Mario Tennis Fever Tumbles Down The UK Charts After Explosive First Week

A major dip!

Mario Tennis Fever launched to good reviews across the board, and while the initial dedicated audience is busy unlocking all the characters, the game itself lost significant sales positions on the UK charts (h/t Nintendo Life). The game originally debuted at the second spot in the charts, but according to data from this week, it has lost five positions, dropping down to seventh place.

Leading the charge right now is EA Sports FC 26, Nintendo’s own Mario Kart World in second place, and the atmospheric horror game Reanimal. It’s not necessarily a surprise that Mario Tennis Fever lost positions in the chart, as February is usually a slow month in terms of games sales, as people are still hesitant to spend more on video games after a likely expensive holiday season. Of course, there’s also the fact that this is a $70 spin-off Mario game, making it a tough sell for some.

The Fans Are Loving Mario Tennis Fever So Far

While Mario Tennis Fever might not be dominating the charts, the people who are playing it currently have great things to say about it. The game’s multiplayer seems to be a strong suit, as people are enjoying the chaotic matches with other players. However, as one user on Reddit points out, it needs to retain a diverse player base to remain enjoyable for a long time:

“Hopefully it retains a nice player base where it isn’t just the same 100 sweaty nerds playing a year from now. After 5 hours or so I’ve hit B+ and I’m having tons a fun in my wins and losses. It’s like a fighting game without the need to lab for 100 hours to learn 3 combos.”

Ultimately, Nintendo needs to push consistent content and updates for the game to keep player interest high. According to most people, the game is already better than its predcessor, Mario Tennis Aces. But time will tell how it fares in terms of player engagement.
