  1. I couldn't access microsoft store on web or mobile, nor find it on my console, but if you have an updated windows PC, you can find it in the store app and beam it to your console. 2% loaded baby!!!

For PS4 I went to all games, sort by newest first, and scrolled down past the pre-orders and found it. Started the download no problem.

    Yep.
    This way works.
Searching by typing it out kept crashing.
Seriously guys, 3 pages in and no actual impressions of the game, just a bunch of downloading talk when there's a thread of the download release already?... my lord.

how to find on xbox one using console? cant find it. and dont want to use ms

Just search for NBA 2K18. There will be 4 or 5 choices. The Prelude is the last one.

    Can you call plays?
Can you play in broadcast camera?
    How's the gameplay feel Hustle?
    So many questions.. LOL

Yeah, you can change your camera angle, call plays and use the freelances.

Anyone else having trouble connecting to the 2k servers on XBOX1? My PS4 download hasn't finished so I can't check there yet.

I was about to post this just now. I can't get on the servers at all and thought it was my connection but all seems fine. All I can do is 2KU.
Quick question! Is the Neighborhood flooded with 99s yet?! I keep hearing you can't be competitive anymore because you're not a 99 ovr and because of hair...
Went to go edit MyPlayer appearance. Apparently 2k already knew that I was going to make my player with the shortest wingspan possible.

Glad it's not just me. Guess I'll just play 2kU until I can connect. Not a good look for 2k or XBox though.

LOL is sculpting in? Right now I'm 10 minutes in for PS4 and not sure about Xboxone...

So it does have cavs vs warriors ??
Expand, how quarters, quarter length etc etc.

It's basically like last year where you're in the gym, 10 minutes. The tips still pop up and no way to turn them off, can change the camera.
10 minute quarters guys. Game play feels pretty smooth. Anyone know how to switch teams. I wanna play with The King

and THIS is why i'm so skeptical of the neighborhood. god, i love 2k basketball.. BUT I FREAKING HATE 2K SERVERS. according to the prelude (XB1) there is something wrong with MY internet (the in-game message you get says it's your connection that is the problem).
funny. my 1gb open NAT network is fine on every other game. so sad. i guess 2k for offline and nba live 18 for online.

I'll let you know in a second. I just uploaded my face scan................and as I was typing "I expect it to be a disaster" I just saw "There was an issue with your scan" lol
    Ok so you can edit:
    Skull Width
    Skull Height
    Brows
    Eyes
    Nose
    Ears
    Mouth
    Chin
    Hair
    Eyebrows
And a lot of the stuff seems to be just picking between 30 different kinds. So I don't think there is sculpting unless I haven't gotten to it or found it.

As the kids would say, is the gameplay lit?

Yeah. Right off the bat the player movement feels so much better, especially on defense. I don't feel as if I'm getting stuck in mud like in 2K17.
And the drives are smooth. The CPU isn't cheating to get back into plays after they get blown by.
So far I like the presentation and this Busta Rhymes joint takes me back, hope it's not the only song.

Oh my god every head preset player's eyes look like Gollum. lmfao

Not even facial hair? Ugh...you mean I actually have to step foot in the barbershop and buy a beard? :signball:
So far I'm only in 2ku playing cavs vs warriors. What difficulty does everyone feel 2ku is on? To me it feels like a low difficulty, have greened several jumpshots so far, both standing with feet planted, and off the dribble pull up with KD. Game feels pretty good, too early to tell much though. I will check back in.
Gameplay feels pretty smooth and I like the new shot feed back system. No idea what the difficulty is but Durant in the corner is money even with moderate contest. Playcalling takes a little getting used to now with using the buttons to select but overall I like these changes thus far.

