  1. Unfortunately in my opinion this does not look like a ps5 game. In fact, it doesn't even look different from last year's ps4 version. Call me crazy but I expected more.

What does a PS5 game look like? I have played several games on the PS5 that have had PS5 upgrades and while they all have better performance the graphics themselves did not change dramatically. Most of the added detail and processing seems to go towards lighting and RTX.
I believe the primary goal should be to hit a consistent 60 FPS at the max resolution and then slowly improve the graphics without hurting the framerate.
I honestly think many people just have unrealistic expectations about next gen consoles.
Man people are focusing too much on graphics if you ask me. I mean I love a realistic looking game as much as the next guy but man look at this...I think the lighting looks better than ever in this shot.

This with 4k 60frames is fine by me this year combined with the inproved fielding and create a stadium feature. When I watched the gameplay trailer in 4k hdr on my oled tv I was blown away. Having said that we’re still getting a next gen stream so I think we haven’t seen everything.
Why do people get offended when people say this game doesn’t look Next Gen ? People are always quick to defend SSD “what did you expect they always take 2-3 years for games to improve graphically”. It’s time to stop making excuses for them, there’s no reason for players to look the same way they did on PS3. The dirt and grass doesn’t even look like it was touched. I’m afraid the lack of competition has made them slack over the years. I intend on keeping my preorder because of create of stadium but if I didn’t have a ps5 good chance I would of skip this year version & played 20. By the way Spider-Man Miles Morales and NBA 2K21 definitely wow me on next Gen.

I doubt anyone is offended. LOL. It just shocks many of us the lack of understanding of how things work. It’s even more shocking people cry about graphics being “last gen” but then will whine when graphics get improved but gameplay stays the same.
It’s a lose lose for SDS in either case. People also need to stop comparing it to NBA lol. 2K is a hell of a lot bigger and has a lot more money for resources. Anyone can say that doesn’t matter until the cows come home, but that’ll just further show the ignorance on what goes into developing these games.
They added fully customizable stadium creator, a brand new platform, several gameplay changes, I mean, where you think the time is to overhaul the game just for next gen? That’s now how it works, I’m sure they’d of loved to greatly improve in that department but there’s only so many months in a cycle. You understand Spider-Man wasn’t required to be finished in less than a year right? Sports games are way different than games like that, or any non sports game, not a fair comparison at all.

What you're saying is silly. NBA 2K looks much better. So does COD. The Show player models haven't changed in 3 generations. The hair, the grass, it looks exactly the same as last year's game. Why even get a next gen console if there's no graphical improvement.

Man. That last sentence just shows the ignorance glowing in these types of posts. Holy cow.
as a gear head (like many others) I am very disappointed in the lack of new/updated gear. It also looks like they lost their New Balance license. Really hope the pay attention to some of these details moving forward. I may be alone on this, but it is frustrating that players do not have their actual licensed gear loaded in the default rosters and you can't edit them in DD. That would be a subtle, but tremendous detailed addition and probably wouldn't take much time. Anyone agree?

How about games like Uncharted 4? Amazing graphics. The graphics on the Show have become stale. Especially with the player models.

They have not released the PS5 graphics yet. This is the PS4 game running on a PS5 system. The next gen reveal isn’t until April 8.

Well someone showed a reply of an official developer at SDS who confirmed the footage of the gameplay trailer was from the PS5 game...

Wow so many players in MLB wear NB cleats. I hate to see them lose that one.

Do we know this for sure? Equipment is something that is probably part of finishing touches. We didn't see Nike catchers gear in the tech test so I guess we'll see.
And as far as the graphics go, if you played the tech test, you would see how much they improved on just the PS4. When you are sitting in front of your TV playing the PS5 or Series X version in 4K HDR if your TV is good enough for true HDR, I think people will be blown away.
And to the person who said the animations look jerky, you sure you aren't watching RBI baseball?

New Balance is still there. I saw Jean Segura with them on in the fielding overhaul video.

