NBA 2K21 MyCAREER Blog & Trailer, 2K Beach Revealed

2K has already given us their NBA 2K21 gameplay and MyTEAM blogs. Today, it’s all about MyCAREER mode. Check out the blog and new trailer below.

The path to basketball superstardom is a dream for many and achieved by few in real life, but in NBA 2K21 you’ll have that opportunity as you carve your own path in MyCAREER! Always a highlight for millions of players around the world each year, MyCAREER offers a personal, cinematic basketball experience where you’ll build your custom MyPLAYER and take them to the heights of their career on and off the court.

As previously shared, the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 is built from the ground up for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. We’ll be sharing much more about the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 soon enough; today we’ll be going over everything that’s new in the current-gen version which launches on September 4.

NBA 2K21 - MyCAREER Junior

Experience Junior’s Journey

In NBA 2K21, this year’s narrative, The Long Shadow, tells the story of Junior – the son of a beloved baller who faces the challenges of trying to make it to the NBA, balancing legacy while carving his own path through high school to college. Making this journey more authentic to real life, NBA 2K21 will feature 10 officially licensed college programs to choose from in the story: Michigan State, UConn, Florida, Gonzaga, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, UCLA, Villanova University and West Virginia.

Of course, just making it to the draft doesn’t mean the end of the journey – it’s just the beginning! You’ll have to choose the right representation, manage team interviews, perform well at the NBA Combine and improve your Draft stock to land yourself in the best position for success.

Also, it wouldn’t be MyCAREER without some familiar famous faces. In NBA 2K21, you’ll see Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Guardians of the Galaxy), Mireille Enos (The Killing, World War Z) and cover athletes Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson and more bring Junior’s story to life in a dramatic and cinematic way.

NBA 2K21 - Welcome to 2K Beach

Soak Up the Sun at 2K Beach

The Neighborhood is THE place ballers can live out their virtual day-to-day lives, where hoops culture comes to life on every corner. Whether you want to compete in 3v3 streetball runs, play for bigger stakes in 5v5 ProAM games or simply show off the drip with all the latest clothes, shoes and more – there’s plenty of things to do and plenty of ways to express yourself in NBA 2K21.

Some eagle-eyed fans may have spotted a new locale from our Everything is Game trailer; it’s official – welcome to 2K Beach! Soak up the sun and escape to the ocean in a beautiful new setting, surrounded by modern facilities that house SWAG’s, The REC, NBA Store and more. NBA 2K21 will continue to host plenty of events at 2K Beach, providing even more reasons to come back all year long.

NBA 2K21 - MyCAREER Junior Lakers

Much, Much More!

A lot of players will spend the entirety of their NBA 2K21 experience in MyCAREER and balling out at the new 2K Beach location for the Neighborhood, but there’s plenty more things to do in the game this year!

  • WNBA – The WNBA returns in NBA 2K21 with Play Now and Season Modes, featuring all 12 teams in the league. Experience WNBA basketball built exclusively around the women’s game!
  • MyGM/MyLEAGUE – Sit in the boss’ chair, and make decisions that matter not only to your player or team – but to the entire franchise and league. From drafting impact rookies to trading players to relocating your team, every move, big or small, counts towards the long-term success – or failure – of your basketball franchise.
  • PLAY NOW – Jump into a no-frills basketball game, where you can get a quick match together against a friend or AI and play 4 quarters of intense NBA 2K Pick your favorite team – or a Classic or All-Time team – and run the offense with genre-defining controls and customization. This is NBA action at its most authentic.

We’re just a week away from the September 4 launch of NBA 2K21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC and Google Stadia. You can download the NBA 2K21 demo for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch today.

  1. Beach look so cool in My Career mode.. i am curious if 2k improve anything or fix major issues in My League mode. the main reason is i won't play My Career due to VC coins that i don't want pay real money for my own created players rating and other things
    swimfunk
So I am guessing this is the MyLeague blog* :(

yeah that so shame to see that because we don't know if 2k improve anything better or fixed some issues in my league mode
    Hustle Westbrook
Damn MyLeague guys barely got a whole paragraph lmao.

i guess they didn't improve anything or fix major issues in my league mode is very sad.. sobbing sobbing. if it gonna be same from 2k20 then people will be pissed if they don't like play My Career and prefer play offline mode like My League
Remember when 2k used to take pride in myleague and take shots at EA for their lack of advancement? Looks like they are now following their lead.

