Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 Next-Gen Trailer

EA combined their Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 next-gen trailers for the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, during the EA Play Live 2020 event.

Make sure to check it out and post your thoughts.

Fans can upgrade Madden NFL 21 on Xbox One to Xbox Series X or PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 for free, until Madden NFL 22 launches.

Through partnerships with Sony and Microsoft, EA SPORTS will offer Dual Entitlement, creating ways for players who purchase either an Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 to upgrade their copy of Madden NFL 21 from prior generation Xbox One or PlayStation 4 platforms at no additional cost. This offer will be in place all the way through the Madden NFL 21 season, up to the release of Madden NFL 22, so players can upgrade whenever they first purchase their new console within that period. Offer exceptions apply. Physical discs cannot currently be used to upgrade to discless consoles. Visit ea.com/nextlevel for more information and tune into EA Play Live on June 18 at 4:00 PM PT for more news on the next generation.

  1. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times put me in a mental asylum!!! I guarantee you Madden 21 won’t look anything like that. If it does, I’ll admit I’m wrong and eat crow. Why do these companies still try to sell us on cinematic trailers? Ubisoft has ruined that for everyone.
This does nothing for me, personally.
I knew coming in the game is gonna look fantastic on the new consoles - that was a given - but there is honestly nothing of substance here which makes me want to make the jump to next-gen immediately.
Saw this tweet from Pasta Padre....
Among enhancements provided by the new consoles:
    -Blazing fast load times
    -Spatialized audio
    -Immersive controller haptics
-Contextual player, bench, and fan reactions
    -Reimagined player bodies
    -Exquisite weather detail
    -Stats-driven player movement

Sounds good but we have to wait and see
Gives me Madden 25 @E3 vibes (living worlds, war in the trenches, true step, a billion calculations a second, lol). I'm not getting excited until I see real game-play in action!
Watched it live then watched the trailer over, at least hoping for a 4K one but nope.
At any rate, it definitely reminded me of those old 2 trailers, the one with Strahan and the one with RG3, to the point I had a mini text rant to one of my dudes about it. Tbh, the RG3 trailer actually looked better than this crap.
Even Fifa 21 looked like ****. The close up of the one player was a head scratcher because it look3d current gen as hell.
I think they went heavy with the HDR, as well. Looked darker than it should have. The stills on their site look better, especially of Brady from the back (pause).
This was a huge let down, once again. That's twice in 2 days, EA. The PC thing to say is I'll wait to get some more gameplay footage and some hands on prior to a POTENTIAL purchase but I'm just burnt out on Madden just not living up to what I expect..
Last yr I nearly skipped it after being underwhelmed with what I they presented but word of mouth from the beta then hands on with early access changed my mind...yet I've barely played the 20 after purchase. This has been a trend for about the last decade or so. I'm tired.

Thing is though, even what I saw in the trailer didn't look all that impressive. We knew the graphics would be improved, but that brief glimpse of Lamar sprinting looked as stiff as current gen. We didn't see any transitions between animations, which is a big reason why Madden hasn't looked all that good in motion. Finally as someone else said, Brady's undershirt looks 100% painted on still.
For a next gen trailer, let me see a bubble screen executed lol

The Madden art team has never been the issue. Madden always looks amazing in screen shots. As soon as it starts moving is when the disaster strikes. Nothing looked good to me in that trailer, but then again, it's the same story, different year. Everything always sounds good. There will be visible sweat now, but no refs on the field, no realistic injury system, players warp into place, procedural awareness sucks, shifting and jerky player movement, bad AI, etc. Once again, they love to make a wedding cake made out of frosting only.
That's how they do it over there.
After playing football games for 35+ years I gave it up 2 years ago. I bought every madden along with every other football game from 1989 until 2000. Skipped Madden from 2000 to 2010, came back for an online league from 10 to 18 and then quit and have had zero interest in madden. It's been horrible. I'd gladly come back if they'd earn my business, but they do nothing of the sort. As soon as they can give me at least everything I had 3 consoles ago, then I'd consider it, but they can't even do that right. This will probably be no different. A bunch of fantastic marketing spins and then tell us that they "overshot". Just like Clint said about Living Worlds and the 50 calculations per second bull****.
Anyone who believes any of this crap without actually seeing it or playing it is a salesman's dream client.

