MLB The Show 22 Arrives on April 1 with the Xbox Game Pass Early Access Bundle

MLB The Show 22 releases on April 5 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and for the first time, Nintendo Switch. It will also be available on Day One for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. For those of you that can’t wait until the 5th, there is an Xbox Game Pass Early Access Bundle available for pre-order for $49.99 that gets you access to the full game on April 1.

Of course fans that purchase the Digital Deluxe or MVP Editions will get a four day head start as well with additional bonuses included, but some might want to go this route.

Here’s the rundown of what the MLB The Show 22 – Xbox Game Pass Early Access Bundle will get you.

  • Four Days Early Access for Xbox Game Pass Users (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S)
  • 2 Gold Choice Packs
  • 10 Show Packs
  • 1 Ballplayer Pack
  • Double Daily login rewards
  • 10k Stubs

Make sure to read the fine print though. If you’re not an Xbox Game Pass Subscriber, you will not get the four days of Early Access from this bundle. This bundle does not grant any entitlements to MLB The Show 22. If you are not an Xbox Game Pass Subscriber, it is not recommended that you purchase this product.

  1. Yeah, I saw that. $50 for some packs and 4 days of gameplay seems like a gigantic ripoff to me. I'll wait the 4 days.

I've talked about this in the DD forum, but this is very overpriced. Even if they don’t want to go the Forza route of just paying the price difference of the standard and deluxe editions, they could at least make the pricing make sense. The difference of standard and MVP is $15 and the difference for Digital Deluxe is $30, but what you get from this $50 bundle isn’t even as good as the MVP edition.
If you want to play early, you'd actually be better off if you bought the physical MVP edition, played that until it was out on Game Pass, then sell the disc or trade it in, you should be able to get at least $35 for it.

It sure does! Would have been fine with $20 max, but at $50 a complete ripoff. No thanks.

Yeah, I'd probably give them $20 today for the early access. $50 is crazy
I'd strongly consider it at $20. But $50 is just unreal. Games just keep getting greedier and greedier with their monetization

The MVP edition is only $84 which is like $15 more than the standard next gen version……. It’s a no brainer for me lol

Me too. I was gonna wait it out until the standard release. But I play a lot of franchise games on my PS4 Pro upstairs. It's a lot easier to keep tabs on my 2 year old daughter in a single room as opposed to the den in the basement. But it's only 15$ difference between the 70$ standard and MVP Edition and I can play this weekend. I'd be on here reading and jonesing to play the game the whole weekend anyway. Lol

I am attempting to understand this. I am a Game Pass subscriber and was just planning on playing the regular version of the game on April 5th for free. So as I currently understand it, the $49.99 only gets you the 4 days early access as well as some packs / stubs. So we all know that games at some point will be removed from Game Pass. If I get this deal does this mean I own the game and can play it 5 years from now when it has been removed from Game Pass?
If not I see this as a pretty big ripoff since I can spend $15.00 more for the MVP edition and actually own the game and play it years down the road. Or just wait and play for free on the normal release date and play it a year or two for free. Then if this version becomes a favorite, like many think of '20, I can buy the game for $5.00 retail when it leaves Game Pass.

That doesn’t work for games with a set global release time like The Show.

You don’t own the game with the $50 bundle

Been doing this for years with other games I don’t see why it would be any different this year

I do it too with games that have time zone dependent launches, just did it with WWE2K22 a couple weeks ago. But just like last year when it didn’t work, it doesn’t apply to The Show because it has a global launch time of 12am eastern time.

The more I think about it, the more I really don't get the price point.
I'm not going to be spending a single dime (directly, I know they will get a share of my gamepass sub) because the game is on gamepass.
Why not price it at $15-20? The people playing it via gamepass are more than likely willing to wait 4 days already and the hardcore players already purchased the special edition.
Big miss imo on their part.
I would love this but I can't justify it. I spent the morning weighing the options of this or just preordering. I'm just going to wait til the 5th and save the money. I always preordered on Playstation but switched to a Series S last summer. I can do without the preorder bonuses because I never play more than a day or two of DD.

I agree. This price point of $50.00 for me is unacceptable and doesn't reflect well on SDS.
Like many, I only play franchise so the stubs and such would be useless to me. So if i were to purchase this I would be paying $50.00 to play the game 4 days early. Maybe if it were like $15 as others have said it would be a thinking point.
For those that are into DD maybe it's acceptable, would love to hear their take on it.
As for me, a retired person living on a pension and social security it's just out of the question, I'll just wait the extra 4 days and play for free. Love the game but I hope this type of practice does not continue.

It’s not, especially when you compare what you get with this bundle to the MVP edition or Digital Deluxe.
Agree with most of you all. $50 is crazy to me. $20 tops is what I'd have paid. Not sure what caused them to choose $50, but I can't imagine it's going to be that successful of a plan.

If we do the New Zealand time zone trick, can we play at 3am eastern standard time?
You don't have to do any trick to play the game 3 hours after it's released.
Assuming you meant to ask if the time zone change trick would allow you to play earlier, the answer is no. The game isn't launching at different times in each time zone. It unlocks at the same time globally.

I bought the game and the early access version on Xbox.
I'd spend another $50 on top of it to play it now with my fam outta town the next 2 days.
This is a game I'm fine paying the premium on, by Feb 1 each year since 2008 I'm craving it.

I seriously doubt SDS had anything to do with it. They're the developer, stuff like price points are normally done by the Publisher. Which in the case of the Xbox (and Switch) release is, I believe, Major League Baseball.

That's because Madden had separate unlocks for each region. The Show doesn't.
The game isn't launching at different times in each time zone. It unlocks at the same time globally, so no trick will unlock the game earlier because when it becomes available in New Zealand, it will also be available in the US and everywhere else.

Yeah, if it was $20 I'd throw SCEA some money, but......not worth it for $50. There's too much going on this weekend anyways. That or a ten hour trial at the pre-release time for say $10.

EXAMPLE A of when GREED gets in the way of a good idea to make a few bucks.
Also makes me wary of any future microtransaction pricing from SDS.
They could have made more pricing it at $20 because 3x as many people would have bit on this. Corporate Greed Stupidity at its finest.

I splurged and paid the $50, I'm just a huge baseball fan and want to play early. Oh well. LGM

Heck I’m a gamer. I’ll get my $50 of enjoyment out of it.

I’m thinking about doing the same thing. I don’t want to spend 100 bucks to play early, but I want to play early… Soo paying half of that kinds seems worth it…

That's definitely how I looked at it. If it stays long on gamepass as it did last year, when I'm ready to buy it will be heavily discounted. Same thing I did last year.
    how are they losing money??
you do know it isn't 'free' people pay a subscription. there is probably a deal with Sony that they get a percentage of the sub money for it with Microsoft
Same with netflix people don't watch netflix movies or tv shows for 'free' they pay a subscription which netflix gain cash over and disibute with movie companies etc
SDS has no say in how long the game stays on Game Pass. The Game Pass deal is between Microsoft and the Publisher, who in this case is MLB. SDS is the dev but Microsoft doesn’t deal through them for this deal, they deal with the MLB. At least I’m pretty sure this is how this works lol.

That's my understanding as well. And I believe it's been said that MLB views the game being on other platforms as a growth opportunity for the league, a way to reach more fans. So they aren't so much interested in maximizing profits on the game as they are getting it onto as many screens as possible as a way to promote the game. I'd be surprised if the game came off Game Pass this year.

Speaking of getting the game on as many screens as possible, the PC is the largest gaming market and hopefully they release it on PC next year. I'm kind of thinking that they will release it on PC once they stop support for the old gen consoles.