Wow.....they was better off not even mentioning myLeague at all if they didn't do anything with it. Well I may just skip 2K21 current gen this year, maybe altogether if I can't get a PS5......
Not impressed by the 2K beach and this blog seems pretty light in substance in comparison to the other 2 blogs
Man..No matchmaking for the neighborhood has me thinking about skipping. My best friend and I have spent more time waiting on getting a 3rd than we have actually playing games. That's with us inviting the lowest overalls and everything just to get games in. Everyone looks at record and only plays with people they think they can dominate with.
Without matchmaking I may have to skip this year..especially since it looks like MyLeague was not touched at all. (Isn't this like a year after 2k mentioning they care about franchise players more than the competition?)
So this year you get 4 new pie charts, a new shot meter which is really just a revamped old one, a new map essentially, and Maybe 100 new animations.
    :)
There couldn’t have been 2 teams working this year, one for current gen, one for next gen. Not possible.
This is like falling asleep at 11:50pm, realizing there’s an assignment due 11:59pm, asking your friend for their old assignment, copy pasting it, and then changing the font, and name in the top corner
I laughed when I read that MyLeague paragraph. It was a brief basic description of what the mode is. I knew from the jump that I was going to wait for next gen. Hell, after a week or so of playing 2k20 before I sold it and my PS4 last year, I knew I was done with the generation lol. Even if I had my PS4, I would still skip it.
The 2 main selling points of getting current gen 2k21 is what MyTeam and MyCareer. I would only get current gen if I didn't plan on getting a PS5 and I needed a basketball fix. If you plan on getting a next gen console and quickly ditching current gen 2k21, there's no point of investing time into MyCareer. If the only thing that transfers is VC, than why waste 2 months for some thing that isn't going to transfer over. I wouldn't even want to use VC on that player and who wants to play as a 60 OVR for 2 months. This makes sense for those getting the current gen Mamba Gen version to hold them over until next gen and comfortable with spending real money on VC.
Damn MyLeague didn't get any love for current gen. I'll definitely be playing more MyCareer this year, especially with the real colleges. I will say that Junior is easily the best generic name given to a MC player and the story sounds cool.

Personally I like what I’ve seen. I’m already getting the next gen Kobe edition, but I kinda wanna play that MyCareer story a lil bit. They finally have a nickname that I can actually relate to (even tho I’m technically the second and not a Jr) and I like the high school and college additions. If they added all that MyCareer stuff for this gen then I’m hoping next gen has a bunch of new stuff.
Also hope that they saved some MyLeague upgrades for the PS5. It’s good currently but could def use some new features.
I've always preferred the career modes where you start out in high school and work your way through college, so that is pretty cool. I am bummed Kentucky isn't an option but you take what you get, I understand why it isn't.
Aside from that, as a mostly offline MyLeague guy, there really isn't anything for me here.
IMO the main thing I think MyLeague has needed was bug fixing and refinements of what is already there. Of course we don't know if we got even that (probably not?).
But I don't think we need a bunch of new additional features because if the history of the mode has showed anything, it's that more features = more bugs and things not working like they should. I've grown tired of having to tweak and adjust all these settings to get things working properly. I shouldn't have to do that.
    OKC_35
It really dawned on me there are people who purchased a NBA game and never use a single NBA player.

Honestly went a whole 6 months playing MyCareer before I touched another mode.

definitely. everytime they introduced sth New, it didnt work like planned in the first year. rather give us bugfixing (Jersey selection, Coach settings Not reverting,...) than fancy New features that nobody wants and that dont work Either.
Serious question... Did anyone REALLY expect them to put in new stuff for current gen MyLeague when the new consoles/next gen game comes out TWO MONTHS later?
They really didn't add much to current gen 2K21. Can't even be mad at them tbh, but next gen needs to be A1 to justify this. No excuses.

Nah it's a great excuse to abandon current gen. People should be smart and not buy if they're going next gen. The very least they could do is give like a coupon or vc in next gen if you buy current.
That said. Nobody expects an amazing different franchise mode either. Or I don't.

