Madden NFL 23 Closed Beta Extended to June 27 - Here Are Some Community Impressions

EA officially extended the Madden NFL 23 closed beta until 12 PM ET on June 27. The team is still sending out codes to random players that previously registered. For those that didn’t sign up the Madden Twitter account has been sending them out on occasion.

We posted our Madden NFL 23 closed beta impressions here and the community has been busy doing the same in our Forums. We’ve highlighted some of their thoughts below.

  • This game after 1 1/2 games, physics wise, gives me cleaned up Madden 13 vibes without all the silliness. Players do fall over each other but it’s in a much cleaner fashion. I have seen multiple player tackles, one example is where Ezekiel Elliott was running, got stood up by one defender, that defender was holding his legs and another defender came and pushed him down to the ground once his momentum had stopped. –jpdavis82
  • DB coverage seems much better so far. The A.I. has swatted a lot of my passes down. Offensive and Defensive line play feels better as well. I don’t feel like I’m glued to the O lineman when I’m rushing the QB. The A.I. QB seems to be making some good decisions with the ball. –JMD
  • AM defaults lost 21-17 (me Bills) vs Jets. I really love the pressure a good DL can put on your now. I can roll out on M22 with Josh Allen to buy time, but in the M23 beta more than not I’m hounded. The WR/DB interactions are so much better and it does appear to me that DB’s are much smarter and cover the field much better. –MizzouRah
  • Player models are the best they have been in this series. Still room for improvement but a nice step up. –49UNCFan

  • The A.I. defense is kicking my butt. I can’t play them like I always could in the past. they are smart ,they are quick to the ball, they seem to learn my favorite plays and shut me down. For the first time for me playing madden I have had to use plays I’ve never gone to before to keep drives alive , and at 2-4 I haven’t been very successful and I love it!!!!! –JMD
  • Ok guys …… shout out to equipment guru this year. …. This is not …… I’ll repeat …. This is not that madden you’ve seen in the past in regards to player models . The players are all overhauled. I’ll go even as far to say these are the best player models of any sports game I’ve played . It’s nice to see the 6 different areas where you can place the hand towel now. The games graphics are polished and are better than last year due to better lighting. –Brooke2011
  • DB, WR, ball interact points are completely separated and not garbled into some pre determined 3 way animation. If you user control a DB and misplay the ball the WR will catch it and leave you in the dust. I had a close replay of a contested catch, as the ball got to the TE’s hands it didn’t do that strange warp from years past where the ball turns at the last second to fit the receivers hands, instead it tipped off his pinky, then rotated again as Ramsey got a finger on it and it fluttered to the ground. Hard to explain, but again it’s never been in Madden before. –reverend_heat
  • Overall, this is the best running the game has ever had and I played a ton of M21 and M22. I think this might be some of the most fluid and responsive running in any sports title. It’s that good. CPU running back is also running for purpose now, they have a goal and run for it, feels awesome. –TheBleedingRed21
  • Pass Defense – pass defense is good for the most part, still some DB movement wonkyness at times in man to man when the receiver reaches the top of their route. For example, one time Travon Diggs was in his back peddle, the receiver does a out route, instead of jumping the out route (Diggs still in back peddle looking at the QB) he does a 360 turn for some reason allowing the receiver to be open for the catch. –Americas Team
  • Also, the head tracking by all players is vastly improved, I took a kickoff back for a TD up the middle of the field and when I cleared the last defender the ball carrier quickly looked over both shoulders, it looked like he was checking to make sure nobody was close to him like happens sometimes when a ball carrier breaks into the wide open in real life. Also had a deep throw to Diggs down the sideline, the safety switched between tracking the ball and looking at Diggs as he got closer, he jumped at the last second and knocked the pass away just before it reached Diggs and the CB. –reverend_heat

  • I always user edge rushers and I’m finding their penetration to be on a realistic level based on ratings. Myles Garrett is a monster. He doesn’t beat the RT every time, but he makes him work. I seem to get in the backfield either a bit late most of the time, which to me is realistic, or I get a sack here and there. I’m not really getting multiple sacks a game. Which again, is realistic. Most I’ve had with an edge is two in a game. I feel like that’s acceptable. I’m sure that will vary in both ways though depending on tackle ratings. –PVarck31
  • The WR/DB interactions remind me of an evolution of the ps2 gameplay. Nothing seems attached or tethered. Saw some pretty cool stuff play out. Had a WR go up for a catch, the safety broke up the play then the trailing DB added an additional hit. Looked pretty cool and totally seem less. –SageInfinite
  • coverage is better. Taking match out of default defensive play calling was a good move. I wish they could get man to match coverage logic right but so far they haven’t. So this helps there to be less blown coverages. Also way more than you would think don’t actually know how match coverage works and blow a lot of coverages because they actually mess it up. The option to use match is still there so that’s good. –charter04
  • Played Chiefs at Washington and saw my first real problem with the game. 4th quarter ended with a 17-17 tie ,into O.T. we go. I got the ball first and had to punt. Commanders (hate that name) drove down and their QB threw a beautiful pass to the corner of the end zone. The WR caught it but his left foot was out of bounds. The booth reviewed it and I thought cool I haven’t lost this one yet. The problem the call on the field stands!!! They called it a TD. This is one thing they just can’t get right , if there is going to be a challenge/review system , that system needs to work. The replay clearly shows the foot landing out of bounds but the wrong call was made. –JMD

madden 23 gameplay

  • – I think there’s a bit more balance around breaking the pocket with quarterbacks. Pocket quarterbacks aren’t statues in the pocket and have a bit more burst, but running quarterbacks also can’t break the pocket at will. I think this is a combination of the tackles generally setting deeper landmarks in pass protection and also more pronounced acceleration animations for QBs leaving the pocket. Additionally I noticed running QBs breaking far more tackles while escaping the pocket, which naturally slows them down but also makes the game feel more alive (and additionally might make the Anchored Extender ability actually useful?). –CM Hooe
  • Defense is more fun. Not a revamp or overhaul, but getting off the blocks are smoother. Also, had my cb covering a drag stop mid route, to jump and pick off a throw to a curl route he was in the path off. Beautiful is all I can say. –GoJags904
  • Definitely seeing too many tipped catches (mainly interceptions). Seeing some good results overall with some slider tweaks on all madden, hopefully sliders will affect the full game like they seem to be doing on the beta. –TheBleedingRed21
  • Man this Beta is aging like fine wine. Spectating, I see different things that I wouldn’t while playing. The lack of canned animations just makes the overall play so much better. For example, on screens, because runners don’t get sucked into animations, you see defenders that are trailing whiff realistically on tackles….they be ALMOST there but just can’t catch up and end up getting a face full of grass. The QB’s definitely put the ball in different spots. There is also variety in QB play. –TarHeelPhenom
  • I really hope defense doesn’t get nerfed. For the first time it feels like you can have a swarming defense in madden that gets 11 hats to the football. Seeing defenders stand up ball carrier then other defenders coming in with the peanut punch is a thing of beauty. I know the defense will get nerfed, at least a little bit, to appease a certain crowd but this beta defense has been very refreshing. –SolidSquid

  1. Played 1 game.
Defense seems better. Out breaking routes still get way too open however.
The new tackling...I mean I guess it's there. I can't see much difference honestly.
    Player models have more variation.
A lot of updated player headshots which is nice.
It's madden. Like it always is and always will be.
Some of the new sound effects are wonky. Hit sticks sound like car wrecks. The "woosh" sound effect on some passes is back.
Idk. Gotta play more. But not impressed tbh.

Not sure if this is allowed but if not delete.
First thing I do notice is the game feels different and in a good way. More varied player models and everything is silky smooth.
The main difference in gameplay I'm seeing is pass rush is there for the Rams vs Bengals O line.
The animations no longer suck you in and the player response is a lot better.

how good is man and zone man coverage : fieldsense ??