Kind of figured this with the Mahomes promo earlier saying "It's not about what you can see but what you can feel".
The spalialized audio sounds nice to immerse you in the game even more, however all of this means nothing if the gameplay doesn't show improvement

The Strahan/Mcnabb trailer all over again

Thought the same thing amigo. I was like...LIVING WORLDS...oh wait...I swear, if I ever run for any office I need to hire EA marketing to run my campaign so I can do a bang up job of blowing smoke and winning the election. Lol
The only thing i got from the empty hype trailer is that ea still cant animate human athletic motion very well....they cant even make the players stand or walk like normal humans.
Looks very similar to how the graphics on my PC look already honestly in the still 4K shots. Still looking forward to next gen consoles though & probably be a late next yr buy after all the hype is over.

Wait for the Nvidia 3000 series GPUs. They're going to last you this entire upcoming generation. They'll be a nice upgrade over the 2080ti, and they'll demolish the next gen consoles.

Agreed man, I think it looks better than PS4 but I still saw a lot of the bended knee walking. Like I said, if I’m wrong about my judgment I’ll gladly admit I was wrong but this whole trailer reminded me of the living worlds fiasco.

My best guess is that it has to do with NFL Next-Gen Stats.
For the past few years the NFL has added microchips in players' shoulder pads to track player movement of each of the 22 players on the field, which had allowed for the creation of all those interesting new graphics and stats you see NFL Next-Gen Stats and Pro Football Focus tweet out sometimes.
It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say the NFL and EA reached an agreement for the the league to provide Tiburon with this data, with which they could improve their game, be it with player ratings, play calling data, player usage data for depth charts, and whatnot.
I'm a big fan of the recent analytics push in how we as fans consume football so, assuming I'm close on my guess, this on its face would be promising. That said, I also want more details about exactly how Tiburon might be using this data before I get too excited about it.

Someone explains how will a patch make a game look totally different because it’s on *XSX or PS5.

Wont be a patch, its a different game.
“Stat-based” moment is going to end up be the gimmicky name for attribute based movement.
Going to put a premium on Acceleration and Agility ratings over speed. Christian McCaffery will feel different than Derrick Henry.
Attributes like juke, spin, and truck are going to have animation tiers. So 60-70 rated have “weaker” animations than 80-90.

I will say this, The RG3 or the 06 madden trailer wasn’t not done in game engine, it was merely a cinematic vision. At least they say this is running in the game engine. Now I don’t believe it will look that good but there’s at least hope this time around

Rating thresholds unlocking better animations has been in the game since M18.
The entire time I was watching this my only thought was this - EA wants us to buy current gen sports games, they're not going to show anything now that might tempt us to sit out those releases and wait on next gen. They'll get us hyped about next gen when the current gen games and majority of sales are in the bag.
Because honestly I didn't see much there to get me excited.

Actually the RG3 one said "ACTUAL GAME FOOTAGE" . It does say "work in progress" though. I dont even think the replays are like that in Madden 20, nor less the actual game footage

EA is the only sports game company that puts out CGI trailers. It's embarrassing. When has 2k released anything that didn't look like the actual game? The answer is never.

WWE2k20 comes to mind pretty damn
    quick.
Agh idk I’m torn. All of those scenes look fairly reachable graphics wise. The player models looked almost similar to what we have now, just insane lighting effects
Whole lotta nothing here, imo. Seen these types of trailers before (i.e., McNabb), and we know how they panned out.
What's striking is how little of the games they actually showed. There was a shocking amount of time showing heartbeats and pictures of Poseidon (I think). What the heck?
Anyway, I wouldn't say this did much to allay the concerns raised by the initial reveal.
I'll still hold out hope I'm wrong on the Debbie Downer front and that we get a stellar franchise and HUM vs. CPU gameplay improvements reveal, but just a sliver.
The crazy thing is i wouldn't have even been disappointed that much with what they showed if they didn't go hey let's show you more of a game that's not coming out anytime soon and go into greater detail with showing the technical and graphical leaps they showed with in guessing is battlefield 6. I thought Madden must not be the jump in difference from current gen. I didn't expect much from ea and they showed even less than I expected especially when I realized they saved fifa and madden last