I'll watch the walkthrough vids to see what the story is like since I expect next gen version to be a different experience. Since there cant be a 2k event as years past, I expect top YouTube influencers like Chris Smoove to get a early copy and start dropping vids this week since it comes out Friday
I really hope next gen the MyCareer format is changed. I'm tired of the Archetype system. I get that is for competitive balance for online. But for someone who plays offline, the Archetype system makes players feel like glorified role players that heavily relies on badges. I just want creative freedom with the Player. Last few years, I have been turned off with MyCareer because of it. Feels like I spend the first few months grinding for attribute upgrades and badges.

Disrupting these threads isn't where work is. You want to make a continuous statement on micros you should do it on 2K's official outlets.

At this point, who cares about microtransactions? I've been able to enjoy the game without spending a dime more.

I agree. I don't feel pressure to buy VC. Yeah, it sucks to start off as a 60 OVR player. But, there's never pressure to buy VC. At end of day, if I really don't want to start out as 60 OVR, there are other modes and apps(MyNBA2k) to earn VC before I start MyCareer. The initial grind to 85 isn't as bad as the grind from 85-99.

Cool. When "The real-life NBA" posts in an OS thread, we'll cross that bridge.
Has nothing to do with what I'm saying now.

I've focused only on two players this year and got them both to 90 without spending a dime one of them is a 98. I got like 3 other builds that are in the 80s that I don't use much. The microtransactions stuff is all overblown.
There are plenty of opportunities to earn VC.

2K20 was without a doubt a bit better on this front. I also paid $0.
Makes me worried 2K may have thought they overstepped and will increase the grind again.

yea, the unlocking/changing of badges was really nice, too. They implemented a lot of things I have been whining about for a few years. Probably would be nice to be able to tweak your 'potential', too, at least.
There's no reason to increase the grind unless they made less money, which I doubt.

Maybe not less than 2K19, but less than they could have. There is a balance to achieve and they could think they missed the mark slightly.
Although frankly being able to test your builds at 95+ was likely more impacting on any potential missed revenue, as people previously would have invested in builds they didn't end up liking (either with $, or going on to spend $ on the replacement build to get it up to speed quickly), and based on the demo that seems to have remained in 21, so hopefully that's a sign 2K aren't in "squeeze it for every penny" mode.
So if you play 2K21 my career on current gen you can just save all of the VC you earn and it will carry over to next gen? And then I can use all that VC earned up upgrade my next gen player in my career?

Yes that should be the case. That way by time you get to Next Gen, you can have a lot of VC saved up for next gen. The only issue is that 2k starts you off at 60 OVR. So you have 3 main options. 1) Either stay at 60 OVR and don't upgrade your player at all and save all the VC you earn. But who wants to play at 60 for 2 months 2) Upgrade your player as you go along and save all the rest of VC. Only issue 2 months isn't a enough time to grind your player and save up VC. 3) Buy VC to get your player to 85 OVR from the jump and stay at level and save all the VC you get. I'm not for buying VC, but starting at 85, you should be good enough to stay where you at and save up VC for 2 months.

That’s the word. Could be an exhausting grind if you don’t upgrade your toon at all though. I pre ordered the Mamba Edition so I get 100K VC for this gen and another 100K for next gen. I’m going to spend my VC on my current gen toon and some of what I earn so that he’s decent. I’ll just hold off on shoes and that kinda crap until next gen. I figure in 2-3 months I can upgrade my current gen guy and still save enough to get a good start on my next gen one.

Yes, but as others mentioned, you'll either have to spend VC to upgrade your current gen player to make it fun or you'll be playing as a 60 overall.
I'd probably just recommend playing a different mode like MyGM, PNO, etc. and rack up the VC that way instead.

Exactly. If your main concern is saving up VC for next gen, then I would do other modes. If you buy the Mamba Forever edition and don't touch the 100K VC, you can save up a lot up VC doing other modes
I wouldn't want to waste 2 months on a mode where it doesn't transfer progess. I rather just watch YouTube videos on the story. Unless they had a option to refund your VC like in the PS3 era MyPlayer. In like 2k11 or 2k12, you were able to get back VC used on attributes when you decreased attributes you used VC on.
