or have an option for a fictional gleague/euro consists of eligible and non eligible draftees?
Another possible idea is to have the real life drama of the nba offseason in myNba - kd drama, “not 5, not 6, not 7” or someone being locked out or house arrest? Hehe

I think it would be cool to have a College Hoops tab in MyNBA. In there it would basically be College Hoops 2K8s legacy mode. We couldn't play games and there wouldn't be real players but we could follow along with a simulated season and be able to scout players. Plus, we'd have access to a pool of coaching candidates that could move between the leagues. Thinking about it, you could do the same with the Euroleague.

Big Question: Will MyNBA allow us to simulate CPU vs CPU? That's why I stuck with MyLeague rather than MyGM. Combining these two to one is great, but if you are unable to play your team on CPU vs CPU this would be catastrophic!!! I know most of you like to play your team, but I love all the other aspects of being a GM or even coach without having to actually control the players.
Anyone know any updates on this issue? Am I the only one who is concerned about this?
Can remove and reduce teams in the league?!?!... SOLD!
Now the only question I have is will the new consoles remove the relocation/creating team limit that PS4/One had?
Pretty incredible stuff here. If you've been following the franchise mode wish lists, you'll notice they knocked a lot of those requests out of the park.
My only hope for the future is that we don't lose these features ha

It's literally mentioned in the article about "players who actually play games", so I don't see why they'd say that and not have CPU vs CPU games.
    I wouldn't worry.

I wasn't going to buy until about December, but now I may have to buy close to day 1. Just so I can get a feel of the new MyNBA.
I also love creating players and saving their DNA and adding into random drafts. They have tattoos again as a feature so now I will need to work on that with my guys.
I stopped playing MyGm when MyLeague came because I hate being forced to do all those scenarios and the constant talking. I liked having more control over who possibly signs where and trades. Now the modes can be combined so that is cool to be able to turn some of the non stop talking feature, but keep some on.
Having Gleague games actually playable should that nerf some guys getting those while boost? I always ended up editing their ratings to be reasonable. No one is getting a 99rating in speed and all athletic abilities just from G league.

Basically what they had for the All Star game by having Kobe 24pts stuff. I think I will just use it in the ASG until I feel if I like it or not. Think it can make the super teams too good.
I hope adding the extra Asst coach on staff means that other teams actually try to interview Asst coaches for HC positions. That is something I would have to do in previous 2ks. It was unrealistic that teams would not interview assts for HC.
Perhaps having GMs will help that too and possibly hiring Asst gms to be GMs can happen.
The GMs can have such an impact on structure of teams.

Ohhh ya you're probably right. Didn't think about that. Still don't see why they'd get rid of that when they put so much effort into a new sim experience for next gen. Guess we'll find out in a few days!

I tell people this all the time. I love sports games in general, but it's embarassing the level of customization 2k has in a franchise vs the cookie cutter options Madden gives. I'd do anything to have an online Madden league with this much control. I personally love the stories from the MyGM portion so I like adding just a touch of it, instead of making it overbearing.
I saw from Chris Smoove vids that the Gleague has different arena, it's not just a floor swap. Many won't care but that's big for me as I plan to at worst CPU vs CPU watch some Gleague games to "monitor" how well my draft picks look.
Sent from my SM-G950U using Operation Sports mobile app
All of this sounds great... A MyLeague/MyGm combo is something that I've been requesting for a while so I'm beyond thrilled that we finally get that.
With that said, I would love to hear more about what changed, if anything, with some of the MyLeague problems for last gen. Have things like injuries and rotations been revamped at all? Any changes to the morale system? Do random G-Leaguers still get bigger ratings bumps that rookies who played well in the NBA the season before?
I love playing a 2k franchise as much as anyone and don't mind some micromanaging... but the constant babysitting that I have to do to get a semi-realistic league has grown a bit tiresome over the years. I'm hoping that the ML/MyGM merger will give them mode some new life and I'm excited to see it. However, if those same bugs keep popping up, then it's going to be a major downer.