It’s improved but haven’t had a lot of time. I made a sick user play with Ramsey no hiccups and it was a smooth transition with the interception.
Also had a Defensive P.I called already

would we able to play against cpu in beta ? i want see how smarter does cpu play on higher difficulty
Visuals and player models are fantastic. I have a 65" Samsung S95b OLED TV and it looks incredible.
Pass rush is much improved and I'm trying to figure out the new passing system. I've seen a variety of new tackles as well.
Going to play into the night and I need to find a guide on the passing system. (might have to turn on the slow down on it until I learn it)

how long does EA emailed you beta code ? i am waiting for mine. i registrated it on June 27.. can you play against cpu in beta ? can you choose any team to play ?

I got it today.. don't remember when I signed up.
Yes you can do play now against the CPU, that's what I've been doing.

This game has potential to be great. Visuals are EXCELLENT on QD-OLED

    You have one too? :)
It's incredible what they have done this year with player likeness and visuals.. even with the beta glitches.
Hey guys, more information about the Madden 23 Closed Beta is at this link. This document answer questions about available platforms, mode availability, player ratings, and other general procedural questions.
That out of the way, let's try to keep this thread focused on football gameplay impressions authored by those who have played the beta. Thanks!
Let me start by saying in Madden 20 ,21 and 22 I have spent all my time in MUT because I found no challenge in playing the CPU.
I'm on the Xbox series X , just played my first game. All Pro default sliders. Chiefs - me VS Rams - CPU at Rams 6:00 quarters accelerated clock off. The game felt much better to me. I had a tough time passing. Mahomes was 12 for 21 with 1 TD and 2 INT's and a 13 yard scramble. I used two HB's one was 7 for 29 the other 5 for 38.
    Receiving:
    Kelce - 4 for 30
    Edwards - Helaire - 3 for 18
    Valdes-Scandling - 2 for 17
Jones ll - 1 for 9 from Chad Henne (Mahomes was tired after his run and big hit)
    Smith-Schuster- 2 for 48
    Hardman - 1 for 5
    I won 31 -3
Based on how the CPU played me the game would have been much closer if not for the turnovers. I had one pick 6 and I caused 5 fumbles using the right bumper (strip ball) and Stafford fumbled when I hit him with Jones.
Obviously the strip ball feature needs adjusting. I'm going to refrain from using it next game. going to play Buc's - CPU at Chiefs - me.
Only one game but things look and feel promising.

Just lost to the Buc's , Buc's 22 - Chiefs 21. I messed up on a kick off , I thought I stayed in the end zone but when I caught the kick off my toe was on the field and I just stood in the end zone , safety for the Buc's , cost me the game.
DB coverage seems much better so far. The A.I. has swatted a lot of my passes down. Offensive and Defensive line play feels better as well. I don't feel like I'm glued to the O lineman when I'm rushing the QB. The A.I. QB seems to be making some good decisions with the ball.
Next I'm going to play a team with a scrambling QB to see how often they run for it.

on which diffifculty ? how good is WR/CB interaction ?

Could be a beta thing, but I also like how quick your taken to the play call screen after the play is over.
It definitely has a "next gen" vibe to it with player models, jerseys, lighting, etc...
Not sure I'm into the new passing mechanic.. maybe it will grow on me, but for the 2nd half I went back to classic passing. (I have enough to worry about avoiding sacks)

Skill Based Passing is a feature I have dedicated a lot of time to this year.
Lots of customization to the way you move the reticle, the distance you can free-form your passes and the visual feedback you receive.
For the record, I only play with Skill Based Passing

Listen to a chat about the Beta, folks are already complaining that defense is too hard.

This what I hate about the Madden beta phase... we typically see something refreshing, like this year's much improved defense and they will do a 360 due to complaining.
They need to be able to truly separate simulation mode from the other modes.

Any meaningful differences in presentation? I know the cover reveal mentioned that there would be “remastered” John Madden audio in the game
Sent from my iPhone using Operation Sports

I’ve played the beta every year for the last several years, presentation is usually the last thing they add to the game. There were quite a few presentation updates from beta to retail last year and I expect the same this year. Stadium sounds and songs aren’t in the beta versions. One noticeable difference to me is the player models and the way their jerseys fit, they don’t look painted on and shoulder pads look like they fit more natural now too, some of the bigger players(DTs) have somewhat baggy looking jerseys now. The TD celebrations do have that 4K feel with the blurred and camera and the presentation style is similar to what Fox has for TD graphics minus the animated player model celebrating.

Can anyone let me know if they added any face scans for the Bucs? Specifically Carlton Davis III and Jamal Dean.
Also how do the new body types look for similar tall/lanky corners?

How does the new player models look . Any new equipment . Towel placement was added , anyone notice variations?

Player models are the best they have been in this series. Still room for improvement but a nice step up

Can someone please advise if there is an option to turn off HFA/Momentum? thanks!

I’m wondering if you can disable the annoying pop ups that were there last year. And I’m somewhat surprised they didn’t try to build on HFA this year.

Hopefully they at least did some tuning to it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it display in the same area as the defensive adjustments, or am I confusing it with something else?

Ok as I said in my first post in this thread I switched to MUT in the last 3 madden games because I found playing the CPU to be boring and very little of a challenge. I could start a franchise and win every game no matter the settings or sliders.
So far in the beta this is not the case. I've played 6 full games , all on Simulation , All Pro, 6:00 quarters , Accell clock off, default Sliders, Changed the passing to classic. I'm 2-4.
I use the Chiefs ,always have ,always will.
    Games:
    1. At Rams - Won 31-3
    2. Vs Bucs - lost 22-21
    3. Vs Ravens - lost 31 - 24
    4.At Dolphins - lost 24-21
    5.At Packers - lost 17- 3
    6. Vs Bills - won 13-10 Bills kicked a field goal to tie with 47 seconds left. I had all 3 time outs and had to play smarter than I ever have to get in FG position to get the win with 3 seconds left on the clock.
The A.I. defense is kicking my butt. I can't play them like I always could in the past. they are smart ,they are quick to the ball, they seem to learn my favorite plays and shut me down. I hope so very strongly that EA does not dumb down the A.I defenders. I haven't had this much fun or this much of a challenge from Madden for a long long time. I had no plans to buy Madden this year ,if the game remains like it is now ,where it feels like I'm playing football , I'll buy day one.
EDIT: Forgot to mention: In past Maddens playing against the CPU I could always go for it on 4th down and be successful. I've tried it 3 times so far in the Beta ,been shut down every time. I'm not trying it again ,cost me 2 wins, had I not recklessly turned the ball over in the 4th I probably would have beat the Ravens and Dolphins.. Can't play stupid football anymore. That's a huge plus.

I wasn’t able to check last night because the EA Servers were down. I’ll check today and let you know. As far as my Packers go, they have scans for Dillon, Watson, Watkins, Wyatt, and I think Quay Walker and Elgton Jenkins. Jenkins has the same multi colored face that the new coaches have so I think it’s a placeholder for new scans that weren’t added yet. Bakthiari and Preston Smith look like they might be updated, won’t know for sure until I see them without their helmets on. No scans for Clark, Stokes, Campbell, Douglas, Amos, Lazard, and Tonyan as of this beta.

I just made a thread questioning if the CPU still borring and easy to beat
What about CPU QB play???are they making smart throwing decisions and not throwing the ball with dink and dunks every down especially throwing the ball away when he even smells pressure
And deep balls do they throw enough 🤔

It depends on the QB. I played the Seahawks and Lock was horrible ,threw INT's ,held on to the ball to long and got sacked. Played the Bengals and Burrow picked me apart both with short passes and a couple deep balls. So far in the 8 games I've played the top players play like top players.