Don’t forget the silhouette of a guy with a glowing golden grill and glowing golden necklace. It’s like EA thought “let’s make a trailer that looks like what a 12 year old on an acid trip would come up with”. Idk man, idk I think I’m just too old at this point

I don't think that's very surprising, the next gen release is probably a full 5 months away still while current gen Madden is 9 weeks away.
I didn't see anything to get excited about. Also, it always seems that ea puts as little gameplay as possible, and hypes their trailers with useless fluff. What's the point of buying a new system, with better(not breathtaking) graphics, if there's no news on whether several of the series' flaws remain the same?
I'm talking legacy issues from the current gen maddens for years like the HORRIBLE challenge system which is not only wrong, but has scripted sequences where the game challenges for me instead of allowing me to challenge myself. And when I do challenge myself, it's a 100% failure rate since the game's code doesn't match the replays and what I see going on in the field. It drives me nuts, but of course you can't sell a trailer on 'challenge system that now works correctly'.
A lot of the things that need to be fixed with madden are the most important, but aren't the 'sexy' things that you can slap on the back of a box of the game case. I don't want madden 19/20 with slightly better graphics and lighting, and definitely not for $600.
That vid was a Joke, tells us nothing about the game.....and unfortunately when we finally see what we are getting I’m sure I’ll be disappointed. Again it’s all about the flash and bling...no substance in gameplay and I guess the majority who play Madden don’t care...

I really want to know what innovation EA presented to the NFL that convinced them to renew the licence. It definitely isn't there in the current gen feature set and the next gen features are basically the same promises from the start of the Xbox One generation.
I get that the first version in a new generation is generally lacking in areas, but they really need to prove why they deserve that licence.

The NFL was the only one they needed to prove to that they deserve the license, and they did that.
As far as innovations go, I wouldn't put too much stock into a press release.
Its very likely that this innovation EA presented was preceded by a dollar sign. Might be all it boils down to
Outside of Gameplay and Franchise, One of the main things Madden has been lacking on is definitely Immersion, especially when compared to other sports games. Every game feels the same, going from exhibition to Super Bowl. Only difference is game-specific commentary lines and occasional graphic overlays. Immersion is a key factor for sports game. While the other sports games aren't perfect in that area, they do a good job of creating that atmosphere and sounds that immerse you into the venue. It starts from sidelines, crowd, sights and sounds, situational awareness, and commentary. In most of those aspects, Madden has lacked. While there isn't as much dead air between plays like it use to, still not enough to keep you entertained. Crowd has little awareness of what is going on during plays and most of the reactions are based on game-specific actions. There's so much more I can go on about the lack of immersion. It's funny too, since NCAA did a way better job of immersing you into the games. They were able to create that college atmosphere, sights and sounds, college traditions, bands, studio updates. The one thing I didn't like about NCAA 14 in that area, was the segments were abruptly cut short so you didn't see full pre/half/post game segments.
So, I am all for overhauled immersion. BUT, we have been given this song and dance before. So, there will definitely skepticism from many. Madden does a great job of overhyping features and feeling like you have been through a bait-and-switch. But, to be positive, with the power of Next Gen CPUs and 3d Audio/Dolby Atmos, the things they are promising are achievable. Its all about them delivering on those promises.

I 100% agree with the lack of immersion, especially in franchise mode. For example, the stat banners they use throughout the season. They come and go so randomly and quickly. Like I happened to see one that had a stats for when my WR was healthy and when he was injured. It was well done. But it came and went so quickly. But for every good one there are so many that I shake my head at. Like it will say (usually about the losing team) Team defense Rank 5. Today 450 yards. What the heck does that do for me. Are those yards given up more or less than what they normally give up. and if so what are those numbers.
Another thing that has to go is the Year Before Real Life Commentary. In theory it would be great if they stopped using it after a week or two (but really why even record it then). In week 17, week 17 they are still talking about Ryan Fitzpatrick coming over to the Dolphins (it would be a great comments week one, maybe two). Or when I am playing as the PAtriots with Stidham as my QB (Brady is on the Bucs) and he completes a pass to Edelman they talk as if Brady is the one who just threw him the pass. Or in week 12 and they describe a RB who led the league in rushing the year before (Who cares what he did last year at this point)
Also, the highlight package that they show after a few drives are also so poorly done. They brought up Sony Michel who was hurt 3 drives ago and has been replaced. They talk like he is still in the game. Or I could throw for 300 1st half yards but get sacked 3 times and the highlight package is about how my team needs to keep me upright.
I also wish most stat banners or things that come up a person needs to hold A to skip. I probably miss so much stuff, because I hit A to get through a replay.
On a side note, why are the still shots at the end of the game just so random and bad. For example a zoomed in shot of a back or a leg. Just so random
Also, for the record immersion isnt just giving me the same prerecorded Authentic team entrance either. Give me a player breakdown or matchup between QBs, CB and WR. DL vs OL...Something. If pregame is jsut the Flacons coming out every game with Fireworks and it cuts to a gerneic warmup shot and then kick off. That is not Immersion.