Just stop. He's not saying a new console shouldn't have better graphics.
Here's the thing, and I'm sure you've heard of it, it's called The Law of Diminishing Returns. Every new console generation deals with this. The leap in graphics get lower and lower as we move to the next-gen.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X are very powerful consoles. But they are also not anywhere near as powerful as high end PC's. Dev kits from Xbox were late getting to developers, and the PS5 dev kits weren't exactly super early. This made SDS' ability to take full advantage of the hardware a little harder. This is proof, not speculation.
And it's a well known fact that this game takes a couple years to start seeing a substantial increase in graphical fidelity.
If you think that it hasn't improved enough for you, then you can play 20 on PS5 and it looks and plays great at 4K HDR. If you can't get passed your expectations on graphics this year, then wait a few years.
And don't tell me well it should have lifelike graphics right now. They aren't developing the game for you. I'm sure they did their best with the hand they were dealt. If you don't believe that, then that's on you.
Sorry if this comes off being harsh, I'm more addressing everyone. I'm not trying to pick on you.

was Levi's a sponsor in '20? thats new then, in the mookie betts images. Levi's on the wall.

Where do you see the Levi's, which stadium?
Also I'll be interested if we get many new adverts this year. Last year, it was fun looking to see some of the new real adverts added (Chick-fil-a, Coke bottle in SF etc.).

I wish people stop comparing NBA 2K to MLB the Show graphically. 1. It has nothing to do with resources. 2. Small arenas always indoors, pretty much the same focus on lighting and less tha 20,000 fans to account for and many more...
MLB THE SHOW, has to consider outside, weather, day time, night time, rain, sun position large stadium with up to 50,000 fans, different dimension types in said stadium.
The things that Madden and MLB The Show have to do graphically are on a different level when compared to NBA 2k. Hell I didn't even touch on grass, and how the it should look and behave.
Graphic Budgets are on a different level.
well game looks great on my console

    A) those Dodger uni's still the wrong shade of blue
    B) the grass looked better in Pong. don't know why this developer had such problems
    C) the dirt isn't dirty enough
D)and that scorebug? ugh. where's the pitch count total? what is this, 1984?

The animations do struggle to blend together at times. It's not the worst I've seen, but it is noticeable to me personally. However, I also have a sensitive eye to that kind of stuff and can see inconsistencies that take place over less than a tenth of a second, which is a blessing and a curse. Something weird with having poor overall vision leading to me being more sensitive to that stuff. I don't get, I just know what my eyes do.

Ohtani picture?? wonder if they screw up his two way player thing for a 4th straight year now. they might get him right one year.. they had it almost right this year and decided to take away his pitching making him impossible to be a two way.

Hasn't it been confirmed there are two way players this year? I don't know why you would come to the conclusion there isn't by just a screen of Ohtani batting.

Ok well we were told that last year too... and Ohtani was a Two way player only he wasn't really when you started a franchise. you still had to give him that status yourself which took a month of the season. even though he should have already had it. it was locked the option for a two way.. so he never had it
then in August they decided to completely screw him up and making him a position player only. taking away any change of him as being a pitcher at all.. two way players only worked being a pitcher (if you put the effort in yourself) they made it impossible for him to be a two way player after they decided to do that. to change that because of a short season was ridiculous.
So sorry I have no faith that they will ever get this right with him when they keep finding ways to mess it up.

There’s also the Edgar’s sign at :50 of this video: https://youtu.be/RuIs0A6b1hU
Not a brand in the way others are (it’s a stadium space named in honor of Edgar Martinez, I believe) but it’s a new stadium-specific sign.
There is certainly a lot of love around this site and the folks who navigate this forums for the Show franchise and Sony San Diego. I personally have been playing this game since The Show 13 on PS3 without a skip in the years since then, but, and there is always a "but", there is no excuse for then to keep using player models that go back to the PS3 era, PS3!!!
That is borderline disrespectful to keep using then on this new generation of consoles. Just my two cents.

As an avid Ohtani fan, I think you need to slow your roll a bit man. They showed him pitching and then hitting in the trailer....
As for the rest, they probably took away his two-way status as he was only hitting instead of both after getting injured. Was that the right choice? No, but that's what they did.
Me personally, I would love them to unlock the two-way player option. It's silly to not let us go wild and make everyone a two-way player. If we wanna do that to our franchise then let us.
Since our RTTS player will be able to be a two-way player (thank god, only one save needed this year), I have a little more faith that they'll handle it a bit better this turn around.

We should have more than a handful of pre-sets at this point. Really, we shouldn't even be stuck using preset bodies only anyways. It's 2021, we should have had a system in place years ago that let you select any areaa of the body you want and enlarge, shrink, stretch, etc. it however you want within realistic confines independent of all the other body parts.
We should be able to go in and broaden shoulders, stretch the arms out for a longer wingspan, move the waist up and down without it making the torso any longer or shorter, etc. The fact that the entire roster of however many thousands of real players is restricted by 5ish pre-set body types with very limited levels of customization is substandard in this day and age.
Not every tall and lanky person is built the same. Not every short player is stout. Not every larger player needs to have a beer gut. If I want to make a man that is 250 lbs of pure muscle, I can't really do it in a great manner in the Show. The larger body styles have a really weird torso build with that strange stomach that causes the jersey to hang out in front of the pants half a foot.