Can someone do a test cpu vs cpu and see if the AI still kicks FGs in the 1st qtr for no reason, or late in the 4th when winning from the 50 to give good field position to the opponent?
Also, are timeouts updated for halftime and end of game situations or is this all about more balance to stop the cheese that should've never been in the game to begin with. It's improvement thi, IL give em that.

I just made a thread questioning if the CPU still borring and easy to beat
What about CPU QB play???are they making smart throwing decisions and not throwing the ball with dink and dunks every down especially throwing the ball away when he even smells pressure
And deep balls do they throw enough
On next Gen they play decent and scramble as well. Even had jordan love looking like Brady in year 5 of my franchise at a 72 overall lmao. Ratings outcomes are horrible tho. Jump balls, pressue/blocking. It's more a crap shoot on those than anything.
Running and passing qb play has been improved on ps5 for me. It's the dumb TO and situational playcalling that needs the most tuning. Feels too scripted each game and every QB can put up over 300 yards regardless of defense ratings

That's what I'm experiencing so far.
Plays that always worked for me in the past:
    1. Singleback - Wing Slot - PA Y-Drag Wheel - this play was always good for 25 yards or more every time ,not now. I used to go to Hill on this play ,scramble to the right and hit him wide open down field ,now it's Hardman. Hardman is a 97 speed and he is covered tight 95% of the time. I tried this play 10 times , I was successful once , got picked off 3 times , sacked twice and the other 4 attempts were batted away.
2.Singleback Ace TE drag - again I could hit Kelce every play with this if I wanted. Now he's open if I hit him quick ,but if I let him cross the field like I usually do he's better covered and the pass gets broken up. He gets open some times but not every time like previous games.
3.Strong - Pro Stretch Alert X Lookie - this was my go to run play ,5 to 15 yards every time. Now 1 to 3 most times with the rare break away for 7 to 10 yards. The A.I. pursuit to the ball is on point.
Once again it all depends on the team you're playing. A top defense is more challenging then a weaker one. It never seemed to matter before.
Honestly the way I feel about this game right now is it's to good to be true. I'm just waiting for a patch to come along and ruin it. I really really hope that does not happen because I'm having a blast.

Ur getting me excited. Crossers were deadly as well as pursuit needed a boost to set the edge and fill the gaps/running lanes faster, instead of after 2 yards minimum before contact. A clean up is good to me tho, because gameplay is aggravating at times; but it can be fixed easily with tweaks in its current state.
    2 Questions....
I'm reading line play is more organic on both sides an less insta sheds or non aware blockers from random guys, is this true?
Also do players still insta shed when hitting the hold most of the time are is the blocking decent with or without pressing R2 to sprint? Before any press of spring meant insta shed an only running normal would allow for open lanes etc.

All of this sounds decent until EA starts patching the game. EA did the same thing with player movement for ‘22. I recall one of the developers saying users would have to get used to it and “let it breathe”. So much for that.
With that said, how is player movement on the beta? Any weight to the players or are they still moving the same with no respect to weight and/or momentum?

Can anyone let me know if they added any face scans for the Bucs? Specifically Carlton Davis III and Jamal Dean.
Also how do the new body types look for similar tall/lanky corners?

Dean yes, Davis I’m gonna say maybe but probably not just because it kinda looks like him but the eyes look generic. The body types look good.
Can anyone comment on weather ? One of my biggest disappointments with 2 releases into current gen and we still have the pathetic looking weather system for both snow and rain. Please tell me they have improved it!
Ok guys …… shout out to equipment guru this year.
A lot of player faces have been updated. It looks like there is a new spat around the cleats this year.
If your a graphics , player authenticity guy , yoour going to be very pleased this year.

Hows QB evasion this year? I always feel like the QB's never break a sack attempt enough.

Because we heard similar things in previous betas, once they mix everything in the retail version it sounds fine. A couple years ago I remember a distinct whoosh sound when you threw a bullet pass in the beta, but when the retail version came out it was either tuned way down or not able to be heard altogether.

After more time with the new passing, I don't think I'll end up using it and will probably go back to classic. There's too much going on for me with the meters and what not and slowing it down looks weird during game play. I end up spending more time trying to get it perfect with the L stick and I take more sacks. (I hold final judgement after a tutorial/practice mode gets added)
It's been hard playing M22 now though, since the players look so much better and running looks more realistic with the different styles.
I've tried the light/heavy rain and light snow (there is no heavy snow option) and I don't really notice a huge difference from M22.
Presentation is different and looks good, I like the TD graphic with the team and player. The UI is a light blue with a neon yellow.. looks good actually. The players really look great during presentation as well.
There are quite a few feedback posts complaining about defensive pressure and I'm doing my best to express my thoughts on how much I actually like it. It feels much more like a real NFL game where you have to make quicker decisions or risk being sacked. Add that with the better DB awareness, and I actually feel like I have control on defense.
I'm definitely enjoying it and default AM has been a good challenge. I should get a good amount of time with it this weekend.

Also I no longer feel like I'm glued to the offensive lineman when I'm playing defense. I can shed him , I can push him , I can move him around as he can with me. Some games I've got 1 to 3 sacks ,some games I've got none.
I'm sure this will differ from person to person depending on play skill and style.
I played all day yesterday. Many full games vs the CPU. If EA listens to the Football crowd and does not cater to the "online competitive" crowd this will be a very good game.
A few more notes: Now that I've played 20 or so games and I've got the feel of the game down it has got a bit easier , but by no means is it like previous versions. The CPU has given me some of best competition and hard fought games I've played since APF 2K8.
Things I have to do differently: Things I've not seen before:
    1. Get rid of the ball more quickly , I have only 3 to 5 seconds to find my open man.
    2. When a pocket forms use it. I never stayed in the pocket , always dropped back 5 to 7 steps. Now when there's a solid pocket formed I get an extra second or two to throw. But because you're closer to the linemen beware of the tipped or batted down pass.
    3. I've punted and kicked more field goals than I ever have in any football game. Going for it on 4th down is not a gimme anymore. The situation - it was 4th and inches , 42 seconds left, 2 timeouts ,I'm down by 3 and I need about 12 more yards to get in FG range. I think surely I can run behind my fullback and get an inch??? NOPE , they flattened my ***. Game over man...
    4. Blocking kicks is a thing. I've blocked one field goal and one extra point. at the line out of the 3 guys with the icon over them take control of the most inside guy. Watch the snapper ,if you can jump the second he moves you may burst through the line for a block. It's a thing of beauty.
    5. I hit the A.I HB to tackle him , he stiff armed me , we hand fought for a second or two and pushed me out of the way and carried on , it was King Henry by the way.
    6. In previous Maddens when I got burned deep I'd see my A.I. defender no where near the WR or TE. Now every time I've been burned by a deep ball it's because I messed up. Example: CPU was killing me with the run I went to Bear - pinch to stuff the run , oops 47 yarder to a wide open Ja'Marr Chase , burned!!!! Before when that happened I'd say ,well that's Madden , now I say I'm an idiot.....
    7. WR/DB interaction - I'm seeing some real good stuff. Previous Maddens if I'm controlling the DB and I'm in position 10 times out of 10 I get a pick or swat the ball away. In the Beta I've seen the ball go over or through my defenders hands and the reception is made. Also if my Defender is shorter than the WR ,the WR will jump higher and snag the catch. Watched it in replay and it looked nice. It's also worked in my favor on offense.
    8. Shoe string catches - I've seen a few of these , I threw a pass that was tipped and as it fluttered like a duck to the ground, Smith-Shuster caught it 2 inches before it hit the turf. Also have seen the A.I .make a couple of these , nice.
9.I've already seen more plays reviewed by the refs than I ever saw in Madden 22. They have been in the correct situations too. Sideline catch , cross the goal line , Fumbles...
    Lastly wonky things I've seen:
    1. Threw a deep ball to Hardman ,it bounced off the defenders helmet and he caught it.
    2. Weird player collisions - don't know how to explain this , just some times during a group tackle the player movements look strange.
Only complaint is the lack of penalties. On default all I've seen is roughing the passer and illegal man downfield. I'm turning them up from 50 to 55 to see if get some others called.
I like this game ,with just a few minor tweaks EA will have a gem here. I hope they don't go overboard with it.

