MLB The Show 19 Closed Alpha Starts on December 13 - Today is the Last Day to Sign Up

Sony San Diego Studio announced their MLB The Show 19 closed alpha, during their Twitch stream today. If you missed it, you can watch the archive here.

This year’s closed alpha starts on December 13, with the main focus on hitting, pitching, bunting and online gameplay. Fans can sign up for the MLB The Show 19 closed alpha here, which is not a guarantee to gain access.

There are a lot of changes to gameplay for MLB The Show 19, many of which will not be shown in the alpha, but will be revealed during their Twitch gameplay stream, leading up to launch.

UPDATE: (11-27) This is just a reminder that sign ups end tonight at 11:59 PM PT.

Check out the details below and post your thoughts.

  • When:
    • Currently, our target date is from December 13th through December 19th.
  • How can I participate and play in the closed alpha?
    • You can sign up below for your chance to participate! Make sure you’re signed in, read the EULA, and hit the sign up button. Please note: signing up does not guarantee you access to the closed alpha test – participants will be chosen at random.
    • The sign up period will end at 11:59 PM PT on November 27th.
  • Can you stream or share content on the closed alpha?
    • No. If you do, you run the risk of getting banned from MLB The Show 19 and get your Twitch or YouTube channel banned as well.
  • Will there be multiple PCI options in the alpha?
    • All of them will be available.
  • How will I know I’ve been selected to participate?
    • Those that receive an invite will be notified in mid-December via the PlayStation Messaging System. Further instruction will be provided at that time.
  • Is the closed alpha available in all regions?
    • The closed alpha is only available in North America.
  • Will I be able to pre-download the alpha?
    • Yes. It will be available to download the day before the alpha.
  • Which modes will be available to play?
    • Events, Battle Royale, Play with Friends, and DD vs CPU.
  • How can I provide my feedback?
    • Similar to last year, we will have an exclusive forum built for those who are participating in the alpha test. If you don’t have access to the alpha game, you will not have access to the Alpha forums.
      • Access to the alpha forum will open once the servers are live.
    • We are also considering other ways of receiving feedback. Whatever is decided, we will make sure to let everyone know as soon as possible.

  1. Closed Alpha!
Also, looks like Ramone's on the mend.
There are some juicy gameplay tidbits. I'll let someone else throw up the screens. Bunting improvements, Faster pitch speeds in H2H, and HR/9 gameplay impact among them.
Closed Alpha is DD focused, but Play vs CPU within the mode is an option.

I'm thinking they will cover the different editions .

this sounds about right, maybe announce Canada's cover. might be a bit early for the twitch stream schedule, maybe after new years? or has it been being set this early? I forget every year lol

Yeah bunting needs it and Hr/9 being meaningful is exciting imo

Real talk - I'm pretty surprised about bunting being one of the first things mentioned about '19. It's not a "selling point" topic to say the least, but this obviously means that they've heard the feedback and are looking to/have addressed it.

yep, maybe file it under Little Things
might also be a positive sign for us franchise guys, maybe this is a step in the right direction for franchise to get plenty love in 19

I wouldn't get your hopes up unless they have committed more than one programmer to Franchise.

One thing they made very clear during this stream (at least to me) was that this was all related specifically to head to head online play, with some changes happening to vs. CPU play in Diamond Dynasty. I'm sure the feedback could be applied to offline, non DD play, but they made it clear their priority is fixing H2H online play first and foremost.
My memory's failing me a bit - last year did they do a signup (and hope you're selected) or was it just strictly invite only? I seem to recall it being just invites.
I think this is a better move as it at least ensures the people selected will actually participate.

    Just signed up.
Have to admit, seeing this on the alpha sign up page has me intrigued:
We are making a lot of changes to gameplay for MLB The Show 19, many of which will not be shown in the alpha, but will be revealed during our Gameplay Stream leading up to launch. Stay tuned!

I'm 99% sure it was invite only
Although this years had it's warts and I for sure had my gripes with some of the new stuff, this is still the best sports game on the market IMO. As a longtime player of this series I can't wait to see what's to come!
I’m sure it’ll ship with mostly really good gameplay with one issue. Then everyone will bitch so much about that one issue that they will proceed to nuke the gameplay over the course of several patches back to the garbage we’ve wound up with by all star break the last two years.

They got to do something or figure out about that online hitting feature they added to prevent lag where it hesitates for a split second when the ball meets the bat..I'm sorry but that is not baseball as I know it IMO.  It is awful to watch let alone playing with it.
I don't know how these Twitch streamers compete/play this game with that annoying hesitation.  But I give them credit..  I am old school so maybe I am the one out of touch with what's new in baseball games these days..lol

You know that’s purely cosmetic and only happens from the pitchers point of view. It has no impact on gameplay.

Any OS'ers picked? Did they happen to say how long an embargo on info from the participants would last?

When would we know if we were picked? May have missed that part. I thought it said sometime in mid december but didnt hear of a specific date.
