NBA 2K21 Features MyTEAM Cross-Progression and Shared VC Wallet Between Current & Next-Gen Consoles

NBA 2K21 will feature MyTEAM Cross-Progression and a Shared VC Wallet within the same console generation (PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, Xbox One to Xbox Series X). MyTEAM Cross-Progression enables all MyTEAM Points, Tokens, cards and progress to be shared on both current and next-generation versions of NBA 2K21 in the same console generation.

Similarly, the Shared VC Wallet means any earned or purchased VC is accessible across both current and next-generation versions of NBA 2K21 in the same console generation.

As shared earlier, players who are interested in picking up both versions of NBA 2K21 on either PlayStation or Xbox can check out the Mamba Forever Edition, which provides dual-access, by providing purchasers with a copy of the standard edition of NBA 2K21 on the other generation at no additional cost, within the same console generation.

  1. So if I’m understanding correctly, we either have to buy the game on both generations for $130 or Pat $100 to get it on both via the Kobe edition? That’s pretty brutal.

Yeah that is brutal. They're pretty much saying buy more expensive one now or pay twice.
I can see them focusing primarily focusing on next gen version, while giving current gen version a few new features and maintenance. So you'll be mainly playing current gen for basketball fix and and to build up VC for next gen version and MyTeam.
Even if I had a console right now(sold them last year), I would just wait until Next gen comes out. You'll be buying Current gen in the Middle of Conference Semifinals and wouldn't get upcoming rookies until Mid to late October(outside of MyTeam). I rather way until late November and have close to opening day rosters.
So if you do the next gen mamba forever edition, you won't get the code for current gen until "holiday 2020?" That would suck considering that current gen releases in September. For someone getting a next gen console, I think the only purpose of getting the game on current gen is to hold you over until the next gen system comes out. If we get both of them at the same time, there's no point...

Yeah I could theoretically try to accumulate VC in current gen for two months, but I’d have to do it with a presumably 60 overall player.
Unless they essentially return any VC you spend on current gen it just seems like a pretty terrible experience for a couple months.

If you have any plans on getting next gen version at launch, then you're just getting current gen to hold you over. I only really see VC and MyTeam transferring over. So, whats the point of investing 2 and half months on a MyLeague/MyGM or MyCareer if you are going to leave it behind when next gen comes out. No point of anyone buying VC because you're better off waiting until next gen to do that. Then yeah you can "farm VC" for next gen, but can't really use it on the MyPlayer for current gen. Do you really want to spend 2 months playing with a 60 OVR player just to save up VC for next gen. So if you were to just buy it to save up VC, your better off saving up VC in other modes. Even if you get Legend Edition, still can't invest too much time in Mycareer or MyLeague since it might not transfer over.
I planned on waiting until next gen anyway. But for those who buy current gen, hopefully they added some thing that can hold you over

I think you might be implying that if you preorder next gen Legend edition. If you pre-order current gen Legend edtiion, you should be good

I am hoping that MyPlayer will be the same. If VC and My team are, why not MyPlayer too?

I don't see it. 2k14 current gen and last gen were two completely different MyCareer experiences. I can see the MyCareer story being a focus for year one like this gen.
I actually wonder what they will do with current gen Mycareer this year. 2k13 and 2k14 Mycareer was the same if I'm correct. They have to do something with current gen MyCareer. It's not like last gen where there weren't storylines so it was easier to just have the same career mode. I dont know if they would have the same story as 2k20. But if it is the case that no progress transfers in MyCareer, then it is no point to even bother with that mode current gen if you plan to get Next gen at launch. Why upgrade a player with VC if you are going to leave that player behind.

They’ve already confirmed MyPlayer won’t carry over. All they said is it won’t really work Ecuador it’s a brand new game on the next gen consoles.

Well according to the stream by Ronnie2K, pre-ordering the next gen digital legends edition will get you the current gen standard edition by September 4th. So that's good.
I'll be sticking with 2k20 until November and getting next gen 2k21 on PS5. There is no incentive at all for buying current gen and then only playing it for a month or two.
This is so braindead across the board... they gave it to the two things that didn't need it while neglecting MyCAREER: remove all the cutscenes and story bullshit and let us carry that over as well. No one in their right mind is completing an NBA career in one year, and restarting a player isn't fun either. What is fun is restarting MyTEAM, but I guess we'll be running into Opal squads right off the bat? This is so braindead from every angle possible.