Played 2 games last night, Super Bowl rematch you are allowed to play once the game installs to a certain point.
My main gripe with Madden for untold years is how there is never dynamic outcomes, I had multiple in the 2 games I played. Stafford threw a long pass to the corner of the endzone, WR high pointed it, I was late w my DB but managed to hit him in the waist in the air and pushed him out of bounds and he only got one foot in, have never seen a similar play in any Madden game before.
Another example was Tee Higgins caught a pass over the middle/right hash area of the 50 yard line, multiple defenders started a gang tackle but he broke out of it organically and housed it. Again, the way that play happened isn’t possible in any Madden ever released.
DB, WR, ball interact points are completely separated and not garbled into some pre determined 3 way animation.
I personally love the limited amount of time to throw, haven’t been that aware of a CPU defender in forever, Aaron Donald was in my face constantly, I was actually trying to keep my eye on him immediately after the snap because he kept beating double teams. When is the last time you felt organic consistent pressure from one area of the Dline in Madden?
Blitzing a middle LB feels great, if the Oline is engaged in blocks and you see a big gap to the QB you can shoot it and not get sucked into a blocking animation, that really stood out to me.
My biggest takeaway is that there are dynamic outcomes while interacting at the catch point, suction animation triggers are almost completely removed, and usering on D in and around the trenches feels really good.
People who wanted smaller shoulder pads will be happy, a lot of players look like they aren’t even wearing any.
I played 1 partial game after the game fully installed w GB. It seemed like the Packers and Vikings front jersey numbers were super tiny, no idea why but hopefully that is just a beta hiccup that hasn’t been fixed.
Super early but very promising feel to the game,
my biggest worry is of course people will complain about the difficulty and EA will cater to that and ruin the dynamic gameplay. Have to play a ton more but I am definitely liking it so far.

Player movement has been overhauled, all that canned interaction from the last few games seems non existent. Best way to describe it would be total control. It does not feel like the game takes over during a play interaction. I really wish EA allowed videos so you guys could see this stuff. To be honest I’d pay $60.00 for the game as it is now.

I'm sure this will differ from person to person depending on play skill and style.

So here is my take in regards to the game getting nerfed beyond recognition. And please, if you think I'm wrong, tell me, I may well be.
We're going to start with the end of the madden 22 cycle. Now, I don't know whether you're on twitter or not, but Clint admitted after the MCS that they made a mistake with defense. That it was a bit too loose.
People rode his behind all year due to it and truth be told have been for a while. In addition, the game has been receiving poor reviews for a while now. So he and the team are caught on the horns of a dilemma, keep making the game too easy or batten down the hatches a bit.
One thing that also leads me to the beliefs above is this, again if I'm solo on this experience, chime in. Over the last month or two, with the last patches, madden 22 became a bit harder, on default. All of a sudden my 7 to 8 yards a carry turned into 4.2, 4.5, and the occasional 5.5. Passing d tightened up (not like 23's is lol man!) But I went from throwing 8 to 9 yards per air yard, into the 6.8 to 7 is range, the average in the nfl is around 6.5.
And this was all at the tail end of 22, it was almost as if it was foreshadowing..
With the new passing mechanics, they can't afford to touch pass coverage much. Because some in the mut crowd will master it, and you won't be able to stop it. If anything, they may tune the pass rush, not the speed in which they get there, but rather the win chances. Fortunately that part can be tweaked with sliders, if need be. Just my 2 cents, it's worth what you paid for it.
My hope is that they leave things alone and only do very minor adjustments. If they go nuts they will ruin the game.
Today I'm going to play the Chiefs 2022 Schedule.
I'm playing the Cardinals now ,away game. 4th quarter just starting ,here are some stats:
    Score - 14-13 Chiefs

    Murray: 13 for 17 for 147 yards , 76% , 1 TD
    Kelce: 4 for 91 , 1 TD
    Smith Schuster: 2 for 10
    R. Jones: 1 for 18

    Brown: 1 for 9
    Matt Prater 2 FG's , long 54
    Both teams have 2 sacks
and now back to the game....
Ok EA is toying with me now, started the 4th quarter , nice drive scored a TD , it's now Chiefs 21 , Cards 13. Held the Cards and they punted. 2:00 warning. I throw a short 5 yarder across the middle to Kelce , he catches it and starts running. The Cardinal defender approaches , makes a fist with his left hand and punches the ball out!!!! WTF!!! This is freaking amazing.
I had to take still shots of it so when we are finally able to post pics in the future , I'll have proof it really happened. I've never seen this before and it was so organic and real looking. Impressive.

Completely agree... it's a beta so there are glitches, but I can't stress enough how much fun playing defense is now. I use the Bills and Von Miller causes all kinds of havoc.
I can't wait to hear more people's thoughts, but I can't stop playing.
I have an LG, it's only a couple years old and has HDR. Maybe need to turn that off or something, I can't seem to figure it out. Are you on PS5, does the lighting look good to you?

Can you post it under the M22 photography page… we will act like we don’t know.
    Really interested in this shot.

    You have one too? :)
It's incredible what they have done this year with player likeness and visuals.. even with the beta glitches.
I would've waited a year with the structure of that panel. Hopefully they move away from that pixel structure for future iterations.
I’m not sure how anyone is fussing about coverage being too hard. Im tearing it up Ryan and the Colts. Last game.. 11/11 160 yards 2 TD to start on All Pro.. I am using the full control passing (power and accuracy).
Sure hope nothing gets nerfed lol.
Overall, graphics are absolutely fantastic and gameplay feels great as did last year for the most part. Running feels more… controlled? Definitely feels great.

