MLB The Show 20 Videos and Screenshots - March to October

Prior to the MLB The Show 20 livestream, scheduled for Wednesday (not Thursday!), March 4 at 3:00 PM PT, featuring what’s new in March to October, Sony San Diego Studios has posted a couple of short videos on the mode.

In the main menu screen, it shows a new rewards structure, trade management and call-ups are in. Also shown, you can earn Team Affinity at all 5 reward gates.

We’ve embedded the videos below, along with some screenshots. Let us know what you’re seeing.

  1. I will be very disappointed if they don't let you opt out of the rewards and use a custom roster, or do a fantasy draft. Maybe even let us do a rebrand/relocation, or maybe allow us to choose uniforms before games. I like the set up of MTO I just want more customization options.

Well said. This seems to be the mode they want to make franchise light, which is great but need more customization. Especially sliders, rosters and hopefully more than one season.

Any hint if injuries are in now ? Can't imagine call-ups & trades without it.
EDIT: ok just saw the 29sec video with barely 6-7sec of in game shots ( rest is the Sesame Street stuff). So unless I missed something, no clues. Doesn't mean injuries are not in tho.

Even if there isn't customer rosters, at least there are full minors

I'd say prepare to be disappointed.

Yep this mode is pointless. and it has been since October basically because of this. the fact you can only control 1 team too.
It's a good mode for a casual person though who doesn't care about all that stuff

Wouldnt you just trade all you're prospects for good players if the goal is win one season?

    Take away the rewards.
After that... You pay for the game and can play anyway you want.

If your only goal is to win the one season then yes, but I do believe that there is an option to roll the MTO team into a regular franchise team after that first season.
I personally only played through once at the beginning of the year last year so my memory may be faulty. I don't really have a desire to play it this year.
Just feels like this is a mode aimed at pretty much nobody, because it's trying to be aimed at too many different people and ends up just being half arsed. It had potential as a concept but crippled itself by trying to appeal to DD players, in the laziest possible way.
If they'd had any faith in the mode, they wouldn't have tethered it to DD, with all the restrictions that brings. I get maybe doing it last year, just to get people to try it (although there should always have been the option to opt out of rewards for added customization) but to do it again this year shows that they value the weak tie-in to DD over the actual quality of Mto

I think what they are TRYING to do is to reel-in the casual fanbase (both RTTS and DD players) into a fun, franchise-oriented mode (which frankly, is where this game really shines). But, franchise modes (no matter how well done) are just not fun to a lot of people and MLB in particular is rough (the grind of 162 games is daunting, the mode and roster rules are complex, there is very little hand-holding for what is a very deep and engaging franchise environment). There's a huge audience for something like franchise that isn't as daunting.
But, I think the mode fell really flat though last year...the majority of people who played it extensively likely being those who were grinding team affinity for DD. It was "cool" for like the first month of the season....but it was shallow, it was repetitive, games/outcomes felt scripted at times.
So no, I don't think they have any faith in the mode. And frankly, I don't think they should right now. I think they demonstrated "proof of concept" last year, but this is the year that they have to prove that it is fun and engaging.

I agree I did it once with my Jays, and that was it

to me, they tackled the problem ( long season, complexity to manage all franchises aspects) with the wrong angle.
Adding a new mod wasn't i think the best solution for users. They had something with Moments when simulating games. Why now enhancing it with more different types of Moments than just the 9th inning ones. It was a good idea to have those but more and more would be welcomed. It's a bit what MTO is, simulating many games and stopping on key moments or games. But why not doing all this on top of the actual Franchise engine ?
I know it's already sharing tons of code with the Franchise mod but imagine being able to get out ( if it's too long or bored) and get in but with all the bells & whistles MTO can provide.
I'm working for a studio developing a well known AAA open-world title so maybe you'll understand why I'm having that open-world vision of a baseball game :)
Maybe one day my dream will be achievable . You start a season as a franchise where after a month of trying to play all games, you switch to a MTO/Moments kind of simulation for a few months. Then why not playing the long months of July-August as one of your young prospects in a RTTS like mod before switching back to MTO to finish the season and do your OFFSEASON in a full franchise style. All that in the same unique season. You a season in play and how you can explore it (play) with the approach that fit your mood, style etc.. :bil:
You see I omitted the DD mod and online. On purpose, at work I've heard enough about loots & online gaming experience to get sick of it LOL
For those wondering, drinking green tea right now ! :smirk:
looking at Steve's screenshots, is the cameraman running around following Trey Mancini new, or have I just missed it before? I feel like I probably miss a ton of the little things, but that's okay, there is another ton I do see lol

It's been in the game for a few years now.
