Confirmed today, you will be able to create an online league with your friends, make house rules, use your Diamond Dynasty collection and more.
Looking deeper into the video, and we have posted some screenshots below, it appears you can either create custom leagues with MLB Live 40 man rosters with trades or from your Diamond Dynasty collection with no trades.
Yesterday, it was revealed that MLB The Show 20 Custom Leagues will feature the ability to play with friends in a flexible multi-season experience with customizable settings.
Keep an eye out for other videos that are sure to drop prior to the livestream on Thursday.
I feel like this will be a MASSIVE new mode!
My initial reaction when they sort of announced it was they want to push towards e-sports and all the money that potentially entails and I figured this would be there way towards that.
Trades are confirmed now, but I’m thinking that’s the only kind of management that there is going to be.
A bunch of people on twitter screaming online franchise back is going to be disappointed I think.

So, maybe not a full Online Franchise, but having trades and roster management, it still sounds like more than just a postseason bracket thing. There would (I assume) be a season part within this mode also.
So maybe it's just one season and one postseason, and not multiple seasons like an online franchise would consist of.
Either way, sounds like fun with a group of online buddies!
Actually, to adjust my last post, according to the screenshot from Reddit, there IS a multi-season part of this Custom Leagues mode.

Yeah we already knew it was multi season. I think it’ll still be a fun mode with a great group but I’m not expecting free agency, etc.

The fact that you can choose between a roster or using DD cards as well? Perfection.

Buts it's still not online franchise.
No draft, no free agency, no minors, etc. Small, but good step. Unfortunately I do not have hope more steps will be taken to fully implement an online franchise again.

I agree and I do not think there's an option to use your own "custom rosters" which is a little disappointing. I am glad that theirs some kind of league format again, but I always enjoyed working on my own league rosters with pitch edits etc and using those.

They haven’t showed those things so they may well not be there. But there’s also no concrete evidence that none of those things are in to completely dismiss them as absent.

Look at the bare menus. They are not there.

That’s beyond a little disappointing. The ability to use custom rosters was the MAIN thing that drew my friends and I to Online Franchise back in the day. Not including that just means we won’t even touch the mode in all likelihood. Huge disappointment.

Agree with this take. At this point I'd be really surprised if there are any financials in the mode, but I'm hoping for at least some progression (and a draft/retirements to go with it). I could see it being a thing where players are just static and don't progress or regress, especially in the DD league mode where that almost HAS to be the case given the nature of team building in that.
I'm reading twitter and just laughing right now - you know it's going to be the same people screaming that online franchise is back that will turn around later in the week and accuse SDS of "lying" about bringing it back. :google:
All that aside, the idea of DD league with friends is pretty interesting. A few years back some of us here on OS organized one through the play with friends options, but having a league structure for it (and apparently being able to set requirements for the teams) has my attention.
Keeping my feet firmly planted on the ground until we know more.

I agree. I am not an online dynasty player but I feel for those that lost online franchise after 17 and even more so if the trend holds true and 17 servers go down in 2021.
I feel that if they were bringing online franchise back they would just say so so this makes me think this is more of a online DD gimmicky thing. Especially when the ad has them talking with Javier Baez. I can't see them bringing in an MLB player, even the cover athlete, just to bring back online franchise.

Yeah I mean there's "custom rosters" just not quite the ones you're talking about. But there's plenty of ways to make this a fantasy still which isn't a bad step.

Yeah there was actual league functions for FIFA to do this and so we did some tourneys and had a blast some years back with our FUT teams. I think as much as the hardest of hardcore might be bummed out in the end, I would bet this gets much more play and traction than old online franchise -- which isn't to say they can't build on this, I just mean as an initial offering this seems flexible for a lot of varying things in a way online franchise was not.
I'm already talking with a few friends about doing this because this seems right up our alley in terms of what we want out of a league.

Not in the screens we captured so far, but we didn't get a good look at all of the options yet.
If it was online franchise they would label it online franchise as they know that it would bring people back.

Thank you. I made the mistake of going to Reddit. Made a post basically saying what you did. And got blasted for it.
Reddit is good enough for info, just don't dive into the actual discussions haha.
Online MOM , with full management capabilities, would be really an exciting add to this great game.

I don't understand why people always ask about manger only mode why OOTP exists and is 10 times the better game.
And the fact you can watch the game if you want, there is absolutely zero reason to not get OOTP and play that if you’re into manager only mode, unless you do not own a PC of any kind.
(Pretty sure there's even a decent OOTP on tablet/phone)
But look I'm not saying peeps can't like what they like, just Manager Only Mode is a tough ask in terms of priority.
Hate to break it to you, gaming companies are going to offer minimal support for any sort of CPU v CPU mode in console games as it's an incredibly small and VERY niche following (though I can see it being a slight bump higher for baseball due to its history with games like strat-o-matic and so on).
As others have said, you truly would be much better off playing OOTP to scratch that itch and use The Show when you feel like playing a game.

I don't doubt the passion and loyalty of this fan base, but I think OS gives an atypical view of this particular subset of fans. I would guess a vast majority of fans who buy the MLB the Show games are there to play the games and not watch them.
I am not knocking how anyone plays the game they use their money to pay for but with this being a very low demand thing and with the existence of OOTP, this will never even reach their priority list at SDS.

unless they figure out how to make loot-box money off it.
In an ideal world we have all the OOTP Franchise management aspects integrated to the fully animated immersive 3D world of MLB20.
A kind of "Justin Trout" two-way player !!!

This is the dream.
The guy literally asked about manager only mode. That’s why he brought up OOTP. So yeah, OOTP is light years better for that.