Yeah that animation is incredible to see but it doesn't trigger much in the game.
It's actually been in the game as far back as NCAA 14.
Lot's of hidden animations you can see more in straight CPU vs CPU as opposed to Human vs CPU.
    XSX/AM defaults/Classic passing
More random thoughts after getting my butt handed to me by the Commanders.
Jersey numbers look fine for linemen, but for QB's, WR's, etc.. they are too small, at least on the front of the jersey. Not a huge issue, just looks odd to me.
Towels are more noticeable to me, I don't remember seeing the holder on a FG have his over his leg before.
Stadium announcer sounds better, more realistic.
Unless a replay is going to trigger, the playcall screen comes right up, small thing but I like that.
Playbooks are tweaked at least playing as Buffalo I'm seeing more variety when using coaches suggested.
When playing Washington, Chase Young was matched up against a 65 OVR OT and he was beating the crap out of him.
Speaking of the pass rush, I've already mentioned how much better it is, but there are times when they seem to miss the assignment. I had to use my check down many times as they were blowing my OL up.
RB's block much better, there was a play where my RB had nobody to block, so he swiveled behind me to block Young and kept the pocket in tact.
CPU QB's seem good at finding open areas when the pocket breaks down and at least try to find someone to get it too.
Some QB throwing animations need cleaned up as they look weird when the QB releases.
Not much in the way of penalties or injuries on defaults. I'm hoping that's just a beta thing. (I'm guessing this is a very early build)
I'm looking forward to franchise mode when they open that up.
I've played several games all against the cpu.
I've mixed in games on pro and all pro
    Pros:
pass rush is fantastic, leave it alone
Pass defense is much better, again, leave it alone
The new tackling system is refreshing.
New player models and shoulder pads look fantastic, game finally LOOKS next gen.
I love the new passing mechanic, it has a feel of control that of APF 2k8.
    Cons:
Cpu qb play still leaves a lot to be desired-
They do not attempt enough deep or medium range throws, lots of dinking n dunking.
They still instantly snap the ball at line of scrimmage
They don't try to draw you offsides
    They rarely, rarely audible
They move around in the pocket, but rarely take off and scramble past the line of scrimmage.
    Playcalling needs a revamp
Cpu playcalling is bad. 3rd and 5 from the opponents 12 yard line, yup let's call 4 verts.
4 verts in general is called/suggested way to often
User playcall suggestion via gameplan suggests the same plays over and over, utilizing what feels like about 50 plays out of a 300+ play playbook.
That's it. I feel like if they fixed the bugs and worked on what i listed above... This would be the best playing Madden since 08 (ps2 version) or Madden 05.
Ok, finally got my hands on a code a few hours back.
Lets begin shall we (might be a long read, get your popcorn and soda):
Quick recap - If anyone paid attention to any of my previous posts, you know I'm a huge fan of next gen 21 due to the heavy/organic gameplay, 2 and 3 man tackles, etc, in my opinion the best of the entire Madden series on the field. You also know that I'm NOT a fan of next gen 22 due to the physics regression (the game was severely nerfed after patch 1.7). I uninstalled 22 and have been playing 21 since then. I'll say at this point, I can put 21 to rest.
    Thoughts on 23:
Gameplay in general is VERY smooth and polished. Player models appear to have been updated, I'm figuring to accommodate the new physics engine (I could be totally wrong here). If you're a stickler with attention to detail, you can tell around the waist/butt area of the players that the skeletal models have been adjusted for more points of movement/impact. They look great overall, much better than all previous iterations of the game.
Shoulder pads across the board are very small and streamlined, probably a bit too small for the lineman as it appears that they don't even have shoulder pads on! It looks strange, but I'll take into consideration that the pads may be able to be edited as usual to increase and decrease size (you cant edit in the beta). (To note: Observed a player model with the beetle juice head again, head is way too small for the body. It was one of the guys on the NYG squad, only one I saw but that player model does exist)
Overall gear looks good. Towel placements around the entire circumference of the waist is a nice touch. Looking forward to see everything thats in the editing suite with full release. Jerseys look more separate from the body (once again around the waist area).
Player movement 2.0 is in full effect. I'll have to play a few more games, but at the moment it doesn't seem as "heavy" as 21, but not as light and quick as 22 after they nerfed the physics. Movement sits nicely in between the two, not as heavy as I like, but also not so light and twitchy as 22, so we're good there for the moment. Running animations look decent, although there were some instances where it looked off (not sure if the player was supposed to be tired or what). Transfer of weight and momentum is done nicely.
Collision system has returned to full on 2 and 3 man tackles (haven't seen a 4th man interaction as of yet). Its very similar to 21 except you can tell that its more physics based but still has a healthy animation base blended with it, more loose if you will. More of a rag doll effect in many instances.
I've attached two vids from next gen 21 with 3 man interactions, in the second video you can see a third man attempt to punch the ball loose. These types of interactions have been brought back to 23 but with more polish in many instances (they were completely sanitized from 22 if you paid attention):
    1. https://twitter.com/KingMadeMusic/status/1531723582903963648?s=20&t=kDoTT7zodOoF1RRUUCgCGQ
    2. https://twitter.com/KingMadeMusic/status/1484585223010471938?s=20&t=kDoTT7zodOoF1RRUUCgCGQ
WR/DB interaction is pretty spot on. Devs were able to integrate the cool 2 man interactions from 21 with the separated interaction of 22 (if that makes sense to you), VERY organic and feels great.
Line play is cool, I need to see more. Observed a few new animations and a CRAZY hit stick block that laid me out! If I recall correctly, in previous versions you could only lay out non ball carriers with a hit stick on kick offs, now you can do it play by play. Pretty robust physics engine compared to previous Madden releases. This bleeds over into the run game of course, so hitting lanes feels satisfying and doesn't feel cheap (for defense or offense).
I chose to use one of the new passing options but found myself not utilizing it during the game, I subconsciously just played as normal (you can still throw the ball like classic Madden even if you pick one of the new options). I kept forgetting that I had another tool i should have been using. Cant provide any detailed feedback on this one, I may try it again later. As of now, I cant multi task this without getting sacked, just wasn't natural. Passing overall, you HAVE to be quick and precise with where you're going, and better be good checking down, or you aint moving, it was brutal in some instances but refreshing when I actually could complete a pass.
Presentation was decent. I really liked the presentation after scoring a touch down and the player highlights before the game look amazing. Its dark with some light blue, really brings out the player models. Nice eye candy before the start of a game and gives you a nice view of the player. Once again, player models look nice and solid, like they have some meat on their bones now.
Player camera cuts between plays are cool as well. A few new angles if I'm not mistaken along with camera transitions in between plays similar to 22.
I'll play a few more and drop extra details along with revisions to the information above. To note: I'm playing on All Madden with personalized sliders. QB acc for hum is 20, with 25 being set for CPU. Fatigue set at 67, etc, yea I have drastic slider adjustments across the board. I plugged in my Madden 21 set actually.
Overall, as long as they don't nerf too much of it because we know some tears are on the way from you know who, this will be a gem. :nchuck:

Default all pro.. about all I can say. Passing still is easy, was surprised to hear people saying they couldn’t pass.
I tweaked some sliders on pass reaction and coverage and I am seeing ALOT better results so far, so hopefully can get a good slider set to help alleviate some of the difficulty.
Overall, this is the best running the game has ever had and I played a ton of M21 and M22. I think this might be some of the most fluid and responsive running in any sports title. It’s that good. CPU running back is also running for purpose now, they have a goal and run for it, feels awesome.
I wish we could share small clips to highlight some of these positive things.. they deserve to be seen.
I was able to get my hands on a code and it just finished downloading. I'm going to come from a different perspective since I know that we have some people up here that enjoy Spectator Mode. The first thing I do whenever I get a new game is I watch a CPU v CPU game. I did check one thing though...and unless they change it for the final retail version...those of us who enjoy playing with the Broadcast Camera will be stuck with using the workaround for another year. I can confirm that it still works. I'm disappointed that they haven't made it more playable, but the workaround will do.
Like I said, I just fired the game up and I'm watching the Commanders play Buffalo at FedEx field and this game is stunning! When I look at it I say to myself, this is why I paid half a grand for the Series X....just beautiful. I love the new player models...the uniforms look great and even more real. The arm sleeves don't look painted in like they used to. The players move more fluid and natural. Gonna enjoy this for a bit and report back.
    ETA
I also wanted to check as far as the free form passing goes. When you set the free form recticle distance to infinite under skilled based passing you can Chuck that bad boy wherever you want to on the field. If your QB has the ark strength and your WR had wheels he can go get it. I think I'm looking most forward to using this with fades.

AM sim the passing isn’t that easy but not super hard neither. I love that you can place the ball in spots where the defender can’t get to it.
The movement in this game is definitely top notch it’s hard going back to 22.

Can anyone recommend a way to try to get a code on social media?

Just have to follow thr right people and get super lucky. For example one content guys just tweeted a few minutes ago and it already has 500 replies. I dont even bother with the ones where you hvae tot ry and enter the code before someone else does.
Anyone know if the Patriots end zone seating area has fans again? I believe in M20 they were removed for some reason. Looks empty.
    Hoping that’s fixed.

Are FGs fixed in spectator mode, and do QBs play to game situation yet? As in rushing for 1 yard when trailing and needing the first etc.; or is it more of the same?
I'm excited to play the cpu to get my own feel of difficulty but want to know the AI is updated or if the smarter AI push was for more scripted outcomes.

You mean as far as them taking super long fg attempts? It appears they still do that.
Man, with the new physics system, watching 5 to 6 guys trying to take down Derrick Henry is a thing of beauty. He is a virtual hoss!!