You get to choose 5 different hairstyles, with a message at the bottom saying "Visit Doc's Barbershop on Main Street for many more hair styles"
Again, this feels like it is on low difficulty, but my initial impression after 1 quarter of 2ku is that there is a noticeable speed difference for guys that are quick vs 2k17. Also for anyone wondering, the tip/tutorial advice does pop up randomly just like the 2k17 prelude.
Well this is odd. I can't seem to connect to either XBox or Sonys 2k servers.
I literally just downloaded the PS4 version so my net isn't acting up either...
Edit: Looks like Twitter is blowing up with people having server issues. If 2k can't even handle the Prelude I feel sorry for those of you that are going to try and play The Neighborhood on Day 1...
Seems easier to dribble by a the CPU defender at least in this practice game. Well it is harder with Durant vs Lebron, but Curry can get by IT and Klay by JR every single time.
I noticed that the hop step/step back while still keeping your dribble seems to be gone. If you hop it picks the ball up so you have to shoot or pass.
Player movement feels alot better. Also doesn't seem like you get sucked into the defender when your trying to drive past them. Same when your on defense, if you get beat, then you just got beat, no force field pulling you into place.
First face scan came out PERFECT!
I'm scared of scanning myself again to mess this one up.
Last year it took me 100 tries to get something decent.
You have to buy facial hair though? Really???

So whats the name of that new camera that zoom in and zoom out ?

Broadcast zoom - that's what Mike called it on Twitter (if that's the one you mean).
Yeah I have to admit it's not a good look at all to have an offline MyCareer but not be able to play it or access anything but 2KU because the servers are down.
They said they rebuilt their netcode too so this isn't giving me high hopes for the future.
Edit: As I say that, I seemed to connect to the servers.
Graphics look good. The gameplay is similar enough to be familiar but it's very smooth in comparison to 17. I love how the jump shooting feels and the players speed feel distinct.
Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Dribble moves definitely feel smoother. Curry feels real nice. I don't have to be 10 feet away to do a cross over now. It might be on pro or something, but I am not losing the ball or picking it up any time I am near a defender.
Game looks and feels great so far. Body types really stand out. Dribbling is very smooth...has never felt this organic. Good stuff so far.

If you like to play as a rim protecting athletic center who only scores on pick & rolls like me, then the AI ballhandlers are ****ing useless, way worse than last year in this regard

It's ****ing impossible to win any of these games, the AI do not know how to run a pick & roll, at least in this game mode
Idk who was talking about the jump shots feeling clunky but I think it's actually pretty smooth. Love the whole it vibrates to let you know when to release the ball. Just feels natural. I don't even look at the shot meter.

NOT IMPRESSED so far with Player Creation!
    We'll see.

Same here man. Gonna be impossible create a good Barkley/Miller/Sheed/Arenas with this terrible system
Just played a quick 2ku match. Gameplay feels light years better. It's going to be an incredible year, folks!
Animations are smooth. No warping or sliding. Dribbling feels awesome. Off-ball movement/ plays run great.
Player creation is so trash. Def agree with everyone above. I'm pretty sure you literally hv to buy everything like facial hair and even skin tone. Like wtf. I'm a brown guy but the preset face I like is white. You can't even change skin tones. Maybe it's a prelude thing but idk.

As a defensive rebounder, my first MyCareer game ended with 6 points, 7 boards, 2 assists and 2 blocks. I didn't even really get to run the pick and roll because my teammates were down the floor each time ready to score.
Like the feel of it so far despite the cut scene weirdness.
Player creation is trash. WTF is this? How did they manage to remove the only redeeming CAP feature. No sculpting.
The Career is awful as well. These games may be scripted, I'm not sure, but my teammates suck. They can't shoot, defend, anything. Not to mention the CPU makes everything.
Not feeling this so far. I also wish you could switch archetypes because this one sucks. (Pure playmaker)
*EDIT* it's definitely scripted. I got picked to play on the legend court over ATM who literally did not miss a bucket and beat my team by 10. SMH. I might have to down grade my preorder to the $60 version.
    Early impressions. Very early impressions.
Slashers are about to be very dangerous in Pro-Am if they get even a fraction of the calls in the 2KU if they use the agressive layup as the go to for driving. Not dunking, but the agrresive layup.
Foul Calls everywhere if you get a mismatch with KD, beat him off the dribble with the triple threat, slow down a step to where
    1. You're still in front of the defender
    2. But still have a nice layup angle
    3. You can still bait the defender into contesting the layup
    Christ!
Whoever did the animations and movement on the defensive side of the ball NEEDS a damn raise! OMG! I played like five minutes, and was like...instant purchase. Playing defense was like the only thing that I cared about.
I know we use the word "smooth" every year, but 2K18 gives it a brand new meaning.
Second game, I see why people were complaining about CPU teammates. My first teammates were running the floor and hitting. The second were terrible, I had 19 rebounds in a game to 21 points because they kept bricking.
The new player movement on both sides of the ball really gives this 2K a brand new gameplay feel. Finally this feels like a fresh 2K from the jump!