I just got done with the AFC Champiosnhip Game. and youre right. Literally the same exact end game cut scenes as a regualr season game. No Lamar Hunt presentation, no celebreation. Nothing. Even the Halftime show was a joke. It said they were going to talk about the SuperBowl Matchup or something like that...And all it said was the Saints will be facing the Bucs later on today (as thye showed my highlights). Not going to lie this us the first time I have gotten this deep into a season in a bit. But it was pretty disappointing. No spoilers please, but I am guessing the SuperBowl Presentation will be the same as it was the past few years.
With Gameplay stream slated to be discussed this up coming Thursday, I do wonder how they will approach information rollout with regards to Current and Next Gen. I'm not sure if they'll focus on current gen first, then after release then focus on next gen. Or just do a mixture of both at the same time. I just want them to be clear and concise upfront. Let us know if it is for current gen or next gen. Me personally, I rather just hear about next gen. Outside of new Abilities, AI, and Face of Franchise, I know what to expect from current gen. I doubt they probably did anything for current gen Franchise. I'm more concerned about next gen news as it sets tone for next several years.

Best case scenario is that we only get improvements to currnet gen (Control Stick 2.0, More X Factors, DLine Moves, User Celebrations) because they were focused on next gen stuff.
I would also much rather next gen reveals on gameplay, but I think they will focus most of the upcoming chat on current gen, so they dont deter people from waiting until next gen to buy Madden. (However, with a free upgrade, does it really matter when they buy Madden)

I would also much rather next gen reveals on gameplay, but I think they will focus most of the upcoming chat on current gen, so they dont deter people from waiting until next gen to buy Madden. (However, with a free upgrade, does it really matter when they buy Madden)

Yeah I don't really see the point in waiting even if you are worried people deciding to wait until next gen. With Free Upgrades, whoever is getting it day one/early, will essentially have next gen version when available. It would only really hurt it if there weren't free upgrades. I think it might actually help it. Even if you are not sold on current gen, if you enjoy what you see on Next Gen, why not just buy it when it goes on sale for current gen to get your football fix, and just upgrade when you get next gen. I haven't bought Madden in a very long time, but in some VERY small chance that Franchise finally gets love Next Gen and gameplay looks improved, I would be tempted to wait until Black Friday sales to get Madden 21 for 50% off for current gen(even though I sold my consoles) just so I am essentially just paying around $30 for a next gen game.
But, yeah I hope thats the case. Because besides those gameplay additions and Face of Franchise, that wouldn't a purchase if this wasn't a next gen launch year. It would make sense that they just made some gameplay fixes and a little depth to a career mode for current gen, if they were focused on next gen primarily. You can go back to previous years and the same stuff they are promoting for current gen this year, they have promoted in some way in previous games. So it doesn't seem like much for a jump from Madden 20 to 21. It seems like a situation where you can actually say Madden 20.5. So hopefully they built for next gen consoles. I just hope it isn't just a port like it was current gen. I get that the memories of the 7th gen transition is still scarred in their minds, but this is a case where they do need to build for the next gen. If we start up Franchise and its the same UI with the same lockerroom sequences, that'll be beyond disappointing.
I do want to have hope that it isn't just a port. I can see Face of Franchise and MUT being ported over because I doubt they are doing 2 separate stories and dual entitlement says MUT stuff transfers over. But I hope gameplay, Franchise and any new modes doesn't just port over. Especially gameplay. Imagine if the visuals actually do look similar to the trailer, if we had the same gameplay from the current gen trailer, it makes it even worse if current gen gameplay meshes with next gen visuals.