Pretty amazing that we are still seeing quite a few Madden fans that still haven't seen these NG games surpass the gameplay of older versions from 10-15 years ago.
I usually skim through these threads every year when the new game comes out and just like clock work the new game will be praised as the best ever only to find out 2-3 months after release it just simply wasn't true LOL
I appreciate your honest feedback and even without playing the beta some of the things you mentioned about the CPU AI QB and it's play calling are very believable because past Madden's proved it to be.
I guess I should be upset at this point to hear about those issues still being in the game but at this point I've just grown used to it by EA.
Just seems like we never get authentic/dynamic QB play by the CPU. They will each react and think the same until there's some kind of Rating or tendency that goes above and beyond just the Awareness rating they assign guys.
Maybe adding something like Improvise ability or Pre Snap read ability into the Tendency Category might be helpful. But what ever they (EA) are doing simply isn't working because it's just copy and paste over and over again year after year.
In fact the last time I recall a QB even doing audibles was Peyton Manning back in like Madden 12 or 13 I believe. He would point out defenders and change plays multiple times.
Seems like EA should have the ability to bring in 6-8 of the top QB's in the league and find away to replicate their tendencies into the game with these high powered systems.
Instead, we just accept it year after year because quite frankly we all love Madden and have no other options to play.
I'll still get the game knowing that QB play will mostly remain the same as it was for the past 5-10 years. Just wish EA would figure this thing out one year and we can finally put this brain dead QB logic crap to rest.
Thanks again for sharing your findings :waytogo:
    A finding from Simftballcritic:
    His review drops at 5pm.
Wait, did I just see Palms play correctly against trips? Backside CB plays man on solo check, trips side slot CB takes #2 on out route, Dime Backer carries #3 to the safety down the MOF, backside safety(free defender) helps FS pickup #3. Hmmmm.... #Madden23 beta.

Weather looks the same, I don't understand the issue though?
I haven't seen many penalties at all or injuries but like I've said before, this appears to be a very early beta build. There are many lighting, animation and other bugs/glitches.
On AM defaults, the CPU QB play seems good to me. Instead of the throw the ball out of bounds during pressure, they attempt to make more plays and many of those are in areas where it falls short or accuracy is off and looks natural to me.

I've started messing around with the Skill Based Passing. I'm doing Okay The Moment All Offense and my settings are:
Passing Type: Power Lead & Accuracy
    Passing Slowdown: None
    Free-Form Max Distance: Infinite
    Free-Form Recticle Speed: 7/20
    Recticle/Meter Visibility: Visible
My passing percentage was 36% on Pro level lol. But, a lot of that was due to first adjusting to multitasking with a small timing window and experimenting in different type passes. I'm gonna say this with confidence, for the person who will be willing to learn how to use these mechanics, they are going to love it... especially on fade patterns. I hit a couple that were beautiful.
Timing is everything, as well as knowing when and when not to use free-form. I like the fact that you can adjust the free-form recticke speed because its real sensitive in my opinion. It'll have you aiming out of bounds if you move the LS too much. Gonna continue to mess around with it. It'll be hard to go back to classic once mastered.

Is this a 100% skill based mechanic? Do ratings factor in at all?

I would think this would be for the competitive crowd and there may be a more rewarding experience being a user mechanic but since it is a user mechanic involved it becomes less "sim' even if ratings are taken into some account.

Anyone else having issues connecting to EA servers. I haven’t been able to get the beta going since last night.

Playing it right now. I had an issue connecting after my last game. But, I quit and then restarted the game and I was good to go. Been playing all morning.

I hope you guys gave feedback impressions to EA about AI QB play i made a thread about it but it got lock 🔒 due to misunderstanding or perhaps just hating
But anyways Madden goes no where without Good AI QB play

This is a big reason I play 16 more than any other because since we've had bad to barely acceptable versions of qb AI whether it be constant checkdowns, taking sacks or not scrambling.

Damn i hope you having alot fun playing it alot. how is it so far ? ai cpu play smarter on offense and defense espeically zone man coverage, man to man coverage ??

Yeah I had to unplug my Xbox for about 30 seconds and restart it for it to work last night.
    Couple of observations:
    1) Regarding QB play...I've watched a few games now and it seems like QB play varies. For example, in a game between the Commanders-Bills, Wentz got hit early and became figity in the pocket. He took a couple of shots down field and got picked. After that he started throwing short the majority of the time. Josh Allen on the other hand mixed it up. I'm currently watching the Jags-Panthers and Trevor Lawrence has taken multiple shots down field in the 1st quarter. So, I'm hoping that it varies according to the strengths/weaknesses/ratings of the QB
    2) Non-XFactor running backs need their BCV tuned. I've seen multiple times where a running back could have gotten bigger gains had they cut it more inside or outside and instead they kept going straight. However, this was not the case with XFactor backs Derrick Henry and Christian McCaffrey. If EA doesn't adjust this before the game comes out, I will myself.
Had a chance to play a few games. Played against the cpu on All Pro.
Tackling- Tackling is improved but I feel like it's over hyped. The new pile on tackles don't trigger very often and when they do many times it's just a defender putting his shoulder down instead of wrapping up. At times they look good. But imo it doesn't happen often enough, feels tacked on.
Pass blocking/rushing- another over hyped feature. It is improved, the pass rush is stronger but too often pass rushers come in freely unengaged resulting in insta sacks. Still too many dice role super wins/loss scenarios. They need to figure out how to create pressure while pass rushers are still engaged with blockers more consistently. Imo the pass rush is just right, I hope they don't tone it down, offensive lineman ratings matter!
Passing - The normal skill based passing doesn't seem much different than the typical lead passing that's been in the game forever.
But Free Form Passing is a game changer, you can basically throw the ball where you want too, you can throw receiver's open & where only they can get it. Im still learning the passing, I hope the full game has a tutorial.
Running- rushing feels good. 360 Cuts is legit, I made some nasty cut backs using it. But it should only be used in some scenarios, not all the time. The button smash to break out of tackles is legit too, I like that it doesn't lock you into a canned animation, it's implemented better than when it was in the game years ago.
Pass Defense - pass defense is good for the most part, still some DB movement wonkyness at times in man to man when the receiver reaches the top of their route. For example, one time Travon Diggs was in his back peddle, the receiver does a out route, instead of jumping the out route (Diggs still in back peddle looking at the QB) he does a 360 turn for some reason allowing the receiver to be open for the catch. I did notice that a lot of the ratings were off. Diggs only rated like a 72.
Also, the DB one hand ball knock down animation triggers too much. Even in situations where it should be a pick attempt.
Presentation- pretty much the same as 22, some slight additions. Still those immersion breaking wipes for timeouts, 2min warning, end of quarter. I'd like to see those wipes replaced with coaches or refs signaling timeouts, etc, keeping you on the field.
Still no or very little subtle teammate celebrations like high fives, hand shakes, and pats on the back or butt.
Graphics- the smaller shoulder pads is the biggest difference so far imo but I like it.
So far I'm having fun with Madden 23 but it's not anything spectacular, it's still Madden. An updated version of Madden 22.

I think what schnaidt was referring to is that QB play in general still hasn't evolved enough over the years in several aspects of gameplay regardless of the console era.
A few of things he mentioned was audibles, pre-snap movement and QB logic in general.
Based on past versions not the Beta for 23 (I haven't played it) seems like QB's have been lifeless for many years in Madden if that makes any sense. Sure they'll do something occasionally like as you described but of the 32 starting QB's without even getting into the backups about 90% of them move and react exactly the same on the field.
There's is no QB mannerism on the field.
The Traits are generic and the throwing motions for the most part are generic. They need to motion capture these guys or add more signature style play like you see in NBA 2K to make it look and feel at least like half the starting QB's in the game.
Haven't seen Dak change a play in Madden or simulate his movements pre-snap in Madden ever (as schnaidt mentioned again they just walk up to the LOS)
Do something with QB cadence for crying out loud isn't that apart the game.
Stop making 4 verticals their go to play and program these guys to read defenses for once. I know it'll never replicate human controlled QB play but there's enough technology on the consoles to take the AI to another level.
Maybe it's just me but I think those things should be worked on by EA just as much as they work on defensive coverages each year when fans of the series point it out.