Face-Scan was great on the first try, ended up making a 6'3 ShotCreating/Ball Handling Point Guard.
Hope to go to the Bucks and play with the Greek Freak and Crew
Got to play against lebron in a scrimmage, first play he isos me and left me in the dust. Finishes it off with power at the rim.
Also funny thing is the cutscenes before the game, Isaiah Thomas was a giant. He was bigger than korver and lebron or was it lebron and korver were just tiny.
EDIT: sheesh lebron doesn't want me on the team apparently. Next play down, I'm on an island again and he's posting me up on the right block. He spins over his left shoulder for the fade, I leave my feet to contest, but lebron fakes it for the easy up and under lay in.

Well that was the fastest demo ever. You get locked out of making another player after you've finished the first run through of the MyCareer portion. In a weird way you might be better off not playing that part of this demo, because once you're locked out you can't see for yourself what badges certain archetypes get. Calling it a head start is very generous. It's not a head start in any way unless these cut scenes are unskippable in the full game...
I'm not sure what the difficulty in 2kU is so I don't know if the dumb things AI does is because of the difficulty level. Also stop telling me the controls I know them damn it!
Player speed and movement does feel better. That's all I can really evaluate.

I mean unless it's a bug, you pick a hairstyle in Myplayer creation and start the thing bald. Avoiding spoilers for those who don't want it spoilers but your (best?) friend appears randomly in a cut scene where they're just acknowledged as this. I feel like I was just thrown in a role so far that I have no backstory about with characters that are the same thing. It feels different to me personally than last year or the year before where even without the full story right away you got things explained to you even in hints in dialogue compared to this.
I'll take the story being what it is (so far) though with the gameplay feeling as nice as it does.
    GoDucks1224
Gotta be honest. This story for MyCareer has to be the worst one they've done. And they've done some pretty corny stuff. But this is... Not good.

As strictly an offline MyCareer guy I'm starting to get worried. No wonder they didn't do a blog about it. Sounds like they stripped it down to make room for all the neighborhood stuff. :(

Yea, it was SUPER short. I think I finished it in about 90 minutes at most. However, you're playing basketball nearly the entire time. Not much of that 90 minutes was spent watching cut scenes, so that was nice.
I'm not gonna lie, the entire thing was pretty average. But, you likely get to the NBA stuff quicker, so those guys that like to start multiple MyCareers are going to be happy.

Well I hate to compare the games and tried to avoid but you can't help but be a little disappointed that Live put out quite a bit of a demo letting you get a feel for the game including online play and 2K give us the revamped Playgrounds mode but offline. It's not a case of 2K not knowing either given Live 16 had a similar type of demo.
I haven't gotten to the end of it but I surely hope you can actually explore the neighborhood and stuff because if not, then you can't even get into the store as far as I know like you could last year. So it's more a case of admittedly being spoiled but a lot of titles out there have a lot more fleshed out demos than this.
Good god this mycareer is garbage. Hopefully all this trash story goes away once you're in the league. I'll form my own story in my head and skip the nonsense cutscenes.
Worst mycareer story ever. Open world is fun though if you have an imagination and skip the cutscenes.
The actual game though is fantastic. Played a half hour of the 2KU mode and this is basketball heaven. No warping, no bad animations, no sticking to defenders. This is freaking great.

