MLB The Show 21: Battle Royale Season 3 Program Includes Trevor Story and Al Leiter

Battle Royale Season 3 Program

Battle Royale Season 3 starts today in MLB The Show 21 Diamond Dynasty. The two top rewards added to the pool of 12-0 players now includes Awards Trevor Story and Milestone Al Leiter. These BR programs continue to be the best source of new silver and gold players as well, which is a fun way to make them stand out as you chase the top rewards either by going 12-0 or grinding out the missions in the program to get to the 12-0 rewards.

The Al Leiter addition is probably the more noteworthy one as he joins Fernando Valenzuela and Tom Glavine as top pitchers now in the game. This means three of the most “meta” starting pitchers are all lefties, which does impact roster construction for those of you out there trying to climb in Ranked Seasons.

Let’s cover all the new silver, gold, and diamond players, plus let’s go over all the other new rewards you can snag along the way.

Bottom Line

Again, the most obvious pick either for re-sale value or just for the “best” version of your team is going to include snagging the Milestone Al Leiter card. He has a sinker, cutter, curveball, slider, and 4-seam fastball. His velocity tops out at 92-93, but he has plus-plus control of basically every pitch but the slider. On top of that, he has 99 break on the curveball and 95 break on the slider. In general, it looks like a very strong card.

Awards Trevor Story is a diamond fielder and hitter, and he’s great from both sides of the plate. But even with his all-around skills, pitching is more at a premium right now. That being said, Story has all five tools and plays shortstop so it’s not a bad card by any means.

I’m personally looking forward to the Postseason Reggie Jackson card. I was underwhelmed by the Team Affinity gold Reggie Jackson, but I have mashed with Reggie in the past, so I hope this diamond version is a solid upgrade. If I still struggle with this card, I’ll just need to accept Mr. October is not in my wheelhouse this year.

Looking through some of the other cards, you know gold Khris Davis and gold Harmon Killebrew are going to be boom-bust power hitters who struggle to field their position. I really like Villar cards in the past, so that gold Villar could be a sleeper hit. With the silvers, the Chris Davis looks like a decent card from both sides of the plate, but otherwise there doesn’t seem to be any sleepers there. Perhaps Vida Blue out of the pen will still work out in long relief, but I never had a ton of success with the silver version in the past.

All in all, Battle Royale Season 3 in MLB The Show 21 continues to be my favorite recurring program. The balance of silver and gold players to go along with the top-end rewards makes grinding BR very enjoyable to me. The top-end rewards are what you should be chasing here because that Al Leiter card will be lucrative one way or another, but the gold players here will provide plenty of value as well.