It would definitely go a long way in making the game more authentic for sure.
Played first game. 7 minute quarters All Pro. Played as the Bucs vs Raiders(cpu)
    Stats
Brady 17/22 317 yards 4TDs and 1 int. (Stupid throw at end of the half. Got hit as I threw it and it went short for a pick 6).
Carr 18/24. 177yards 0TD 2 int. Kind of just passed to check downs or slants across the middle. Only took 1 real deep shot
    Fournette 20/ 108yards 1 TD
Jacobs 6 / 85 yards. Had one long run after a broke tackle
    Drake 2 / 15 yards
    Quick thoughts.
CPU pass rush gets their quick at times especially if it’s a standard pass. Vs play action you seem to have way more time
Seems like the CPU does break more tackles than years past
CPU QB looked for shorter passes to often.
CPU still will call a timeout at the 1:01 mark.
Game feels more polished than 22 but I didn’t see a ton of difference. The plays I ran last year a lot still work except a couple straight drop back ones because of the pass rush
Presentation seems way better. When you score a TD the name banner looks good. Replays (only one game) looked legit. Didn’t see a random zoom in or an arm or just the football spinning. Most looked pretty realistic.
Didn’t try the new passing. Had it set to classic. Though it felt and looked (icons) like it was still on when o was playing. Maybe because I still try and locate the ball when passing like I did in the past few maddens.
Very small thing, but something that adds to the game is whenever there is an incompletion, where the ball is slightly overthrown or out of reach if the receiver, there is always an animation of the receiver making an attempt at catching the ball. This would go in the "Little Things" column but it's a nice added touch cosmetically.

Presentation is usually the last thing they add into the game, there were a lot of missing elements in the beta last year compared to the retail build, but it was mostly in the audio department to be fair. Stadium sounds and songs, chants etc aren’t usually in the beta.

Yes, I’ve had multiple penalties AM SIM

I would imagine that people are looking for like 8-15 per game total which would be representative of an average NFL game.
All Pro is legit a challenge, Jalen Hurts got 100% completion on me in 8mins quarters no acc clock. But for some reason I'm not mad, it all seemed legit nothing cheesy.
Just played the CPU again on all-pro. I was the Patriots and the CPU was the Bills.
Not seeing a huge struggle moving the ball Vs CPU on All-Pro. Still haven’t punted in 2 games. And trust me I am not phenomenal at madden by any means. Won21-7. Ran the ball fine. Passed it ok. Did have one pick but it was a dumb force.
    Some random observations.
Why on 3 and 1 if I come out in shotgun and 3 wide does the CPU assume I am going to pass. I run out of it for an easy first down almost every time. (Not even with an audible. Just pick a running play and run it).
Also 2 or 3 times my TE was wide open for a TD. I looked at their play call and it was just a cover four. No blitz. Watched the replay. All 4 back end players look as if the CPU chose run commit in the middle of the play as they all just sprinted toward the line of scrimmage. Simple read up the seam for 6.
Also looks like they finally fixed the bug after a TD. It has a real number for TOP instead of random super long number that didn’t even make sense.
The CPU QB top 3 targets was the RB, Slot Wr and TE. Diggs had 3 passes to him and one was in the flat. I felt like a few years ago the CPU took more shots and actually looked for star players. Seems like it’s back to check downs.
Tipped balls probably need to be adjusted down. Both offense and defense are catching tipped balls every chance they get.
I had a funny moment that would’ve caused rage from the competitive crowd.. 1 on 1 deep ball.. defender tipped the ball on a perfect play.. ball bounced off back of WR in air, WR spun around and caught it and ran for a touchdown lol.

madden has always been the darkest game for me, dome games and overcast games make everything is so dull.
i found a work-around for Xbox if your on that system for M22 at least. it works for me idk if it will work for you. maybe just my TV
*start madden go to main menu
*go to the xbox app on your phone and "remote play"
*after it connects successfully just kill the app on your phone
and it will disconnect. Everything will get brighter
    it works for me.

I’m playing on a LG OLED on a PS5, have to play either in domes or at 6:30 or 8:30 or the games are way too dark.
Small nit pick with new player models, they mostly look good/great but bigger guys models leave something to be desired. Guys like Vita and Suh look small
I played two games so far on all pro difficulty :
    Positive
Gameplay is damn smooth and feel realistic on offense and defense
Graphic is great especially players models look great
Ai cpu is smart on defense
    Negative:
    Cpu playcalling is kinda bad
    Some weird wrapping tackle animations
I played as Cowboys against Bills
Final score is Cowboys 10, Bills 35
    Dak Prescott : 15-37, 188 yards, 0 td and 4 ints
    Josh Allen : 19-35, 297 yards, 4 td and 2 ints
Damn, all pro difficulty is pretty legit challenging against cpu
Been playing on pro and imo it plays the best . All pro and all madden seem overpowered. I feel your getting the best experience on this level.
The new passing system will take time to get used too. But can be fun on fade routes.
Things that I feel separate this from last years version.
    1. Tackling is much better . New stumble animations when people dive at your feet and hang tackles are much improved .
    2. Scrambling Qb’s can’t just burst around the end . DE take the right angles to minimize gains.
    3. Player movement as far as WR route running and DB backpedaling are more natural looking.
    4. Kickoffs and the kickoff camera alter to give you a different angle on kickoffs and the once the ball is received it reverts back to the standard camera angle. The lanes and blocking are more on par to real kickoffs than last year.
    5. Catching animations are improved and field awareness near the sideline is improved where players will catch and plant their foot to get up field rather than going out of bounds.
    6. Defensive line is very effective on user and cpu. On pro I’m finding that I have to make quick reads. Def does not feel like the pro level on M22.
    7. Pass coverage is much much better . Cpu is much smarter playing flats and routes over the middle.
    8. Running animations are more realistic. This also due to the new player models .
    9. Player models are by far the best . I’m going to say that most players are spot on . Some need to be tweaked, but they might be the best player models of any sport game .
    10. Arm sleeves look real and not painted on . Jerseys are loose near the waste almost looking untucked. Towels have 6 placements that add an authentic look to some of your favorite players .
Thigh and knee pads are smaller and on par to what you see on Sunday. Shoulder pads are finally the right size . Some players need to be tweaked ( prob via sliders) but for once they are true to real life. Many players have either updated or had their faces implemented
    11. Presentation from pregame ,cutscenes and touchdown overlays are better than last year and add a refreshing level you’d expect from year
Playing this beta compared to last years has a much greater level of change that is much more polished.
Add me to the list of people who've been frustrated by the lack of brightness in HDR the past few years. One of the main reasons I tried the beta was to see if they finally addressed this. I own a Samsung S95B which is the brightest OLED there is and the game still has this dark tint like I'm wearing sunglasses when I play at the 1pm and 4pm start times. The issue is even worse on my LG CX OLED. The developers need to either fix HDR or give us the option to turn it off...
I love how the running backs attempt to fight through tackles, they don't go down easy like in years past. I love the tap button to break tackle mechanic, it's to the point I just start tapping A on every tackle attempt.
The Cowboys right tackle sucks, gave up 8 sacks, had to replace him with the rookie, much better results.
The major problem I see with pass rush is too many insta wins at the line resulting in pass rushers running freely at the Qbs. Only super stars like Aaron Donald should be able to do that. Pressure needs to be applied via the pocket collapsing, with pass rushers still engaged with pass blockers, this gives the QB time to improvise under pressure.
Over all very good playing game.
    Update:
I went back and looked at the known issues list, it appears they are aware of the insta win issue at the line.
"Pass Rush Non-Engaged Super Win animations are triggering too frequently on All Pro and All Madden."
They are also aware of an issue where the underneath zone defenders break too fast on intermediate and deep routes.
If they can fix these two issues before launch the pass defense won't feel so OP.