Yeah but to be fair.. Live NEEDED a more complete demo. It would be nice for this to be more complete. But. 2K is a proven commodity. Live was a failure that took a year off and needs to carve out a market. A more comprehensive demo makes more sense for them.
Also, I'm enjoying the gameplay. The story is just so cringe and there isn't much else to do.

Idk anymore. It's like they didn't have to do anything so there's that. But then it's like, since you did something, this feels lackluster. Play a few park games with 60 overall character. I think an NBA 5v5 with 2 teams could have showed the improvements and engine better than this, most of it was watching the cut scenes that were already already all shown during the event. Could have sworn there was a tweet a few weeks ago saying we'd be in for a surprise with the demo. Oh well. Back to nba live 10 hour trial.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. I think this is what CAP is now.
The shot stick is definitely too tightly geared toward jumpers. Several times I've pulled up while trying to go for a layup, it's super annoying. If I'm running full speed and I'm 5 feet away from the hoop, I don't want to shoot a stop and pop!!!

Oh you guys are right, like I said, it's a spoiled mindset for something free. I have no issues at all with the gameplay aspects and it's only a week till the new game. It's really just comparing it to last year where you could access the store and deck your player out for the cut scenes and actually upgrade him that made it feel more intuitive. So it feels like a step back in that regard but I am happy to see some of the improvements they made play out.

Man, I played one more game of 2KU, and the smoothness is incredible. After playing 2K17, the movement and control is a complete night and day. I went back to 2K16, and I think 2K18 feels way better than that game.
They did a good job of removing the bumper car feeling that you had with 2K17.

The lengths some of these fan boys would go to defend 2k is astonishing.

Defend what? It's a demo. It's reaffirmed my decision to buy 2K18. Personally, I don't care about MyCareer, so that part of the demo was irrelevant to me.
On the plus side 5v5 feels great. I really loved how easy it was to cook weaker defenders like IT & Jamal Crawford.
I still feel like LeBron is a tad too passive, they pretty much ran the offense through IT. Not sure if it was because Curry was defending while I put Dray on LeBron, but it was still not enough LBJ. Speaking of Bron, the post moves in this game are gorgeous. He hit me with this one hand, fake pass, scoop up-and-under, and it was beautiful.
Dribbling feels a lot better, smoother, less spammy and cartoonish. Defense in the half court is a lot better. Transition D isn't hilariously bad, it's kind of realistically bad. Players lose track of their matchups all the time IRL and it happened a few times here, just like the Finals.
The new contact animations, make running plays feel so much more real. Running elevators for Klay=$$$.
I caught a glimpse of the play branching system in career and it will make you work on D. I tried to jump a pass to Jimmy Butler for what would've been my second steal if this was 2K17, he stopped on a dime, cut to the hoop and finished with a nasty dunk.

Man, I played one more game of 2KU, and the smoothness is incredible. After playing 2K17, the movement and control is a complete night and day. I went back to 2K16, and I think 2K18 feels way better than that game.
They did a good job of removing the bumper car feeling that you had with 2K17.

The new motion engine makes a huge difference, from a movement & control perspective...so glad bump steals are finally a thing of the past lol
At this point, it's all a matter of how well the game feels a couple of months after release though...If Mike Wang keeps his word, and doesn't feed into the complaints from the online cheese community, this will definitely be the most fluid 2k since '11
Basic rule of thumb for life guys
    If it's free don't complain
Now when the paid version drops, complain away idc
But complaining about stuff like your name being DJ and only having certain modes is dead

