Him and Lonzo look the most photo-realistic. Which means, 2K needs to work on the skin textures/lighting of the darker skin tones.
But that aside, he definitely looks good here.

LMAO that's awful. Amazing how much detail seems to have been infused in just one year, and with correct body types as well. I hope the same detail has been given to the atmosphere and the gameplay.

I was thinking that exact thing about Wade :lol: as he's been awful and they've never gotten him down. I'm sure Markkanen was scanned though along with most rookies. I bet if Jimmy Butler was still a Bull we'd have a screen shot though.

It was really hard. I even edited the body width and everything. I was like "something has to give" sadly only Brandon Ingram looked normal in that body type. Truly a detriment to the series.

But if not, I can't imagine how good this game will look (5v5 broadcast cam). Be hard to tell it from a real life game.....

That's my biggest worry too. I really hope they don't go back to how dark/dim the player lighting/courts were in 2K16. That will be a major letdown.
I'd also like to see more full body shots. Need to see more legs.

We already know they sacrificed crowd lighting, which opens up a lot of resources given they can drop the quality of the hundreds of 3d models in the crowd and you can't tell since it's darker the higher it goes. They probably messed with reflections too to save some resources because right now the graphics are damn near on par or surpassing 2k14 levels (people overrate how good that looked but forget the awful 2 body types, dim arenas, and lack of sideline characters like cheerleaders/mascots/cameramen).
The 2k17 one is so bad it honestly makes 2k18 Hayward look real.
Not that it needed 2k17, some of these pics are scary photorealistic. This and the Lonzo pics are crazy (the lighter skinetones seem to benefit the most from the lighting which is funny because years ago it was the opposite).
I just really hope they did some work on the Retros, and classic teams.

I would hope that they made the game from the most powerful systems and just made subtractions accordingly when needed for the less powerful systems such us the Ps4 pro/Xbox one x having possibly having better lighting or floor reflections then the regular ps4 and Xbox one, but I'm just hoping for this logic to be true.
I'm starting to think 2K released 2K17 with the noodle arm player models on purpose so they could use the improved player models this year as a selling point. I mean there's no other way to justify how laughably bad some of them look compared to this year's lol. There's no way that 2K could look at some of last years models & been ok with releasing them. There had to be a method to the madness.
This actually makes sense because 2k16 looked pretty good graphically and the drop graphically from 2k16 to 2k17 looked so drastic it had to be done on purpose. But why take that route when your on top of the world like 2k is?

CP3 and Lowry have looked like pro wrestlers for years. KD & Giannis had Brock Lesnar traps in 2k16. They just haven't been strong in this area. The closest they've come to an accurate body type the last few years was 2k16 Steph.

Most players bodies are gonna look similar which is why expecting 100's of different body types was unrealistic, HOWEVER, they did need a few more distinctive ones for certain players to appear accurate(ala KD).

Not really. The only egregious one was Oladipo, Hayward is actually fairly accurate. There's even a pic comparing to real life on like page 3 and it's damn near spot on.

But if you look at an actual picture of the player, you'd see they actually have a "long neck" (which is normal, but I think their necks stand out in 2k because its a first time in a while their necks aren't connected to their shoulders/chest)

You can do this with any of the current screenshots they released and it'll look identical.
Once again, their necks looks drastic because 2k made a drastic change in the separation of their necks and the chest/shoulders.

They rested on the shoulders if the player wasn't moving. Problem is they had that weird jumping shoulder jersey movement thing going on and the barrel chests. But when rested it would lay on the shoulder (as much as possible given the still unnatural traps) For example:

The skin tone alone makes it so much better. Now I really want to see Kevin Love. He's always looked like a caveman in 2k games, so I'm hoping they were able to get him right this year.
So I personally will accept the long necks as its more realistic for these generally lanky guys. And from the screens seen so far, I actually think they look good.

I don't think it was them being lazy and no way they were incompetent enough to think those super skinny bodies were acceptable. They probably didn't have enough time to put in the proper body types or some sort of glitch happened along the way that they couldn't fix in time.

Question concerning 2k's approach to art:
(1) What's the logic behind not recycling or reusing player models that have been "perfected" so to speak (quote unquote perfected in facial feature, body types) in past iteration and simply import them to the new game. i.e. 2k16 had an extremely solid Curry body type.
(2) What's the logic for having only apparently 5 player models for last year or the year before's game, as oppose to continually building on what came beforehand? Since this year's model looks appropriately proportion (maybe not Dwight Howard's wing span), but would it be appropriately efficient to keep the ones that are "on point" and adjust models that aren't "perfect" for future releases. Overtime, instead of a library of 5 models, there might be a library of 25 to 45 different body types, and unique body types.
I wanna see full bodies tho. Curry's legs looked thick in the pic with him and KD. I wanna see if it was just the camera view or what.