I'm on a QD-OLED and it's only dark when it is on that stupid dark side of the field for me.
But we will never get it but a HDR slider will do wonders for the game smh.
They are actually killing out a beautiful game

    OS is the Best👍🏆
It's a shame we cannot share pics/clips. I saw one of the best catches I've seen in a Madden game showing off the head tracking and the fact that DB/WR animations are separate and not canned. I'll just say, if you don't play the ball correctly, you will get burned this year.
For anyone struggling with darkness/dullness have you tried messing with the contrast and brightness settings in the game’s options? Every year since they added those settings I’ve always gone in and changed those because the game looks bad on the default settings. I don’t have the beta yet but was curious to see if this helps. Makes the game look much better.
Just finished my 3rd game on all pro. Still seeing the cpu just give up bombs to my wr or te up the seam. It’s not like he just out runs them. It’s like everyone just comes toward the line of scrimmage. I look at the cpu play call and it’s nothing aggressive cover 2 , cover 4. Play art shows deep zone coverage. But in the game there is no one in the backend of the defense.

A piece of feedback I want to give. This issue was in Madden 22. Running QBs slide too early/easy when running. Just now, at about the 10 yard line cpu Kyler Murray sprints to the outside, he's one on one with a CB, at about the 5 yard, instead of juking or running through the defender for the TD, he slides. Running Qbs do not slide all the time at sight of one defender especially on the outside against a DB. I hope they fix this issue.

It’s because if you even breathe on QBs in this game they’ll fumble the ball
Running with QBs who frequently truck (Josh Allen) or evade (Lamar Jackson) in the open you just end up sliding before a defender comes near you because QBs fumbling is so prevalent

Nah. He’s not giving credit to anyone but himself and he’s overstating his own importance.
There is a slew of factors more important to what has shaped Madden 23’s development than a single grumpy YouTube vlogger.
Played another game as the Patriots vs the CPU Chiefs.
1st and goal the chiefs run shovel pass to JuJu which I stopped. then on 2nd down they ran a similar shuffle pass type play to Kelce. Very similar to what they run in those situations in real life.
but the CPU is still awful with situational awareness. I will never understand the CPU taking their last time out to kick a FG with under 30 seconds to go in a half. Why not call the time out with 3 or 4 seconds left vs 25.
In this game the DB didnt come flying in when I went 5 wide. Maybe because I was down most of the game. Was down 10-0 at half. 90 yard fumble return for TD and then a fg.
2nd half was solid action. Momentum meter was against me, and Mac Jones was rattled and missed wide open Wrs. but settled down thanks to the running game. Came back and won 21-17.

Yes...Saw this same thing with the Chiefs and Mahomes. Down 4 with under a minute to go. 4th and 13. He scrambles and slides a yard short of the first down marker. Turnover, Game Over.
Imagine if Madden unveiled a create a team feature before launch, I feel that would really move the needle on top of the seemingly positive beta impressions I have read.
I really want this game to be good.

That was one of the most frustrating threads I've ever been apart of. Being told that what I was seeing on my tv was not actually what i was seeing on my tv by people on the internet that couldn't see my tv lol

Have you been able to create your Avatar yet? When I try it says some of the services not available and sends me back to the screen. Also showing The League and The Yard as locked.

I’ve created my avatar but when I choose a position it says “access restricted”
Do you have any luck playing?

Saw something again I don't think I have ever seen in a Madden game last night. I realized all this happened after the play was over and went back to watch what the defense did in replay to dissect it. I was on offense playing against the CPU, a WR ran a post route from the left side of the field, the MLB carried him until he entered the zone area for the deep safety, at about this time I have scrambled right and noticed my TE has settled down in the middle of the field, before I throw to him the MLB has turned back to look at his initial coverage area and sees the TE sitting open, he sprints full blast back toward the TE before I throw it, he arrives and makes the tackle just as my pass is caught by the TE. It was just AI, but it looked like that MLB was thinking about his coverage responsibility and was aware after passing off the WR to the safety he needed to get back to his zone, and he hauled *** to get there. Hard to explain, but seeing CPU defenders move and react with purpose is shocking. Another example of something you aren't going to see in a sizzle trailer, but makes a big difference when you are used to CPU defenders drifting and trying to cover acres of grass and nothing else. Zone defense is working now, coupled with the removal of pre-determined 2 man animations in pass defense it's refreshing to say the least.
Also, the head tracking by all players is vastly improved, I took a kickoff back for a TD up the middle of the field and when I cleared the last defender the ball carrier quickly looked over both shoulders, it looked like he was checking to make sure nobody was close to him like happens sometimes when a ball carrier breaks into the wide open in real life. Also had a deep throw to Diggs down the sideline, the safety switched between tracking the ball and looking at Diggs as he got closer, he jumped at the last second and knocked the pass away just before it reached Diggs and the CB. Looked good enough that I took a video of it off my TV, wish I could post it.

What I always noticed was the game would boot up, you’d get to the cover screen and it would sorta recalibrate and the game would dim itself. This was only with HDR on.
There are a few things that haven’t been mentioned yet, but one I’m really noticing is players aren’t morphing through each other like they have in the past. I had a play just now where Adam Thielen jumped up for the ball, Byron Murphy went up for a pass deflection, Thielen’s leg came down on top of Murphy’s, Murphy’s leg went between Thielen’s legs and not once did their bodies morph throughout the animation. I wish I could show a video of it, but it was a situation where in the past in Madden and a lot of sports games, morphing would have happened.

Same thing for me. I was able to create my avatar but restricted as well.

Same thing, I have a video recorded of a streak down the Sideline by the Cardinals Marquise Brown. The Chargers Safety Derwin James starts bailing to cover him. As Brown is running down the Sideline he is looking at James. James is looking at him. Brown then turns his head to track the ball. James follows suit to track the ball both go up in the air in separate animations and Brown makes a heck of a catch to score. I have it too to marvel at.

Yes! This drives me nuts every time during boot up. Please keep the brightness up. It’s like it purposefully dims the game.

Anyone else absolutely hate the new scoreboard? It’s way too big and has a “ Madden Mobile” feel to it in my opinion.
Why can’t EA just make one similar to madden 17 and let the player choose between a more broadcast like scoreboard or a big playful scoreboard?
    Just my 2 cents.

If you hate or even just dislike Madden, this isn't going to be a game that converts you, it's for people who like the way the game plays generally.
It feels and animates like Madden, but if someone plays it and says that it hasn't changed A LOT then they're just lying.
Playing a couple games on default AM: Super wins by Edge defenders are OP on AM, but if they left it the same and forced us to turn passing blocking us a little that would be okay.
It was me as the Giants against the Lions in both games, in the first game Goff was off on like 7 passes due to the pressure, I've never seen that on default AM ever.
Freeform passing is going to be tough to master on AM with the pressure the way it is, we'll see how it goes when Practice mode is available. Skill based passing without using Freeform seems pretty solid.
The way defenders succeed or fail on passing plays makes sense, you don't have that typical "What is he doing?" feeling all the time.
Broken tackles especially via stiff arm is a bit janky, I also agree with the criticism about some of the collision sounds being too over the top.
I'd like to see CPU QBs release the ball sooner on some plays when they are throwing the deep ball. The deep ball has to be the first read not the third.
In the second game the CPU had a 102 yard KO return for a TD against me, the blocking was sheer perfection.
That was even more shocking that the CPU QBs making inaccurate throws on AM.
I really hope they can figure the lighting out, that’s my only irk so far actually throughly enjoying someone of the gameplay even the new passing system has great potential.
How do I get access to other modes other than h2h and play now?