I feel like I'm the outlier here. But I like it.
The story is nowhere near as bad as people are making out. Pretty minimal which is what you want. No god damn Victor van Lier, no Justice ORANGE JUICE bull****. Do well, get a tryout, maybe make the team. I don't care if it's not Spielberg. We had Spike Lee and he flopped. Once I'm playing in the NBA I'll forget all that stuff ever existed.
Think people forget that the purpose of the demo is the gameplay and it's pretty damn solid. Movement, particularly on D, is a HUGE improvement over the last few years. Shooting seems decent enough, contesting shots actually seems to make a difference too.
It's good. Hopefully when the full thing drops Friday y'all can calm down.
FYI, a friend of mine told me that they kept their in the cut scenes so perhaps that happening earlier was one of those weird things because the server was down beforehand and it caused some type of error.

I feel what you're saying but it's an impressions thread, people were giving their honest thoughts on how they felt about the demo. I don't think there was anyone being too crazy about it, just pointing out their disappointment.
Im not happy they removed the ability to have your passing icons open when your in the post or protect ball, i always use go into post or protect ball, and when i clicked icon passing i would stay in post or protect ball with my icons open, now it just faces you up when you click the icon pass button.
Dammit this game is super unrealistic. My character told Ronnie2k that he appreciates him. If it was actually me he would have told him to **** off.
Edit: Holy crap just got to the next scene. What is this orange is the new black looking girl doing in my game.
OH my this prelude have me scared of the day one patch:y6:
As is right now this game is amazing:headbang2
plz dont let the day one patch changes things up basketball gods :y220:

The lengths some of these fan boys would go to defend 2k is astonishing.

The lengths some of these Live fan boys would go to bash 2K in the 2K forum is astonishing. It's almost as if they don't have their own to go comment in.
Btw, if being 'okay' with a weak demo a week before launch makes me a fanboy, then you have seriously low standards for your definition of fanboyism. Sorry I'm not spending my night being outraged and complaining.
Lol your post history is 80% you bashing 2K for minor things and 20% bashing people for being excited about 2K. Why do you spend so much time here if all you wanna do is hate?

The velocity on the pass is nice, the ball can be whipped around the horn Ala San Antonio Spurs style.
In 2KU, if you put in on Advanced, you get fewer interruptions.
For all the Broadcast View heads, Broadcast Low is nice!

The logic of some posts I've seen....if someone gave you a free hot dog but the hot dog was absolutely terrible, you'd just eat it anyway? I'm not saying 2K is terrible or anything even close, but the prelude was lacking substance IMO, it was just the beginning of the storytelling, so who knows if it gets better. I play a lot of F2P games and never understand when people defend crappy things just because they're free. If there are guys unhappy with the prelude, that's their opinion, its not a fair to say there is no complaining if something is free.
Just finished playing it on the XboxOne.
The gameplay feels A LOT like NBA LIVE 18. But this is great thing. NBA LIVE has always been the more fun game in my opinion, just terrible A.I. (A.I. has approved dramatically this year). I had fun playing the prelude so I'm sure I'll have fun playing 2K18 all year long (along with NBA LIVE). 2K is not only smarter than ever but finally it's FUN again since it now plays very similar to NBA LIVE.

Playing 2ku now......bruh the gameplay is so SMOOTH ...just wow
Sent from my Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator,

Let's just hope there won't be 1000 patches afterwards to mess up the gameplay ....

If anyone actually figures out how to do this let us know.
Subtle impression: Strange seeing players on certain occasions not look at the rim when shooting (i.e. driving the paint, dunk, etc). 2k is usually pretty good at animation, but just odd this was missed.
Well as far as the My Career part, meh. At least your my player gets a pair of Jordan 32's when the game comes out. Now 2KU... The gameplay is much smoother especially on defense. Last year you would have to turbo just to keep up with you man but now player movement is great on defense.
    Rockie_Fresh88
    Nope you can't

Oh wow that's actually quite bad.. so if I want to make a ball handling-3 Pt shooting player, since it has just 8 gold and the first 5 are handling badges, I will miss out on one of the outside shooting badges (catch and shoot, 3 deadeye, corner and limitless range) :34:
Game play is fcking beautiful. I can't wait for the real game. Damn man it's gonna be a long 1 week. Just gonna keep messing around 2ku now.