Actually, I think the biggest culprit will be the overall artistry. Even if we had a game that was capable of perfect visuals in every which way, you still have to create those graphics.
Every studio is limited by their artists and animators, and of course time and money. SDS won't have the same resources as other teams, and something they could get away with during the PS3 years (with great visual results no less) might not be able to show itself the same way now that we're leaning toward perfection... not that we're there in this console generation.
All that being said, I'm definitely not a fan of the "splotchy" grass they've had in this game since PS2, or the dusk skies that they haven't been able to figure out since The Show 09 when they introduced them. Really wish they'd overhaul those (meaning start over from nothing), among other visual aspects of this game. I don't think it has anything to do with diminishing returns.
I think the thing that holds this game franchise back is trying to not break anything old in the process as they advance forward. As long as they do that, no matter the touchups they make, you'll always get some semblance of the game that we say 15 years ago... and I can attest to this because I've seen two recent videos posted on here about the evolution of this franchise.
    PsnHitman17
I laugh when people complain about graphics while watching a youtube video in 720p instead of 4k.

How do you know people are doing that? I watched it in 4K, but you wouldn't ever know. If you mean because of the shots they are posting here, you don't know where they might be handicapped in the process of capturing and uploading.
And look, I think I said it before here, but I don't know what the PS4 version looks like on PS5 compared to the PS5 version, but the largest improvements I see in this version have to do with resolution, framerate, and some textures. what I'm not seeing is the improvements you'd be able to catch even if you watched this in 144p, which might include things involving lighting, player models, and anything else that could use complete redesign.
It's the feeling of familiarity that's probably getting to most people, or the idea that "if I have to watch it in 4K to note the difference, then it might not be that big of an upgrade to me." And don't get me wrong, those two things alone are substantial as far as optimization goes... but I have to ask, isn't the PS4 version getting similar 4K/60 FPS optimization when played on the PS5? I legitimately don't know, so I'm just wondering how those two will compare to each other in this upcoming game.
    Husker_OS
They added a fully customizable stadium creator and we have people complaining that the graphics aren't improved enough in the PS5 version? Dude..

You can't... do that. That's not what this is.

He should Never have been taking away as a pitcher. that is like saying 'lets remove Kirby Yates from the game because he is not pitching in 2021.
It was a short season. there was no need for him to be removed and he did pitch in 1 game last year too. they built up all the talk of two way players last year then removed him from it in a patch. I mean he didn't pitch in 2019 too from Tommy John. yet Ohtani was still a pitcher that year.
I don't want 2 way players for everyone I just want 2 way players for people that are 2 way players!

Well with how they designed the game that was the only way to keep him from pitching when he was only hitting. It is how it is man.
He was the same last year as he was the year before. All roster updates had him as a hitter because, well, that's what he was.
Me personally I want to be able to do two way players as I see fit. It affects no one but me if I make the whole league two way players. FYI, they remove the restriction for all then this whole thing you're talking about isn't an issue anymore if he does get injured again, so if I were you, I'd be hoping for it as well.

Well the first year of this. you couldn't do anything with Ohtani apart from pinch hit him, what I had to do was burn a spot on the bench and use the call up and send down trick with a nobody to start as a DH and just sub him out first innings.
2nd year they improved on this You could at least DH him you just couldn't put him in the lineup depth screen.
last year they finally almost had it right the game would be programmed to have him in the lineup Automatically as a DH just not on days he pitched. (just not on the line-up screen)
Biggest issue with Ohtani as a pitcher here was that it counted as 14 pitchers on the Angels which took it over the rules of only being allowed 13 pitchers (those rules were suppose to be in place, this isn't the games fault however it is with Ohtani case)) so I believe because of this that is the REAL reason they made him a position player. because he counted as a 14th pitcher. however if they bothered to have the two way option on the game (rather then locked making it a useless option) then he should never have counted as a 14th pitcher. and they wouldn't have changed him.
Also if the game actually let us change pitchers to position players or vice versa we wouldn't have a problem here. they have to make this change and allow us to be able to do this.. I know I know the DD mode is the reason they won't to many people 'cheesing it' I guess.
anyhow yes I see they showed him pitching in the trailer but.. who knows what they have done this year with two way players because this is year 4 and they still have not got it right for Ohtani