Prelude was terrible overall imo. I honestly felt like I wasted my time lol. The story is very corny. Might be the corniest of them all so far.
The mode seemed very barebones compared to last years and definitely compared to NBA Lives demo. All you could change was your jump shot and even that was limited. Still cannot even see what's the actual ratings before you make a player. So I guess I'll just wait until the game comes out to actually see what I am making.
The gameplay seems a lot more polished but couldn't really get a feel because it didn't allow me to change control settings or anything but from the one scrimmage I did play, the gameplay should be very nice this year. Guess I'll play a few more of those.

Honestly, 2KU was the best part of this demo. The MyPlayer portion was pretty bad lol. Pretty lame that you can't edit your accessories or attributes. And that CAP system is just terrible.
As far as 2KU goes, I really enjoyed it. Of course since it's offline and it's a low difficulty you can't take too much away from it but I love what they've done to the movement system. Anyway I went ahead and preordered the game, so I can't wait for next Friday. 2KU should hold me over for the next week while I try to get used to the PS4 controller.
CAP is straight GARBAGE. I would've taken last year's with updated textures and hairstyles over this travesty tbh. Unless 2k is gonna release editable draft classes with premade faces there's honestly no point in even attempting to create them this year.

Yikes. And of course nothing this significant has ever been addressed by patch

It's also not fair to say anyone who isn't complaining is a fanboy, and that by NOT being angry about the length of the prelude they are in the wrong. Which is what a few of these guys are acting like. I really don't care about the preludes length, because frankly, the game comes out in a week. I'm not so impatient that I'll let a bad demo ruin my mood. And I certainly won't be complaining about how 2K is a bad company because of a lame demo.
I think the strength attribute this year will be big. My low strength guy was getting pushed around. Also, kyrie's release is wet

Just finished prelude and I'm impressed. Smoothness was a great word for gameplay
Also I saw no warps at all. Like not a one. I picked a 6' 11 post scorer balhandler and my dribbling was pretty darn fast. I was surprised that was the base at a 55. I can't imagine how crazy it'll be fully maxed. Cheese? Blocks and steals seemed harder so if you want them pick a defensive archetype.
Brick walls gone, no warps, fun post game was a plus too. The learning curve on the post game will be large I can tell. A lot of guys are going to get scared about jumpers and pick post players and a lot of guys will be worthless because they don't have the patience to find a GOOD post shot. Turnarounds register as wide open shots 100% if you don't jump so keep that in mind when guarding post scorers next week.
Ummmm have to gives props to defense again. Poor drives are punished with animations that make you stumble so if you constantly try trash drives your going to bog your offense down a lot
Also one thing I haven't seen mentioned here at all I don't think is the court actually seemed correctly sized. Back to the basket scorers will love that for passing. Another huge thing for post scorers that will most likely apply in the park. MISMATCHES are alive and well in this 2k. The few times in the scrimmage I somehow got Derrick Rose switched on me I literally had to do NOTHING but go straight up. Bigs VS guards will be good night this year. Last year you had to drop step them or get a dunk animation to abuse guards vs bigs. But in real life when you have a short guy on you you just go straight up. I'm glad 2k made mismatches like that. If you run park and you run a 6' 2" PG at center you should pay for it.
Now I have to imagine it works the other way around too but in 2k17 guards could always abuse bigs by running sideways so it's good to see 2k evened the playing field
P.S. I didn't press reach much but the few times I did get a reach in foul it seemed like it took a while teammate grade bar from me. When I got shooting fouls it seemed like the hit was less than reach fouls.
Also I think having HOF post badges is going to be very important because of the correctly sized court and reach spam being killed, bigs are going to have a lot of space and time to work the post. After playing this I have to revisit my stance on making a pure post scorer. I didn't anticipate the court would be right sized
    I love that