With the fact that we can make a two way player in RTTS this year I have higher hopes than usual.
Also, just know this: It could be worse. Konami's solution to Shohei in its first or second year of Pro Yakyu Spirits when he played in Japan was to make two of him. One hitter and one pitcher (like Yahoo fantasy sports or whatever did). So you could potentially have hitter Shohei get traded and be on another team from the pitcher one. Also meant two roster spots were taken up instead of one.

that is my current solution now for MLB 20 actually but I control all the teams so trades like that can't happen. what I do is every 6 day call up the Ohtani CAP pitcher place in BP send down LR BP guy and pitch him. then send him back down to Class A (so doesn't get used ) and then call up again the BP guy you sent down.. that get's around the 14 pitcher rule as well. it's the only way to do it but it
    works.
at least when they had him as a pitcher you could have BOTH hitting and Pitching attributes. just as a hitter you can't have any pitching attributes so I will say it again it was a terrible call to make him a hitter only
One area I'd like to see a huge upgrade in graphics is with the managers, pitching coaches, base coaches, etc. Besides that, I'm trying to figure out just how much better the game can get graphics-wise with the players and stadium. It looks pretty dang realistic as it is now. With the ability of the next generation systems' hardware, I'd like to see more focus toward the CPU players' AI, the CPU coaches' AI as far as pitching substitutions, setting lineups, etc, the crowd's AI, and animation.
Have CPU-controlled players struggle and get hot from time to time just as the players on your roster do as the season goes, but more times than not, make it where you have to use a lot of strategy to get past the best hitters without getting it knocked over the wall. If you see Fernando Tatis, Jr., know you're going to have to bring your A-game in the strategy department to get him out. Also, make it where you see the CPU starter rolling out Jacob deGrom, you know hits are going to be a priceless commodity. Use the next-gen systems' capabilities to make the top players used by the CPU in any given game very intelligent and someone you don't want to face.
In short, I think the graphics are near perfect. I'd like to see the next gen focus more on improvements to AI and animations. Have a couple of other needed features such as names of managers and assistant coaches that can be edited. Making spring training games end in a tie if both teams are tied after 9 innings just as it happens in real life would be nice also. The wins and losses don't get counted, but the stats do.
My issue with the graphics is still the way the player models and especially the uniforms look. They just look stiff like they are made out of clay and don't seem like they are separate from the player themselves. The jerseys still animate exactly the same way they did on PS3 and it just looks dated to me. I spent the whole PS4 era hoping they'd add real, reactive cloth physics that never came, so naturally I thought the PS5 would surely have it. They've had it in NBA 2K and the NHL series for years. I mean MLB 2K8 had it on Xbox 360 for crying out loud. I know it didn't look amazing then but it's been 13 years since, Im sure they can make it look great now. Even though it was a bit exaggerated, seeing the jerseys react to wind added a ton of atmosphere and really grounded the look of the game in my opinion.
I understand that this is only the first year on the new gen and there will surely be improvements in the years to come, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed to see that the PS5 version of The Show's player models appear almost entirely unchanged.

You might want to go back and look at that last scene from todays legends trailer with Pedro there at the end. His uniform definitely doesn't look stiff to me.

It looks the same. There were wrinkles but that’s been there for a long time. The uniforms still look painted onto the players like they have since 08. I’ve given up on hoping for loose uni’s, I figure they’d just rather use that data resource for other things. Plus the fact that when watching real games their journeys don’t really move much anyway. That’s probably another reason they don’t add it.
More important than loose jourseys to me is the hair, especially players with longer hair. They it continues to look so awkward. They should consider bringing in another studio to help with it. Same for facial expressions, such as the managers in the dugout. It sometimes looks creepy the way their eyes move. Those things are more important to me.

I don’t know the cloth movement looked different to me. More pronounced. I never noticed the jerseys moving that much on previous versions of the show.

This picture is an example where I hoped the next generation consoles/SDS would step up their game. Dirt textures are still low res.

Damn that looks HORRIBLE for next-gen

Same goes for the backdrops of a lot of stadiums.
The stadiums themselves look absolutely gorgeous, especially on the ps5.
But, hit a homerun in San Francisco and you see what is supposed to be a 10 million dollar yacht looking like a drawing made by a 3 year old.
Not a big thing, i can live with it, but it just really looks off same as the grass and dirt.
